Indian Idol 3 will start within a few days. How eagerly are you looking forward to it?
I will be out for my solo performances for a couple of days but whenever I will find the time; I will definitely watch the show. I was a part of the first series of this show and even today I am emotionally attached with this.
There has been a lot of saying about KBC 3 that it is missing the zing and its TRP rating is also falling down. Do you think that the Indian Idol 3 will be as successful as its earlier two series?
Yeah, it is true that KBC 3 did not have the same flavour as its first two seasons had. Though a super star like Shahrukh Khan was hosting KBC 3, but audience found something missing in it. But I don't think that Indian Idol 3 will meet the same fate. Rather I believe that Indian Idol 3 will be grander and more successful than its first two seasons.
On screen many times we see emotional moments and a lot of friendship among contestants. Are these true reflections of emotions or an act to take the TRP ratings up?
For days, the contestants live under one roof and practice together. In such scenario, it is very natural to get attached with each other emotionally. Though they are competitors, yet during the practice sessions you will find them correcting each other, sharing their opinions and giving suggestions to each other for improvement. So, whatever you see on the screen is not a synthetic picture. In fact they are the expressions of real feelings.
Do you believe that reality-based music shows help in bringing out the real talent?
No, not necessarily. If it is about bringing out the real talent, then it is not necessary that always the best talent will win. It is true that in a way these shows act as a booster for the career of the contestants and take them a couple of steps ahead in a one go, but at the same time these shows create a circle of tremendous expectations around them. But it actually takes a long time for a contestant to reach up to that level of expectation.
If I ask you to recollect the days you spent on the sets of Indian Idol, how will you describe the experience?
Those were the wonderful moments of my life. Early morning our manager Suraj used to bang on the doors and would make calls on our phones to wake us up. Then those practice hours used to be the fun filled moments. During the contest we visited various cities and fans gave us lot of love. I cherish each moment I spent with the team.
Without Indian Idol contest could you have achieved the same position, where you are today?
Don't know actually. May be, I would have been still struggling hard to become popular and dreaming about the position where I am today. Or may be I would have been doing far better than this. It is really very difficult to assume.
That means it is sure that you would have been into singing. What about acting in films and serials?
Yes I am sure that I would have been into singing even if Indian Idol did not happen to me. I am obviously interested in acting. But, not now. I don't want to do it for the sake of doing it. I would like to learn and develop my acting skills before I step into Bollywood. Until then, Rahul Vaidya is a playback singer.
The most debated question: choosing the talent on the basis of SMSs received. How do you view this method?
Wrong. Absolutely wrong. It's an uncertain way of choosing the talent. Perhaps it could be a right method from the organizer's point of view, but I personally do not like it at all.
What are your suggestions to the participants of Indian Idol 3?
You can't do much about the SMSs. Just concentrate on your skills. Show your best. Think positive and concentrate.
