The journey into the entertainment industry is often filled with ambition, uncertainty, and experiences that shape an artist both personally and professionally. While many stories highlight success and glamour, there are also moments that reveal the challenges individuals face behind the scenes. Conversations around personal boundaries and safety, especially during the early stages of one’s career, continue to gain importance as more voices speak up about their experiences.

Actress Daisy Shah recently revisited one such unsettling memory from the beginning of her career, sharing details of an encounter that left her deeply uncomfortable. Speaking in an interview with The Free Press Journal, she recalled an incident that took place in Mumbai when a filmmaker from the South film industry had come to the city in search of new talent. Like many aspiring actors at the time, Daisy attended the meeting hoping it would open doors for her in the industry.

Describing the situation, she explained that a group of around six to seven girls had gathered to meet the filmmaker for auditions. Each of them was being called in one by one for individual interactions. While this is a fairly standard process in casting, Daisy said something about the interaction did not feel right to her. She recounted how the filmmaker’s behavior crossed a personal boundary, making her uneasy during the meeting.

I was touched badly by one of the filmmakers in South. He had come to Mumbai for casting. We were 6-7 girls who went to meet him. He was meeting everyone of us individually. But I didn't like because he touched me and he was holding my hand,” Daisy said.

Opening up further, she shared that physical contact, especially in professional settings, has always made her uncomfortable. She emphasized that this discomfort is something she has consistently felt, regardless of the situation. “I've always been apprehensive about people touching me. The reason why I don't get massage done is because I don't like being touched, even by a woman...by a man is a different story altogether. So that just put me off. I told him 'I will get back to you' but I never got back to him,” she added.

The incident stayed with her long after it occurred, influencing how she approached professional meetings in the future. Reflecting on the lesson she took away from the experience, Daisy stressed the importance of being cautious and aware, particularly in unfamiliar situations. “The incident taught me that you are not supposed to meet anyone alone,” she said.
