A very nice observation actually.

Shows clearly that whatever he is doing is because of the situation and he does not hate her or enjoy torturing her.

Their conversation flowed so easily yesterday...and this statement of his is an indication that he admires the resolve and fierce loyalty and courage she has shown so far...he has had to do that much more in the face of that...!
