Being a proud Bengali myself I was initially pleased to hear that the new drama was to be set in a Bengali back drop. Oh my. how disappointed was I?! Don't get me wrong the drama itself seems ok-a take on us series revenge i think but so far entertaining, though I do find it hard to believe that a person would go out to seek revenge for a person they hardly know so I'm hoping that a closer reason is soon to be revealed. What is getting my bee in a bonnet is the lack of research in the Bengali culture and mannerisms by the shows producers. Apart from showing Howrah Bridge every now and then and Durga in the mandir its hardly reflective of Bengali culture. Hardly any odd Bengali word is spoken, the pronunciation of words has no reflection of Bengali, i.e Kangana would be pronounced Kongona, even when they are at home.Even the person who came to collect the money for the puja from Mr Goenka was unbelievable as a bengali.Bengali women wear saree's more than suits, especially affluent women, and where is Mrs Goenka's Shaka??
The Punjabi's and Madrasi's are reflected very well, shame they didn't do the same with the Bengali's
I am sure i am not the only Bengali person to notice this. I'd like to see some shorsha eilish.lol

im also attracted to this show as this story revolves around kolkata.but then they used "Goenka" title. As they really exists in Kolkata and are very big name they should not have use their title to show Goenkas as spoiled evil rich. thats only odd thing i felt.
but it cant be purely a bengali show.if they will use many of bengali words viewers may get confuse.so its fine to use some little words which r easy to catch up.

Me too a proud Bengali...
But its an Indian drama...so jyada expectations mat rakho...
Aur I don't think that Goenka's are bengali...wo log Kolkata mei rehte hai but they are not bengalis...
And this is true that agar jyada bengali words use karenge toh communication problem ho jayega...Yahaan pe sirf bengalis nahi aur log bhi ye show dekhte hain...toh woh log samaj nahi payenga...
Mujhe bhi thoda ajeeb laga tha at first...but practically it is a show...so leave it & enjoy it...😊

I know Bengali very well.

Nice one, I had asked my mom whether Goenka is a bengali title or not and she had denied...

I have many examples which start from Rajasthani or Punjabi culture and language but slowly they become flexible.

My Punjabi's not very good, so I can't understand extreme Punjabi but whenever it's mixed with Hindi then only I can understand..

But I was really happy to see Victoria Memorial n Howrah bridge 😃

Well, I agree with you that the makers dont research at all while conveying the Bengali culture but you may also know that Goenkas are not Bengali. So Kangana is not to be pronounce as Kongona and also Mrs. Goenka need not wear shaka or pola.( The white and red bangles married women wear in Bengali culture)
As for Bengali words are concerned, if it is one like the Devdas or something please spare the nonsense. The usual Bengali words woulld be sotti, oma , isssh and bas you are done. Its better they don't use it at all.

Converying Bengali culture is not easy. Its different from the other counterparts, like Punjabi or Rajasthani. Serials to chodo even films fail to put things nicely.

Actually being a South Indian I would have loved to see Bengali culture. It can be simple things like Bengali cuisine, Bengali way of dressing, Bengali way of celebrating certain festivals, Bengali jelwellery, dresses something that makes Bengal stand apart. I agree the protoganists all belong to high society but something more of Bengali would have been nice.
I mean in DABH we see quite a bit of Rajasthan culture. Whether Ganghor festival or food items like Bajre ki Roti or Dal Bhatti Churma, I learned quite a few things about Rajashtan watching DABH.
I mean when you watch a show it is nice to bring the diversity of culture as that is what India is all about.

I agree. It seems like the show is in Mumbai. There is no sign of bangla and Kolkata except for the police. In Tere Liye the bengali side was shown beautifully

There aren't many shows that do justice to cultures - all South Indians are not Madrasis - being a Malayalee from Delhi , I remember that my brother once got into a brawl when someone called him that! That happens a lot and much of it comes from this culture shown on TV shows and movies - be it Chennai Express or Yeh Hai Mohabbatein. Don't expect anything true or realistic.
Goenka is not a Bengali family name - not that I know of. Kolkata is a metropolitan city, much like Delhi. They don't necessarily have to speak in Bengali or follow the culture - I used to speak in Hindi at home but follow Nair customs for living and stuff.
