So I wanted to make this topic during ra.one itself but oh well...
Anyways, when ra.one released, a famous review had the headline that it was srk's most expensive mid life crisis...b4 that, I didn't see film reviews talking about actors personal lives, or getting personal with their criticism...but ever since, here seems to be this huge surge of caustic and pungent personal criticism in reviews...vigil idiot, mihirfadnavis etc included...

I have to admit, I have enjoyed quite a few of those reviews that did sometimes get personal with the criticism because some of them were funny...and most of us think so too...but now that I think back, I also think that they should have excercised some caution because let's face it, a regular blogger writing his thoughts is different to a professional journalist writing a review, whose views are getting published or telecasted for the general public to read by a 3rd party who pays them and thrives on the film industry...

...some defend it saying it's their style of writing to be witty and snarky...some say it's their opinion and they are allowed to express it the way they want to,...fair enough...some say it's crossing the line and going into an unprofessional space, which is also a fair point...tbh I'm confused myself about my stand on this...what are your views...?

No I don't think personal critisism is required. They can critized the movie as much as they want or how bad the actor was in that particular movie but they have no right to dig someone's personal life and use that as a reason to prove their point.
Recent example is humshakals, I think some of reviews were horrible and such kind of critism which they used to critized the movie wasn't required at all.

But then each to their own, this is my opinion.

I don't think personal criticism is required..it just makes the critic look bad.
Srk during Ra.One was getting so much hate because I think that was during his rumored affair with PC was going around. He just wasn't having a good year..why put him down even more? His an actor and entertainer..these critics should just leave it at that. What does his personal life have to do with his films?

Pathaka.. I've always just loved reading your posts! Just wanted to let you know that 😆 😳

I think film critics need to only focus on reviewing the film, the actors personal lives should be left out. Their job is to tell us if a film is good/bad, not to play psychologists of celebs 😆

I think personal opinions should be kept out of film reviews. I have seen it happen many times and it ends up sometimes impacting the film as a whole. Like when last year RGV's 26/11 was released someone said if people wouldnt have known its directed by him the film would have done much better.

It should not be there but they have had it for ages now as it helps get them more readers. No one has knowledge of what a movie is supposed to be, nor has inclination to know. General readers and viewers just lap up the bashing like a spicy real life drama.

When they're talking about things unrelated to the movie, it's not a movie review anymore

Not just personal life, I have read some of the most popular reviewers writing "This actor is on a roll", "This actress delivered yet another bad performance". Why bring in their careers when you are talking about ONE movie. Talk about this movie, this performance and leave it at that. You can write another article assessing their careers.

We Salman fans are often accuse as we love salman blindly, we make his film big hits blindly... but then these critics are also the same... they will see:

1. Film should not have any ITEM NUMBER.

2. It should star actors like Irrfan Khan, Nawazuddin, Rajkumar or if any popular star does their choice of films, they will praise him like Ranbir is praised for Barfi, Arjun for 2 states, but they never praise them for Popular Masala films.

3. Masala Genre - NO NO. Give only 2 stars max.

4. It should not star SALMAN KHAN or any of his CAMEO, if it is there, TRASH it.

5. Raise the level of their kind of Cinema so much that it is only be called as QUALITY CINEMA.

6. Trash every Popular film which Audience is loving STRONGLY,

7. Not even Reviews, they will publish Articles on POPULAR FILMS as how Audience is loving them, indirectly will mock them.

8. Those ACTORS or those Low Profile Star which they like will also be Trashed badly if they will do Popular Cinema, like Irrfan doing a Thank you kind of film.

9. They will set a trend as only those films n those actors working in those films should get Good REVIEWS + Stars for those films. POPULAR with Audience, they will trash it immediately.

Now some films may have got both critical as well as commercial success, but those films are very rare in numbers as compare to films which CRITICS Trash on purpose having personal bias for those stars.

Salman, Ajay, Akki will face immense trashing for their Masala films, while if they work in films like OMG, Special 26, same Critics will praise them coz those are their kind of films.

I think CRITICS wants that Audience should LIKE / WATCH those FILMS only which they LIKE or LOVE. Else you will face criticism in various forms.
