A number of new young actors come every year in Bollywood. Some are forgotten after one film. Others become a one-hit-wonder. And a select few leave their name printed forever in legacy...
This Friday's release HEROPANTI marks the debut of actor Tiger Shroff, son of Jackie Shroff. Directed by Sabbir Khan (director of KAMBHAKKTH ISHQ), the film also marks the Hindi acting debut of actress Kriti Sanon.
Being a star son always comes with a huge burden of expectations. Some star sons rise to the next level and live upto their parent(s) name by became a huge star themselves, such as Hritikh Roshan who has enjoyed superstardom for over a decade now. Similarily, although he has been in Bollywood for a less period of time than Hritikh, Ranbir Kapoor is also currently known as one of the top stars in India. Sunny Deol also made a huge mark with historic Blockbusters like GADAR.
However, other star sons fall flat on their face! Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, and Uday Chopra are examples of star sons who could not make it big and are considered to be failures at the box office.
So the question is, which rank will Tiger Shroff find himself in? Can he reach the upper echelon of superstardom? Or will be fall into a rock-bottom pit like many others have?
Let me analyze Tiger Shroff for a bit. His action scenes and his dancing (especially in the popular Whistle Baja song) have been appreciated. BUT, it seems like he needs to polish his acting skills. Many have found a problem with his dialogue delivery. When I hear him speak one of the dialogues, I get the impression that it is someone like Sharman Joshi delivering the dialogue rather than him which is not a good thing. Also, in one of the scenes where he is shown punching, his face looks expressionless and he looks too stiff face/body movement wise.
His looks have also come in for some criticism. Some have said that he appears to kinda look like a girl, while others think that he looks like a homosexual.
Truth be told, the film itself doesn't seem to offer any novelty either from looking at it's theatrical trailer. Seems to be some same old storyline.
Basically, what I feel is that the action scenes, dances, the heroic title of the film, and the popular Whistle Baja song will ensure that masses will come to watch the film and give the film a good opening. Beyond that, once the masses realize that Tiger Shroff doesn't have that dum and style yet to carry off such a mass-appealing macho role, the masses will reject the film!
With the multiplex audience, there is nothing for them really. The film is a mass-appealing film and is not for the multiplex audience. Also, with the film appearing to lack novelty (seems to have an old storyline as I mentioned), the multiplex audience would further reject the film.
A silver lining here though is that the costs of the film are not too high. According to BOI, the cost is around 25 crores, and with both box office collections and non-theatrical revenues the makers could make some profit even if the film doesn't show good trending at the box office.
