So glad you liked the film ILD!😃
Actually for me, it's Iqbal which has been Kuknoor's best movie and screenplay till date. I think what lakshmi lacked in some parts was the simple story and in some parts the screenplay wasn't that tight.

Anyways another good news! The movie is slowly winning awards to every film fest it is being sent 🥳

Nagesh Kukunoor's Lakshmi wins top prize at Reel World Film Festival

Still from Lakshmi

A still from Lakshmi

Nagesh Kukunoor's Lakshmi has won the Outstanding International Feature award at the Reel World Film Festival in Toronto. Sushrut Jain's Beyond All Boundaries took the award for Outstanding Documentary.

Lakshmi is the story of a 13 year old girl's struggle to survive after being kidnapped and sold for prostitution. The film released in India in March this year.

The Jury said, in its statement: "... a harrowing, uplifting and brave portrayal of a young girl sold into prostitution and what she endures. Its unflinching depiction of the reality of human trafficking was matched by an astonishing performance by Monali Thakur as the title character and writer-director and supporting actor Nagesh Kukunoor, who both led a note-perfect cast in Lakshmi."

Jain's Beyond All Boundaries captures the relationship India has with the game of cricket while telling the stories of three individuals. "This film was chosen by a unanimous juror decision. The plot uniquely tells the story not only of three lives, but also of India's relationship with cricket. The stories of each of the characters were in their own right interesting, while the interweaving of each of the tales added a complexity to the overarching narrative," the Jury noted.

Started in 2001, Reel Wold Film Festival screens features, documentaries, shorts and music videos.

SB didn't watch Iqbal yet (* embarrassed* hides face in shame😳)
Yes this isn't Kuknoor's best product, but I am glad this subject has been bought into lime light again.. I am a Law and Order SVU fan, they are the one's who do complete justice Sexual crimes...

Glad that its winning awards, they all deserve it 👏

SPOILER ALERT

Watched the film yesterday I will rate it 3.5 out of 5
One of the bravest film in hindi cinema ,I could not sit and continue watching it due to the visually gruesome and hard hitting scenes
For instance when lakshmi was first raped by Satish Kaushik, that scene was so tough to see, then few scenes of hers washing after her rape. The scene where madam jyoti was tortured with cigarette inside her private parts and when she cuts Nagesh's character's penis. They were too tough to see.In the court room where the footage was shown when she was raped by 7 men in the same night ,i could not continue for sometime. It was hard hitting and too gruesome, very violent .

ABOUT FILM MAKING
They captured the real brothel very realistically, not typical bollywood , you can actually feel them.
First half is full of her torture scenes,it would have been better if they would have shown something about her before entering this hell, that would have make people understand the innocence of Lakshmi more.
The climax scene was too good, when she adds powder before coming to the reporters to not show her tears.
Few scenes were too tough to watch.

Acting
All were pretty good ,Ram Kapoor,Satish Kaushik ,SHEFALI Chaya is brilliant, that girl who played Swarna. But It is Monali , whose performance stays with you.Simply the bravest and finest debut in long time .yrf, dharma heroines need to learn from her..The haunting folk songs featuring her good old memories stays with you for long

Kudos to Nagesh after Dor,Iqbal making such a real film and such a inspiration tale ..A must watch if you don't like escapist cinema
