Green carpet fans surge toward Deepika Padukone, knock down barrier

Things got a little crazy on the green carpet Wednesday after Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone landed at Tampa International Airport. Padukone's stature " she has three International Indian Film Academy nominations this year for best female in a leading role " is lofty enough by itself to draw a crowd. And the 200 or so film fans waiting for her were fired up, having heard the sound system blast out the up-tempo song Lungi Dance from her movie, Chennai Express, a couple of times.

As Padukone made her way toward a small stage, a few dozen fans next to the stage pushed forward, knocking over a decorative waist-high plywood wall covered in green plastic ivy. About a half-dozen Tampa airport police were stationed at intervals along the green carpet to ask fans not to push forward and to hold up the metal barriers, which resemble bike racks, though not along the wall. No one was hurt, and fans did not dislodge the second, more substantial metal barrier behind the wall. After that, Padukone, 28, quickly headed out, signing a few more autographs but not doing any interviews before getting in a waiting SUV.

Tired Saif Ali Khan

Even without fans pushing things over, the green carpet at the airport can be noisy, especially for someone coming off 20 or more hours of travel, which includes at least one change of planes because there are no direct flights from India. On Tuesday, leading man Saif Ali Khan ended his remarks to fans saying, "I'm going to go now. I just got off a 30-hour flight. I think I have to go and have a bath."

Asked Wednesday how long his flight was, actor and comedian Vir Das said, "it was 276 hours."And he was ready to relax. "Is there a beach around somewhere that I can hit?"

Travolta to receive recognition at awards

Along with walking the green carpet and attending Saturday night's awards, Hollywood star John Travolta will receive a special honor at the awards, organizers said Monday.

Based on his dancing, singing and acting in movies likeSaturday Night Fever, Pulp Fiction, Grease and Get Shorty,an IIFA news release described Travolta as the "most popular all-time international star in India." The awards show is being recorded for broadcast in June.

From one villain to the next

Actor Vivek Oberoi is nominated for an IIFA award for best performance in a negative role, but he was all smiles on the green carpet at Tampa International Airport on Monday. Asked what he was looking forward to, Oberoi said, "all of this," sweeping his hand toward the crowd, which whooped."We have a huge following here in America," he said, but face-to-face interaction is rare, so "this is nice. This is us finally getting to see each other." Oberoi said he has another bad-guy role coming up, having just voiced, in Hindi, Jamie Foxx's Electro character in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for its Indian release. Just as Indians love those kinds of U.S. movies, he hoped more Americans would take to Indian cinema.

"It's fun, and that's how it should be," he said. "Anything creative should have no boundaries or borders."

Wait right there Saifu, Bebola is arriving soon to pump energy I don't know why she didn't go with Saif. Is she shooting Singham 2? I saw her pics with Malaika leaving for IIFA at Mumbai Airport.

Fans pushing metal barriers, breaking properties forcing Police to swoop in to control rampage -- sounds scary. Deepika's got paagal fans in both virtual and real world. Florida not spared from them. 😆

I hope Deepika and rest of the crowd are safe.
