WHAT'S WRONG, KARAN?
The outgoing film-maker's decision to purposely keep the media at bay has left everyone puzzled
Film-maker Karan Johar surprised members of the press on Monday (June 2) when he refused to interact with them at an event. The usually media-friendly director had given his team strict instructions that he would not be speaking about anything other than the TV show he was promoting. On stage, he was his funny self, and he even gave bytes to TV channels about the show. But when asked about anything else, he flatly said, "No, I'm not talking."
This isn't the only instance of Karan being circumspect about speaking to the media in recent times. He has been unavailable on several occasions, which is highly unlike him. He hasn't reverted to media queries or been active on Twitter either.
Karan has maintained a low profile ever since Hrithik Roshan walked out of his ambitious project, Shuddhi, in February this year. Soon after, he had to diplomatically dodge questions about a potential souring of personal equations with Kareena Kapoor Khan, who also detached her name from the film. Subsequent rumours about an alleged fallout with his close friends Kajol, and then Imran Khan, (post his flop production, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein; 2013), may have further caused him to retreat into a shell.
As a result, in the last few months, the otherwise outgoing Karan has been purposely shying away from the media. He has barely been seen in the news or the social circuit. Even on his birthday, he didn't step out and pose for the shutterbugs. He was also missing during the promotions of his co-production, 2 States. The only time he did talk to the media was at the trailer launch of his new production last week, where he said that nothing has changed between him and Imran.
We understand that constant media scrutiny can be tough, but we're hoping to see the film-maker back to his jovial self soon.
