Sanjay Leela Bhansali sure likes to keep his audiences on their toes. As he prepares for his next big project, rumours as to who will sign on his dotted line are in full swing and it looks like the list will keep growing. It has emerged that Priyanka Chopra is now favourite for leading lady in Bajirao Mastani'.
The film revolves around the true story of Peshwa Bajirao and his mistress Mastani. According to Times of India, the latest name to emerge as front-runner is Chopra, who is rumoured to be in the running to play Bajirao's first wife Kashibai, however, nothing has been confirmed.
It has been said that Salman Khan was the first choice to play the protagonist but when this didn't work out, the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Ajay Devgn were all said to have been in line for the part. Looks like it's another waiting game for all those film

While the confusion over the lead pair of Bajirao Mastani isn't over yet, it's heard that Priyanka Chopra is in the reckoning to play the second lead.

It seems Sanjay Leela Bhansali can't get enough of his Mary Kom biopic actress. Also the fact that Pee Cee agreed to glam up Ram-Leela when Aishwarya Rai decided not to do the item track is not lost on him. So when the director was looking for a powerhouse actress to play the second lead in Bajirao Mastani, he thought of none else but Priyanka.
Sources claim that Priyanka Chopra has agreed to essay Kashibai's character. It may not be the title role, but it is vital to the story. Confirming Priyanka's presence in Bhansali's dream project, a source tells a tabloid, "An important role if portrayed with an amazing performance will always have more weightage and appreciation than that of a lead role. So looking at PC's acting prowess, one can go beyond just the length of her role."

Earlier, the buzz was strong that Katrina Kaif may bag the role of Bajirao's wife Kashibai.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is all charged up to start his magnum opus that was planned almost 13 years ago but never took off for one reason for another. For the lead, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are rumoured to have been approached.
