Chapter 13

My love, please forgive me

For I'm but a reluctant coward

Without hate hear my silent plea

Past and fear has my future devoured

That evening, he got her home phone number from the same nurse, she helped him with the promise of total anonymity. He waited till night.

She was putting away the washed dishes when the phone rang. Roshni ran to grab then phone. Answered before Astha could say anything. She said "hello, this is Roshni speaking, My mamas daughter, who is this?"

Astha was coming towards her in a hurry. Before Roshni could say anything more astha took the phone from her hand and kept the handset to her ear. She was hearing giggles from the other end. She said "hello!" And then it was complete silence from the other end.

She said "hello" one more time. "Astha, please don't hang up" she heard. "Wrong number" and she cut the call. It was him. His voice calling out to her. Isn't that what she wants. Hearing him say her name was like music to her ears. She felt she heard her name being called out for the very first time in her life. It's sounded so right.

Shlok new she wouldn't take her call. But he needed to do something. Right now that's all he could do. He wanted to be discharged as soon as possible. He'll go to her. He'll land in front of her doorstep. If that's what he needs to do to make her listen to what he has to say, to what his heart feels for her. He knew then and there that It's he who needs to do something about it.

He needed to think of something.He needed to be in the hospital few more days. He assumed that she can't stay home indefinitely. At some point she needs to get back to her patients and resume her duties. He's ready to wait. He didn't have a choice.

After three days Astha needed to be back in the hospital. She had surgeries scheduled for the next day. She asked her colleague to take over shlok's case. He didn't mind.

On the fourth day Shlok found out from his now friend nurse Sandy that she had in fact resumed duties but has given his file to her colleague. He was furious, hurt and happy at the same time. Everything she's does is proof to him that she really does feel for him.

He decided that he will not create a scene in the hospital. He will not embarrass her nor give her peers or her superiors a reason to point fingers at her or give them any reason to doubt her professiolim. He didn't want to be the reason for her woes but only the reason for her happiness.

But his heart ached when he thought of her being under the same roof but not being able to see her. See his Angel. He yearned to just breath the same air as her. To see her smile that can bring light to even a brightest day. To feel her tender hands. He missed her with every breath he took. He loved her so much that every time he breathes he breathes one for as well.

He didn't want to do anything that will make her hate him or she'll shut him out of her life without ever giving him a chance.

Shlok didn't tell any of the current Developments to his mother. He didn't want her to worry. And he asked her not to call. For she's extremely busy and he's doing perfectly well. After 8 days Shlok was discharged. He thanked the staff and the doctors. He had to come back in few days to remove the sutures. Nurse Sandy, was sad to see her favourite patient leave but she wished him all the best with Dr.Astha. Told him if she can help in anyway she'll be more than willing to help him win his love.

She felt like a cheat, a coward for mot having the courage to face up to him. She was hiding. She knew she's hurting him as much as she's hurting being unable to express her true feelings for him.

Shlok's cousin sister had come to pick him up. She wanted him to stay with them. But he declined saying it'll be much better if he stays in a hotel. He didn't want to intrude their privacy nor any intrusions on his.

When he was at the counter settling the payments. He saw Asthas name and her consultation room number. He got an idea. He knew what he was going to do.

After settling the bills, he bought a bouquet of white lilies from the in house gift shop. He went upto her room. She had just finished her consultations and was about to step out of the room.

He knocked on the door. She said "come in"

He walked in. She just froze. She didn't know what to do or what to say. She felt paralysed. She tried to say something but her vocal chords failed her.

Shlok came inside and the door closed behind him. He said "doctor, I got discharged today, I couldn't just walk out with out saying thank you to you, You saved my life. I need your help again. This time nobody else but you can save my life. You Are the only one that's got the antidote that can cure my aching heart. Do you have it? Are you willing to give to me and put me out of this misery?"

"I know you too feel something for me, so please don't try and tell me otherwise. I'm not a fool. I have seen it in your eyes. Don't deny it"

Saying this he walked up to where she stood rooted staring at him like a statue, unable to comprehend what he just said or the fact that he's standing right in front of her a pouring out his feelings. What is she going to do about it. What is she going to tell him? He asked her a question. What answer can she give him. Nothing? That's it. Even now, when she can clearly feel the pain he's in.

He handed her the flower bouquet and she just stood there like a zombie and she looked up to him. Their eyes met. Her eyes said what her heart felt and her mouth refused to voice.

He smiled at her while leaning towards her and kissed her right cheek and told her "this is just the beginning, I'm not going anywhere, you can't get rid of me that easily" kissed her left cheek ever so softly and turned back and walked towards the door.

"Please forget about me, I have nothing to give you"

He heard her say in almost like a whisper.

He tuned back to face her...and what he saw just broke his heart into million pieces. She was lost and drowning. He needed to throw her a lifeline. He would do anything to see her beautiful smile. He would've given up his own life if that would've put a stop to her pain. She looked vulnerable yet determined.

"It's too late for that. I have crossed that line the very first moment I looked into your eyes. Even death can't'make me forget you!"

He said looking straight into her tear filled eyes.

"You don't know anything about me. You have no idea what you're getting yourself into. Please just forget about me. There's no other way.I don't have what you're asking for" Asths told Shlok with tears streaming down her cheeks.

"Then why don't you tell me? I'm all ears. I know that you have two girls. And I also know that there is no other man in your life as well. All I know is that I can't go on living my life with out you being in it"

She was shocked to find out that he knows about her daughters, and still wants to be in her life. "How do you know?" She asked him..

"I have my ways. I'm very resourceful when I need to be." He said with a hint of mischief in his voice.

He stood less than few inches from her...she instinctively took a step back. He didn't want to frighten her. So he too took a step back.

"I don't mind if you have 2 or two dozen kids. I will love each and everyone of them as my very own, I know it's difficult for you to except this, but Asths for you, for your happiness My love knows no bounds".

"Please just leave, let me and my babies live our lives just as we've done so far. We are very happy the way things are. We don't need you!"

She said and turned her back to him and said in a firm tone "please just go"

He took two steps towards her and she immediately said "don't come near me, stay away"

"But I do!" He whispered in her ear from behind.
