Name - the destiny
This was the worst day of his life. First he had woken up with really bad hair. He did not know why he was still carrying on with this neck length hair style. He should have cut it months ago, but no his friends told him he looked historical, so he had found himself reluctant to cut the silky but today very unruly mane. Then his brother Bheem had made fun of his ponytail, and now his brothers were making fun of the Historical tag by asking him make a tattoo of bow and arrow on his arms; ohh well, arms that he kept in shape by regularly visiting the gym. And then his shower had broken down, so he had to wash in his younger brothers' room. And now he was late for the classes!
Really quickly Arjun parked his blood red Ducati in the motorcycle shed, and ran toward the science building. Today he had four back to back classes, and he was running behind in computer assignment. Seriously, on a day like this, Arjuna could not understand why he was the topper of the class. In fact he was favorite of his professors, which increased his responsibility even more. Arjuna was running fast, climbing two steps at a time. He was right there in front of the class, and then boom. He bumped into a red cloth clad person! - no a girl, it was a girl!
Draupadi touched her forehead. She couldn't believe she had bumped into somebody on her very first day of college. This boy, a very well built boy was so fast, she hadn't even realized when he had suddenly appeared in front of her. Well, she would have to agree that he was fast, and in that white shirt and knee torn blue denim jeans with black shades on, he was quite handsome as well. Ohhh darn, the whole class was looking at them and laughing. Some males were cheering Paarth, Paarth and making fun of them like maniacs. On her first day itself, Draupadi had managed to turn every head in her direction. Ohhh the sheer unfairness of it. The only reason she had transferred from another college to this place was because she wanted to have a peaceful college life. In her previous college too many boys had wanted to be her boyfriend and too many girls were jealous of her. Initially she had decided to fight it all, but the prospect of better study, healthy competition, new experience, new friends and one true romance had forced her to come to this college.
Now she had managed to be noticed again. Draupadi got up really quickly and sat on the desk. The boy called Paarth joined his friends. Draupadi couldn't stop herself from sneaking a peak at him. He slowly removed his sunglasses, and suddenly looked at her as if forced by instinct. Their eyes met, hazel with black. Deep oceans of great characters that their souls were. Centuries passed between the two in that electrifying moment, and Arjuna's bad day brought destiny into his life. Destiny even he was unaware of right now. Destiny whose connection both of them have not been able to break in eons. Destiny that was their past as much as it was their future. It was a destiny on course of correction and it will flow until it found the right culmination. Destiny of Arjun and Draupadi.
Chapter two -
She was amidst high rise of blazes. Fire was all around her, it was merging into her. She was part of the fire. Draupadi was scared, she squirmed in her sleep. She wanted to run away, but she could not rise. She called and called for help, but no one came forward. The fire itself started enveloping her like mother. It was not hot, it was not burning her, rather it was surrounding her like the womb of a mother. And then Draupadi heard noise of racing horse. It was coming nearer and nearer. She again shouted for help, but she was alone, all alone. A figure wearing white clothes was riding the fast paced horse. The fire around her flared towards the riding figure like a roaring lion. A jolt of pain crossed Draupadi's heart. She woke up sweating, tears in her eyes and mass of agony in her heart. She couldn't control her tears. There was pain, a lot of pain. Her eyes kept on flowing; her breaths were starting to come in sobs. Think of something positive, she told herself. Think of something positive.
Paarth , his name was Paarth; The white shirted boy she had bumped into in the afternoon. Draupadi remembered his well toned chest and that male fragrance of his body, which had assailed her senses in those few seconds. She didn't know why, but when she wanted to think of a diversion, his face, his eyes, that shared electricity came to her mind. She wanted to shake the image out, but it would not go away. She was not comfortable thinking about him, but the diverted thought was bringing her some comfort. The pain in her heart was receding. Draupadi touched her heart softly and tried to feel the texture of emotion that was gripping her heart. It was not altogether painful anymore. The sadness had started mixing with raw and intense almost touchable sweetness. With this feeling, Draupadi drifted to sleep. The last words she remembered were of a male calling someone Panchali...Panchali'. There was smile in his voice. Draupadi shared this smile with him in her sleep and sailed to beautiful dreams of rivers, trees and horse rides under the evening sun.
"Bade bhaiya, if you keep on zoning out like this, you will be late today too" Nakul said to Arjun. Arjun quickly fastened buttons of his beige shirt. His brother was right, he WAS zoning out today. But, he couldn't help himself. He had woken up with very weird feeling. He felt as if someone had called for his help and he had run in bounds without reaching his destination. And then he had been calling someone, Panchali' he had said. The feel of that name felt almost exotic in his mouth. He mouthed the name again - Panchali'. The name was taking him to some far away land, he felt nostalgic.
"Bade bhaiya , you are zoning out again. What is eating you up so early in the morning?" Nakul asked curiously.
"Nothing beauty queen, I am thinking about what to gift you one your next birthday. A mirror seems like a good gift to me" Arjun replied cheekily, begetting peals of laughter by all his brothers and some mumbled complaint from his dearest Nakul.
Arjun reached the classroom still pondering over his fazed dreams and his dream girl named Panchali'. Seating at his desk, his head automatically turned towards the bench of the girl he had bumped into yesterday. She was standing in her place, all 5 foot 5 inches, clad in beautiful purple dress which was hugging the curves of her body like second skin. Arjun's felt his heart beat fasten. Without even knowing it, he softly called the name Pnachali'.
As if Draupadi's heart had listened to Arjun's call, she looked at him suddenly, and there it was again, the electricity, the nostalgia, and the questions. The two started towards each other, the world merging out into subliminal cacophony. For Arjun, only the girl in purple dress existed and for Draupadi, only the boy name Paarth existed. They were being pulled towards each other by a connecting thread, which was shortening as they walked towards each other. Arjun lifted his hand, as if to touch her, she looked deeply into his eyes, into his soul. She is finally here, his heart told him, grab her, hold her, never let go of her, his mind told him. Arjun was ready to act upon his instinct.
She breathed heavily, waiting for him to act, she waited and waited, and as soon as his hand touched her, she fainted. The class which had been busy chatting and talking ran towards the new girl. Every one surrounded her and started calling out her name. Someone was calling her Draupadi', someone was calling her Panchali. For a moment Arjun stood paralyzed in his place. Draupadi', Panchali' , the names kept on playing in his head, he was having a great headache. His instincts alarmed him, he quickly shouted directions to clear the area, he picked her up and ran towards the dispensary. Nothing should happen to her. He would not allow anything to happen to her. His head was hurting, his mind was racing, and the energy from her body was making him faint too. It was mixing with his body and overloading his system, but he held on. The only thing that mattered was that he would not allow anything to happen to her.
