More from IIFA
| | | Foxy lady! | This is one actress who really knows how to dress up. We love her casual chic style on the red carpet and Kangana Ranaut didn't disappoint at the IIFA awards.
She looked smashing in a gold gown with a plunging neckline when she went up to receive the Best Debut award, and stunningly sexy in a little black dress at another IIFA event.
The make-up was minimal and the slightly messed up hair went perfectly with both outfits. All in all, great styling.
We're predicting that Kangana will go the Preity Zinta way: unique looks, the right films, an appreciative audience and a style diva tag will help her go the distance in B-Town.
But please, oh please, don't shy away from controversies. Little Miss Perfect can be so very boring, no?
| Chew on this...
| What is it with certain Indians and gora skin? While Aishwarya Rai was at her nicest best with both the Indian and foreign media at IIFA, hubby Abhishek Bachchan didn't leave Mumbai without his trademark scowl.
You know, the one reserved for the Indian press? Indian TV crews tell us that he refused to speak nicely to them, constantly throwing that now infamous attitude.
But the minute the lovely English presenter from CNN stopped the couple on the red carpet, Abhi turned on the trademark Bachchan charm. In fact, he was more than willing to talk about his grand wedding, that too in great detail!
Seriously, we thought he'd be the last person to pander to this sort of bias. After all, the British media is far more intrusive and aggressive than us, no, Abhi dahling?
| Scowling Bips
| A birdie present at the IIFA event in Yorkshire tells us that Bipasha Basu got a bitter taste of her own medicine when a local radio station slammed her for an entire day for being rude to them! The crew had turned up for an interview, but Bips was peeved with the organisers for not providing her with an AC dressing room at the show.
She made a big fuss about not being treated well for all to see.
As a result, the radio crew had to bear the brunt of her tantrum when she refused to speak to them.
So they did the only logical thing and slammed her on air.
Bips, of course, could do nothing but squirm. You know, it's really not that hard to be nice to people!
| | Insecure? Who me?
| | | | All About The Looks: Saif Ali Khan | Saif Ali Khan is not doing Karan Johar's film, to be directed by his protg Tarun Mansukhani.
"But it's not because I'm insecure about being in the same frame as Abhishek and Aishwarya, for chrissake!
I'd love to do a full-fledged film with Abhishek. As for Aishwarya, we've never been together in any film. Regardless, I can see all of us having a ball together," says Saif.
The reason he gives for opting out of Karan's film is rather unique. "It's the looks that I have to sport in my current lot of films.
There's a beard that I've grown for Abbas-Mustan's Race, which I'm currently shooting for.
It goes off for Yash Raj Films' Tashan, which I start in a couple of days, but then I have another look for it.
After that, I change my appearance again for Kunal Kohli's film! In fact, the dates for Kunal and Karan's film coincided.
Since I was already committed to Kunal, I couldn't fit Karan's film into my schedule." Well, at least there was something more to it than just 'date problems'!
| Jaya gives away 33 awards!
| | | | | Keeping Busy: Jaya Bachchan with Gujarati theatre actress Padmarani | While the rest of the Bachchan clan was in the UK for the IIFA awards, Jaya Bachchan stayed put in Mumbai.
On Sunday, she took time off to watch Sanjay Goradia's Gujarati play Ba - E Maari Boundary at Bhaidas Hall, Vile Parle.
Having previously worked with Goradia in two plays (Dr Mukta and Ma Retire Hoti Hai),
their association goes back a long way and hence the actress was a special guest at the 300th show of the play.
It's been directed by Vipul Mehta and penned by Imtiaz Patel, and takes on a grandmother who wants to be part of the glam set.
Interestingly, Jaya distributed 33 trophies to the cast and crew that day!
| Repeat offenders
| | | | EEKS! Shakti Kapoor | AARGH! Udit Narayan | | Can someone please, please, pleeeeeease tell these two men to dress their age? Or at the very least dress nicely?
Seriously, What's with Shakti Kapoor's upturned collar and hideous jacket? He's always dressed like a tapori-gone-mod at these filmi events!
Then there's singer Udit Narayan and his dowdy sense of style. With all that money, the least you can buy yourself is a decent wardrobe and a stylist, instead of stepping out in public in that baby blanket-turned-into-a-shirt thingy!
Aarghhh. We want to tear our hair out in aggravation! | |
