This is how a typical BW film is done these days.
Provided no conn. with the ppl involved in the process.
Writer- had a gr8 story written.
Producer- loves the story but need screenplay
Director- hires screenplay writer as to how this story from book to be told on screen.
Script writer- who has knowledge of all film making aspects.. write the script. may 10000 pages.
casting director- looks for who shud caste in which roles.. unless main leads r already finalised.
LIne producer- starts looking for locations and practicality of the shooting in those locations. Hez also an accountant.. if director demands more.. he talks to producer n say yes or no. He travels with entire unit.
Studio( if its like some YRF or Dharma or Filmcraft).. also keep an eye on what to do outdoor and what in studios... others have to hire the studios.
Actors- once finalised after securing their dates with their agents, the film goes on floor.
Team- gotta shoot which scene when as per the caste available.. that means any scene can be shot doesnt matter when it appears on screen.
Accident- say something didnt go to plan.. the producers have security from finance companies.. every1 needs bank.. Bill Gates or Gate Bills.
Dialogs- Mostly they r written in scripts, but on hand dialog writers r needed. As per the situation.
DOP- Director of photography.. now known as DOC- Director of cinematography... Is the eyes of director.. and we know how imp. eyes r for us. U must have seen directors looking into camera.. coz thats the eyes.
Agents- star agents keep up a good job if the star is working on multiple projects..
Producers/studios.. keep track of the progress with line producer rather than director.
Studios get ready for all the post production from dubbing to green screen.. once the shooting is over.
Only director talks with team of post production.. now its his baby.
The final cut is hown to producers.. and the post production team.. and they see the lenth of the movie.. and editor comes in.
Mostly.. no1 can argue with editor of high reputaion.. but director (and some egoistic actors) influence him to chop some scenes and not others..
Editor and backround music director makes up team.. and director joins in.. the contunity of film's story narrative with b/g music gotta gell well.
All is done and comes marketting dept. How to promote the movie.
TV channels to music studios to distributors r on board.
Producers think of their profit, as every1 else.. the film is sol to distributors.. mostly as margin of 60-40%
Exhibitors, cimemawalas come into play coz they r last in chain to show the film to public. If the film is sold at high prices the prices wud go up.. and they can make their money.. distributors too get lions share.. and happy. Producers have still cable rights, music rights and royalty.. they hardly lose money.
In the whole process everyone makes money worhtwhile, the film is hit to BB>
But, thats the typical process. It changes from big studios like YRF to Dharma.. they chose actors b4 writers and vice versa.
