If it was the original Shlok, he would beat Abhay to pulp for saying it. He would never doubt his sister based on the words of Abhay, who he thinks is worthless. Shlok always takes family prestige as important ..we have seen that before too, he knows how to control Astha and devoted to his father, so that is what is shown today. He did defend his sister for a minute but cannot say anything further because of his baba and the reasoning that his baba gave. But this time, his sister ran away from Abhay and she won't do that without a big reason. Though family prestige is important to him he won't blindly throw his sister into that hell just because his father says. If he does, then he cannot be the hero. If he is not the hero, then the love story doesn't make sense to me. Shlok himself said that its the duty of the girl's family to see that the girl is treated well at her inlaws place. Since Jyothi ran away from Abhay, he knows that she is not safe with him. Why would he agree to send her back again? Shlok does oppose his father at times. He stayed away from the family for three years and didn't come back even after his father requested him again and again. Even when he promised Swathi, that he would take care of her, he didn't ask his father's permission before promising her. He can act independant though he loves and respects his father. Why didn't Jyothi explain all the details in front of family, can't she say what Abhay did to her and how she ran away to save eher daughter, then only everybody will understand, no body knows her side of story except Anjali, Astha and Kalindi here...this is my POV. Again like I said they wanted to create more melodrama ..period!
I do not disagree to the point that Astha is being highlighted, and Shlok being reduced. But one point is she didn't say another word when Shlok asked her to stop; what does this prove? nothing really. it highlights neither aastha's character nor shlok's. she went and talked to Anjali to take a stand for her daughter.
If in the actual epi again on Monday if Astha is the savior then nothing much to say.

I am not liking the direction the story is going honestly. I'm waiting for that final nail in the coffin I guess.

I liked the first scene today between Jyoti and Anjali. It was a beautiful scene. Then I was happy that they showed Shlok speaking up. But then the rest was farce. Last time Shlok had stood up for Jyoti. And he had only backed down at the end. They could have shown the same today. Even then he had only backed down because Abhay and Sulbha had fallen at Niranjan feet and showed remorse/fake good side etc. Today he was putting slurs on her character, dragging her like that in the house and talking to her in that abusive manner. Shlok has blind trust in Niranjan, but he is not a blind follower, In swati's case, NA backed down when Shlok took a stand. He had walked out of the house despite Niranjan imploring him not to do so. He decided to give a choice to Astha to divorce him despite knowing Niranjan telling him that he did not believe in divorce. So today why would he not take a stand. If they had shown him taking a stand, asking Jyoti about everything and then in the end backing down if Abhay showed once again the fake remorse or something, even then I could have understood. They could have still shown Astha imploring Anjali to speak up. But here the priority was Jyoti. She would have told Shlok everything about Jyoti's suffering and then they could have shown Shlok getting Abhay arrested, and Niranjan angry that he is losing hold over Shlok. But the way it was done had totally ruined the show. I no longer have patience with this show anymore. Agree

In fact, I am watching Yeh Mohabbatein these days. It is loud and has a lot of melodrama. But at least both hero and heroine are strong though they share a love hate relationship. Also I don't have expectations from the show. I can watch it on and off depending on the written update. It was also quite boring in the middle but they do bring it up time to time. The characters can be irritating in one episode or other, but never so consistently where I don't feel like watching the show . I don't see that happening in EBP. So I am going to take a break from the show at least for now. Even for Avinash, Manish and Geetanjali (my three favorite actors and characters in the show), I can no longer watch this farce.

i also liked the anjali-aastha scene in the bedroom. i felt it showed why anjali doesn't take a stand for her kids. she is a proud woman but she has low self worth after years of abuse. she hides her insecurity behind the tough exterior but she cannot be tough in front of Aastha because aastha knows her secret now and also because aastha is her lone source of comfort. she endures the pain but she doesn't have the courage to fight. she fears the society and her lack of resources. but we won't know much about why she is so scared to take a stand until we know her past. i don't think they will show that. aastha's anger in this scene also seemed right to me. when we see someone being wronged in front of our eyes and the responsible parties are not taking a stand, we do get angry.

shlok's reaction disappointed me the most

Rekha, the family scene to me was the scene meant for Shlok and Jyoti. See last time Shlok had backed down at the end despite his reluctance. Then he compensated by making financial arrangements for her. Now that he has changed and become attached to the family again, he would be the one taking a different stand this time. The CVs are very fond of showing circles. They showed all those stupid circles in ILU track. Rather than showing Shlok shouting ILU in that manner, today was the day to show a change in Shlok by showing him taking a different stand from the father because it was case of his sister.

If they want to show it as a women empowerment show, show Jyoti taking a stand against her tormentor. She has now tasted freedom, an unconditional love of a mother like Kalindi and a friend in Sid. So of course she does not want to go back to that hell hole. But still it is not easy for an abused person to face her abuser. But people become strong and do that. I am going to quote the case of Michelle Knight who has been in news for a year.

Yes, it would not have been easy but there were Kalindi, Sid, Shlok and Astha standing there as her moral support. So if they shown Shlok coming forward and asking Jyoti to tell the entire story, they could have shown Jyoti taking a stand and telling the entire story to the family (not talking about Kalindi part), and imploring Shlok that she does not want to return to Abhay. Then they could have shown Abhay asking for forgiveness and promising that he would never torture Jyoti again, Niranjan telling Shlok that he would give one more chance to Abhay and Shlok this time refusing. Astha is still the person responsible for the change because she brought Jyoti to that stage. Anjali would still be grateful to Astha for doing all this for Jyoti but it would be Shlok getting Abhay arrested and not Astha. This way they could have shown that Niranjan's hold on Shlok weakening and Niranjan panicking at this thought. Then Niranjan would start looking at Astha as a threat to his power because of her hold both on Anjali and Shlok.

If they had shown that, they could have shown everything properly - women empowerment (the abused standing against the abuser, father/son drift, Astha's active role, change in Anjali and brother/sister bond as well as keeping Shlok as a hero rather than an inhumane, spineless, brainless person. They could have also shown Shlok's remorse that he too abused Astha though he was not as bad as Abhay. So his redemption and change could have been highlighted here. The differences with Astha would have still come when he would have believed his father over her.

But showing Astha as the savior in everything, they ruined the episode. That's why I could not enjoy any other scene after that and decided to fast forward Astha/Anjali scenes. Then I decided to watch the precap and that was as bad as today's episode. Shlok totally silent while his sister is being dragged away in that manner by the abusive Abhay.

Anyway, I have stated what I find wrong with this show now. It is really hard to like the show when you are not enjoying any character anymore.

@bold
if they did just that, it would have made the episode more balanced.

STELLAR (>5) from me.
It was very heart breaking to watch the interaction among Aastha , Anjali & Jyoti.

ANJALI is a actress of different class. Hats off to her!

I have watched the entire show breathlessly.

I know some people are having problem with male characters mainly Shlok.

But it is sometimes difficult for the own family people to realize the exact scenario; their judgement becomes confused because of life long love , trust , respect ( for their DAD) whereas it could be much easier to judge the entire situation impartially for an outsider ( like Aastha) who is still not emotionally bound to the family members.

Therefore it became much more clearer to Aastha to judge and take decision whereas it was difficult for NA's own children ( SHLOK & VARAD) who had been trusting and respecting and loving their dad since childhood. Not only that they always showed respect to their dad's decision ( because NA had been always projecting himself as a very caring, dutiful, successful and dependable family man) .In fact both brothers were very confused seeing SID with her sister at late night. In this situation any body would be biased to some extent. In spite of this Shlok could not tolerate any manhandling and bad words about his sister from Abhay.

In my opinion it was very well written and well directed episode.

I get your and Angie's points Rekha... that Shlok should stand for his sister and he has to understand what he made Astha go through by his emotional abuse. If on Monday's epi also they show Shlok not supporting his sister then definitely the show has gone down ...! We cannot watch a male lead who does not support his sister who is also pregnant and who doesn't want to go back to her husband's place. We all are on the same boat here and it used to be so much fun in this forum with various discussions et all.
My guess today they highlighted Anjali, Jyothi as its mother's day and CV's have always used reverse psychology! So they showed the plight of a mother..one mother who wants save her unborn daughter, the other who is unable to save her pregnant daughter.
They also rushed this whole track to highlight this topic on Mother's day too.
