I have started watching Indian Idol regularly from the Piano Round.. I must also confess that this is the first season of Idol I am following seriously, and that is because I see that this time there are a lot of talented singers around👏 And this is my first topic in the Idol section 😳 (Me a regular in the other musical show sections 😛)

What I have been noticing that the Piano rounds are pretty much going the free format way, in the sense that all can sing any song they like.. This may be good for the contestants as its easier for them to sing the kind of songs they like... But it may result in few singers singing from the same genre of songs again and again...

Do you think that it would be a better idea to see theme based rounds? And here, we could have varied rounds so that even the versatility of the singers is tested. Please share your thoughts 😊

its good that you brought it up jaya. i agree wityh you. there must be theme based rounds. ofcourse since singers are to be eliminated thru public votes they have to showcase what they are best at and be allowed to sing songs that they feel comfortable with. but the singing has become monotonous.
i noticed most of the girls singing sunidha chauhan songs or item numbers. most of the girls have husky voices and are not experimenting. i didnt see the last 2 episodes completely but so i am saying this on the basis of the 1st 2 piano rounds.
the srgmp format is better where there is a theme for every round. atleast if there are themes like 60s songs or romantic songs the contestants will have to come out of their comfort zone and display their versatality.

Thanks for the clarification Manali - that helps 😊

But then why only top 10 in the finals.. if you have opened up Piano round for public voting to choose the 10 best singers for the finals, shouldnt they be tested more rigorously before reaching that highest level of the competition...

As already pointed out, most of these girls seem to have a husky voice and are only singing Sunidhi's or Alisha's item number kind of songs... Ankita is jumping everywhere, making everyone dance with her similar genre of songs.. was wondering how she will do in singing a Shreya Ghoshal softer number... Same would apply for the other contestants too

The thing I'm not sure about is whether the contestants chose the songs or the channel. At least two of the girl contestants (Vanita and Smita) said they had been given the songs. On the other hand, some of the girls seem to be singing songs exactly suited to their voices (e.g. Charu in the first two rounds), so maybe contestants also have some say. Does anyone know what exactly happens? 😕

welcome jaya to II forum

i was missing you people in this forum, (now i'm not interested in srgmp dramas)so i hardly go to that forum.

i think the contestants have given 4 songs to perform in piano rounds
i dont think that they have options to chose, may be they having the option to chose which song on which day.(if they are not voted out)

example:smita singing kya jaanu sjan in first round and coming to bottom 4 and richa sang jaaneman she was also there in bottom 4
2nd round they both sang what the public is expecting to see from them smita with rock song and richa with melodious with classical touch.

charu and ankita on the otherhand singing only fast numbers
it will not be surprising if suhit come over to the next round and he'll be singing a fast number where the last 2 episodes sony want to prove that suhit can sing melodious where they went wrong.

Thanks for this welcome 😊
I only hope that these 4 songs given are from different genre so that it does test singers on all the aspects... So far Charu seems to be singing songs that fit her very well (not that she does not have a good voice), and so is Ankita... Considering that 4 different kinds of songs are given, I am looking fwd to see how Ankita or Santanu will do a more melodious number, how Richa or Rehaan will do in a faster beat song and so on...

Welcome to II Jaya. I was first active in Saregamapa but the show is not upto the mark this time and I am sick of the drama. There are not many interesting discussions on the forum either. So now I am a regular here.

I like theme based songs but I guess we will have to wait till piano round gets over.

Hi Jaya! 😃
Welcome to II3 section.
They're start the themes in the gala round (top 10/12)
Even though there's no fixed theme right now, a few of the contestants (Emon, Deepali, Smita) have shown some versatility already. 😳 But yes, I'm looking fwd to the gala theme rounds. I hope the themes are better than II2. Last year, there were pathetic rounds like blockbuster movie rounds (it was supposed to be a Qawwali round but they changed it 😭) and shaadi songs.
