I am talking about intense romantic films, not films like Humpty Sharma. Enough with these slapsticks. 😡

Yes i do, i feel 90s films had the most intense romantic films. Like Maine Pyaar kiya, Deewana, Daar, Jeet, Betaab, Saajan, Hum app ke hai kaun, Ashiqui, QSQT, DDLJ, KKTH, HDDCS and many more. In todays age i have yet to see that same intensity in films.

No. We've had enough of them in 90s and 2000s. Better to have change, refreshing concepts. Even if there is romance it better be different than candyfloss of 90s.

It was nice but very sweet 'fluff' in the 90s...high-school, college, and then romance and wedding...that's it.
(With perhaps a few minor departures from the norm...)

The past decade or so, it has been more of what happens after college...challenges in work-life, etc...and finding love along the way...not just the pursuit of the girl or boy, but the pursuit of 'finding oneself'.
(With perhaps a few minor departures from the norm...)

Likely, the next trend will be after wedding...the married life, the actual ins-and-outs, the kids, the parental pressures, the society gossips, etc.

The cycle of life...
Though knowing Bollywood, it will likely come back to recycle the 90s, albeit in caricature form, like the Musala movies of 80s are being recycled now with Salman Khan, etc. with Rujnikaant-style special effects.🤢

I think the nineties had a good run with good romantic movies with good soundtracks. It was the fairytale era. The tales were sappy and unrealistic, but managed to captivate hearts.

Bollywood has evolved. Real life romance is not a fairytale. The fairytale formula has been discarded for reality either as humor or grittiness. Sometimes the results are good explorations of human emotions. But still those of us who lived the nineties dearly miss our unhealthy crack cocaine romances.

Yep. That's why Aashiqui 2 blew me away. I know the story wasn't spectacular or anything, it's just that it had been so so long since there was a pure love story in Bollywood. They should make more movies like this.

What's intense romance anyway? Flying hair, balloons, chocolates, tattooing lover's name on body, slashing wrists, flying dupattas, dropping pallus, never ending eyelocks?😆
Romance should be realistic, subtle and suited to times than a gimmicky circus. I can watch a DCH or Sparsh anytime but can't take 90s-2000s mush. Not even for childhood nostalgia.

It reached saturation point with 2 decades of such movies, their endless re runs on TV and TV serials copying them. Just like action had been saturated by early 90s.

I liked that Aashiqui 2 had a certain complexity to its characters and wasn't just about cardboard teenybopper characters jumping around colourful sets or Ooty hills.

Yes I wanna see more pure romance Salman Khan movies.
After watching him brutally killing goons since Wanted I missed him acting as Prem.
