SRK turns down negative role

Unlike his contemporary Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan is in no mood to play a villain

Sources reveal that Shah Rukh Khan was approached by Abbas Mustan to star in a negative role in their next action thriller Race 3. They told him that he would be the protagonist of the film, just like Aamir Khan in Dhoom 3. It is learnt that the director duo met SRK and gave him a brief narration. While the actor found the role interesting, he wasn't entirely convinced about it. He isn't ready to play the baddie in the film unless it is a role that really excites him. An insider reveals, "Shah Rukh has worked with the director duo during his early years in Baazigar, in which he had played a grey character but he has passed up on the offer this time. SRK politely told the directors that he didn't feel the audience would accept him in such a dark role for now." Anyway the actor has many directors like Rohit Shetty, Farhan Akhtar and Anurag Basu waiting to start their films with him. It remains to be seen who will get to direct Khan's next film in 2015.

Been there, done that

SRK has played a baddie at the beginning of his career in Darr (1993). He played a man obsessed with the leading lady Juhi Chawla. He also played a similar role in Anjaam (1994) in which is played a disturbing character who falls in love with Madhuri Dixit.

It is not about dark role but Abbas-Mustan and Race franchise both of whom are not that huge for SRK.
He has mostly gone after big names apart from friends ever since he succeeded. No wonder he refused offers from newcomer Rajkumar Hirani earlier!

Wouldn't it be below his standard to do a Race 3 when his arch rival just did a much bigger YRF's Dhoom 3?

SRK never refused Raju Hirani's movies. He signed both of them, even worked on the script for a while and then left. And I wasn't aware that Maneesh Sharma and Rahul Dholakia were big names in any way. Wonder why he's doing those movies then.

If this news is true, then I would think the franchise probably turned him off. Bringing him into Race would just seem awkward. Plus, he's already doing a negative role in Raees.

I think you're the only one thinking like this.😆 I'm sure SRK turned down the role simply cause the script didn't excite him much..as mentioned in the Article.😆
