The upcoming Cannes Film Festival in France will see a strong Indian presence.
It is just a coincidence that Cannes Film Festival moves into its 60th year when India is also celebrating its 60 years of independence. But one thing is certain: Indian presence at the popular film fest keeps increasing every year.
Aishwarya Rai,as we know, has become a regular face of the festival. Last year we saw Preity Zinta, Ajay Devgan, Karan Johar, Vivek Oberoiand Vishal Bhardwaj among the Bollywood celebrities at the fest.
This year it is going to be Shilpa Shetty (who is enjoying international fame after her Big Brother win) and Aishwarya Rai with her hubby Abhishek Bachchan. Hrithik Roshan, John Abraham and Bipasha Basu are also expected to visit Cannes this year.
India will inaugurate Tous les Cinmas du Monde programme, which is independent of the festival's official selection.
As many as seven Indian films will be showcased at the fest. They include Rajkumar Hirani's 'Lage Raho Munnabhai', Mani Ratnam's 'Guru' and Rituparno Ghosh's 'Dosar'.
Ghosh's 'The Last Lear' (starring Amitabh Bachchan ), and three films by UTV ('Jodha Akbar' ,'Goal' and 'Metro') will be promoted at the festival. Some stars or directors of these films are likely to attend the fest.
Michael Winterbottom's 'A Mighty Heart' starring Angelina Jolie, Dan Futterman and Irrfan Khan will also be screened at the fest (not in competition category).
The 60th Cannes film festival will kick off on May 16 and will conclude on May 27.
