It's sad sometimes how lack of promotion can hurt a film's box office prospects before the film even releases.
On paper, BEWAKOOFIYAAN has a lot going in it's favour. Yash Raj Films banner, Ayushmann Khurrana (who made a very successful acting debut with the Super Hit VICKY DONOR, as well as proving to become a well-estalished singer), Sonam Kapoor who is coming off the success of RAANJHANA and BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG, and Rishi Kapoor.
But, things have come out quite differently! The theatrical trailer was released just about a month ago and even upon the release of the trailer, there has still been a lack of buzz around the film with hardly anyone talking about the film!
Indeed, it is quite shocking that what looked to be an at least somewhat big film on paper has such LOW buzz!
The songs have not really made an impact on the public in terms of appreciation.
Only Sonam Kapoor's Bikini scene has created buzz, as admitted by the director Nupur Asthana herself š: "It is disappointing that people are talking about it (bikini scene) only...the focus is on that"
Even this bikini scene won't be enough to save the film though!
The film will take a very poor opening. Opening will be slightly better at multiplexes and maybe in North India specifically as well but opening will still be poor though even at these places. The opening at single screens and mass-dominated areas will be disastrous as this is a multiplex film that already has lack of buzz and main hero who's big hit film (VICKY DONOR) was a multiplex film.
Even if the film finds appreciation by those who watch it, the collections will still be low throughout it's run due to lack of buzz and due to poor opening that will badly affect collections from the beginning. Also, Sunny Leone starrer RAGINI MMS 2 releases next week which will badly affect the collections of BEWAKOOFIYAAN as well.
Sonam Kapoor's presence will slightly help the film's overall collections as she is coming from two successful films (RANJHAANA and BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG) and her bikini scene in the film is creating some buzz but even she won't be enough to save the film.
My Box Office Predictions for BEWAKOOFIYAAN:
Opening Day: 3 crores net
Opening Weekend: 10+ crores net
Lifetime Collections: 20 crores net
Overall Box Office Verdict: Flop
