I just watched Nishabd for the first time and with out any bias or the fact that Jiah is no more with us...I strongly feel the kind of performance she gave in her very first movie was simply outstanding...she was so so good! I think all the debut awards she deserved...if that was purely on acting and box office shouldn't play a role as kareena got one for refugee (flop) compared to amisha KNPH (BB)

Deepika on the other hand has improved now but she was a wooden plank in her first movie, Jiah acted a lot better imho

Its such a shame that Jiah wasn't given opportunities, she proved in her first movie that she was a brilliant performer

Nothing against jiah but deepika deserves debut award, she was too good in oso.

I watched OSO and Nishabd. Deepika was pretty good in the film and did justice to both characters. Jia was strictly ok.

A DEBUT award is not necessarily given for good acting...rather its for how much impact a new entrant has made on the audience...no one expects an earth shattering performance from a newbie..and since Deepika's movie OSO was a much wider viewed movie...and Deepika's role was substantial and she did make a first impression...so i think it was justified that Deepika got it...

Besides points made by BI I feel awards steer clear of controversial films. Nishabd had created too much furore. Too much bashing and shaming for everyone associated with it esp, Big B. Such aftermath scares media and award juries.

Jiah was only exposing and titillating in it. I am sorry I failed to see anything special in her perf...

No, I think deepika was pretty good in Oso and Oso was a commercial flim. Deepika had a dream debut and she did justice to her role as well. And that's why she got best debut award . According to me she deserved to win and that's why she won

we were bashing amitab over it? for playing a role? We were so judgemental back then..,we aren't much better today even. We need to broaden our horizon for different genres. Glad Amitab despite being a legendary figure took such a different and challenging role..full marks to him for doing that and shame on those bashed actors for portraying some thing which exists in the society. Its only reality, disgusting but it exists..the movie only portrayed that!

In my opinion Deepika did a good job in OSO considering that it was her very first film and I watched Nishabd, I don't know why lol because it looked dull as hell, and no disrespect to Jiah but she wasn't anything special in it and I did find it very dull.

Deepika was memorable. Jiah was not and I cannot clearly say her acting was so spectacular that it can be debated like RL and Lootera though not debut awards can for instance.

ETA: Deepika was always stood out, even when she was wooden. Jiah did not stand out among the BW actresses.
