Abhimanyu's Death necessary?

Abhimanyu's death was it necessary?Krishna could have saved him but didn't why?Probably Pandavas were still fighting with guilt that they had to kill their own kin(guru drona etc...)whilst Kaurav were fighting war on apersonnal level.Abhimanyu's death in such a way was necessary to wake up Pandavas thatnthey were fighting not on personal level but for establishing Dharma& there was no space for personal feelings/relatives etc...

everyone born has to die ...what better death than on battlefield...and even better if u are the key in god' mission. abhi will always live forever

Not talking about mundane life& death issues here.Death of Abhimanyu in Mahabharata was one turning point for Pandavas-sometimes God makes us do things which we think are tough but actually he is pushing us beyond our limits without us realising it.Pandavas would'nt have battled fiercly if the death of Abhi had'nt happened.

I think that despite his best efforts to convince Arjun, the latter wasn't taking the war seriously. It dragged on for 12 days, w/ only marginal victories for the Pandavas, mainly due to other warriors - Bhima, Satyaki, Abhimanyu, Dhrishtaketu, Dhrishtadyumna and others. Krishna saw that Arjun was still too reverential towards the likes of Bheeshma & Drona. As a result, Krishna probably determined that the only way to make Arjun take this war seriously was make him experience the death of his son.

Well there are several background stories on why Abhimanyu had to die. We can only guess.

i liked the analysis made by Vrish..Arjun, till abhi's death looked at the war as a competition, not as a war per se..his respect and love for his guru and pitamah could not be swayed no matter how hard Krishna or even arjun tried..Abhi's death brought abt the killer instinct in him, where his vanity/ego/respect all became pale before his son's cruel death..

So his probable conclusion was that Arjun needed a shock treatment, so this was it. Arjun allowed himself to be swayed by insults from the Shamshaptakas, rather than seriously dedicating himself to seeing that Yudhi wasn't captured. Abhimanyu's death was what was needed to make Arjun realize that this was a real enemy he was fighting, not his pitamahas & gurus and so on.

The contrast b/w the first 13 days & day 14 can be seen. At the end of the 14th day, 8 of the Kaurava akshaunis were destroyed. Most of them would have been destroyed on day 14 itself - from days 1-13, just 2 of the Akshauni commanders - Bheeshma and Sudakshina of Kambhoja - were downed. Whereas by the end of day 14, most of the Kaurava army had been decimated.

It was tragic: Abhimanyu would have been a stabilizing successor to Yudhistir after the destruction of the Yadavas, and the Pandava retirement, since Parikshit was still not ready for that job.

Mahabharat war ended on 18 th day bt the actual war n the ultimate destruction of Kauravas started from 14th day , a day after the brutal n cold blooded murder of Veer Abhimanyu...5 days n game over for kauravas...If unforutnate thing hadnt happened , perhaps Pandavas would have lost ...as thy were still engrossed n fighting with their inner feelings (Esp Arjun) who is a example of human who is bounded n attached with relations...His son''s death not only shook him bt also made him realise tht its necessary to wipe out entire Kaurava clan from the face of the earth...including those who support them ...deserves the same fate...


Abhimanyu played a pivotal role in Mahabharat...He led pandavas to success with hi sacrifice...n his life was worthy compare to many wo even though lived a long life bt couldnt contribute much
