+ + THE BABY PROJECT - PART I + +
Overall, Sanyukta Agarwal was having a terrific day.
Vidushi had accidentally on purpose upturned a bottle of ink on her dress in the morning, Randhir had made sure to point it out during class, and PKC had scolded her and given her an hour long lecture on mannerisms and the importance of appearance if she wanted to ever become a professional. He really was one to talk. Although the day was drawing to an end, that had in no way lessened Sanyukta's desire to aim a kick at something. Or rather, someone.
The entire day she had been whining and complaining to Kaustuki, telling her of the things she would want to hit Randhir with, which ranged from her pencil to an hammer. Kaustuki, being the wise friend that she was, chose not to comment upon it and unsuccessfully tried to keep up a chatter, in the hopes of distracting her, all the while.
She was in the canteen, with Kaustuki, eating noodles when she pointed her fork at Kaustuki and, not for the first time, said, "What I don't get, is how he can be so annoying! I mean, ugh, does he have a life or not?" She huffed in annoyance, "Has he got nothing better to do than spending all his time plotting how he could get someone in trouble?" she asked, waving her fork in the air while making gestures with her hand.
"That's exactly what you do." Kaustuki pointed out, at which, Sanyukta hastened for a change of topic.
They were in the Mechanical Lab, finishing up their project for PKC, when Vardhan Sir's voice echoed over the intercom, "All the Dream Team students are expected to meet me in my cabin, in exactly one minute. Anyone arriving any later might as well consider himself as no longer being a member of my Team."
Sanyukta dropped her sheets, and cursed out loud as everyone started running towards Vardhan Sir's cabin. Deciding that she would abandon them, she picked her bag and ran behind Randhir, who was the last out of the lab.
He looked back at her and smirked. "Slow as always, Farzi?" he asked.
"Look out for yourself, Randhir." she said, and stuck her tongue out at him.
They kept taunting each other, the rest of the way to Vardhan Sir's cabin, wherein all the members of the dream team awaited. All but one. "Sahil will not be taking part in this new task I have set for you, since he has had to take a leave from college, on account of his Father's ill health. And that will, of course, make pairing you up easier." Vardhan Sir announced, and without pausing to take in their reactions, he went on.
"I have seen you of bunch of Farzis work" he said, looking at each one in turn. Randhir looked furious to be called one of them, but he said nothing. "And the way you behave, like children! You're a bloody team, and you need to start behaving like that!" he yelled, making everyone flinch.
"But since none of you plan to take initiative, I need to take matters into my own hands." At that, the air was thick with palpable apprehension, but no one said anything. "You need to trust each other, and need to work with each other in every situation, no matter how unexpected or difficult. And for that, as your final assignment for this year will be" he said, "The Baby Project."
