😊

Hello Friends
today is World Poetry Day
Poetry reaffirms our common humanity by revealing to us that individuals, everywhere in the world, share the same questions and feelings.

Poetry is the mainstay of oral tradition and, over centuries, can communicate the innermost values of diverse cultures.

In celebrating World Poetry Day, March 21, UNESCO recognizes the unique ability of poetry to capture the creative spirit of the human mind.

One of the main objectives of the Day is to support linguistic diversity through poetic expression and to offer endangered languages the opportunity to be heard within their communities.

The observance of World Poetry Day is also meant to encourage a return to the oral tradition of poetry recitals, to promote the teaching of poetry, to restore a dialogue between poetry and the other arts such as theatre, dance, music and painting, and to support small publishers and create an attractive image of poetry in the media, so that the art of poetry will no longer be considered an outdated form of art, but one which enables society as a whole to regain and assert its identity.

21 March every year: Celebrating poetry and the power of language.

Manu ...a very good post !Poetry is my favourite subject right from my

student days !

On the occasion of World Poetry Day, the thought of choosing a World Poet Laureate or just a World Poet, who could be the conscience of our planet, is weighing on my mind!

Through medium of poetry we want to establish unity of human beings. Poets do not belong to a nation.

According to Rabindranath Tagore, every country is my country,"

World Poetry Day is on 21 March, and was declared by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1999. The purpose of the day is to promote the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry throughout the world and, as the UNESCO session declaring the day says, to "give fresh recognition and impetus to national, regional and international poetry movements"

Poetry is a form of literary art in which language is used for its aesthetic and evocative qualities in addition to, or in lieu of, its apparent meaning.

Poetry may be written independently, as discrete poems, or may occur in conjunction with other arts, as in poetic drama, hymns, lyrics, or prose poetry.

World Poetry Day , is an invitation to reflect on the power of language and the full development of each person's creative abilities. It also supports linguistic diversity through poetic expression and offers endangered languages the opportunity to be heard within their communities.

As a deep expression of the human mind and as a universal art, poetry is a tool for dialogue and rapprochement !!

Thanks for the post Manu. Poetry brings colour and highlight human emotions which straightaway makes inroad to the heart. Wordsworth Keats and Shelly are my favourite poet. My comment will be incomplete without the special mention of Lucy poems which is my all time favourite and has acquired a permanent seat in my heart. I love the opening lines of the poem -----
SHE dwelt among the untrodden ways
Beside the springs of Dove,
A Maid whom there were none to praise
And very few to love:
