Mumbaicha Dabbawala
At a house, a lady is cooking when her phone rings. She's sad and says no one cares about her and her husband is always abusing her. She says she's about to do something that she should have done long ago and she will end this story. Then she hangs up. She looks at her food and then pulls a small bottle out of the fridge and packs the lunch. A dabbawala reaches the house and takes the lunch bag and leaves. The dabbawala meets other dabbawale and quickly gets on a train with many other dabbawale. He transfers the dabbe to another dabbawala here who delivers the blue bag the lady packed as well as a few others to a watchman. The watchman goes around and gives the dabbe to the correct people. The blue one is dropped off to a man and remembers his fighting with his wife. His name is Sanket. A couple of people invite him to eat, but he says he's not in the mood to eat. (Why did we waste like 10 minutes on this? I get showing the life of a dabbawala but you could have done it in less time as well.)
Later, after lunch, the colleagues here Sanket yell and go into his cabin to find him dead. CID is called. ACP sir, Daya, Sachin, and Nik are in the office investigating. ACP sir points out that the lips are blue and Daya points out that the nails are blue as well. They see only foam from the mouth and conclude that it is poisoning. Daya thinks that the poison was in the lunch. ACP sir and Daya ask the colleagues ask some questions. The colleagues say that Megha, Sanket's wife, made lunch at home and a dabbawala would bring the lunch. They also mention that Sanket wasn't happy with the marriage and they were always fighting. ACP sir, Daya, and Sachin go off to a side and ACP sir wonders if the fights were so big that a wife would kill her husband or if there was something else. (Thank you FW for not showing from the beginning that the wife is the culprit in CID's mind. Sometimes things are not always as they seem.)
ACP sir, Abhijeet, and Freddy reaches the lab to see Dr. Tarika working with a new assistant. After the regular FW showcasing, Abhijeet gets down to business with Dr. Salunkhe. Dr. Salunkhe tells the 3 that it is a new poison that killed Sanket and names something really long. (If I sat down to try and get the name write I would be here for a couple of weeks so let's just call it a new poison and leave it at that. 😆) The new assistant is introduced as Vaibhav. Then Megha comes in with Purvi and the team are shocked to see that she has many wounds on her face. ACP sir asks who hit her and she says to leave it because it always happens. ACP sir says that Sanket died after eating lunch and lightly explains how the poison reached the food. (I liked this scene. First some concern, then down to business. After all the wounds could be motive. And I also liked how ACP sir didn't outright say it but let Megha get to the conclusion.) Megha is shocked that they are blaming her and suggests that maybe the dabbawala did something, but ACP sir gets angry and says that the dabbawale have been doing this for 100s of years and deliver food everywhere. They can't be behind this because this is like their religion. She says that maybe someone paid him, but ACP sir gets even angrier and says that they would rather die than open someone's box. (Okay I get this is Mission Mumbai, but don't you think you're layering it on a bit too thick FW?) Megha says that she is sure Sanket was friendly with a girl at the office and tells them to go there and check. Freddy lightly suggests asking the dabbawale once.
At the railway station, the trio, Pankaj, and Nik meet with the dabbawale union and talk in Marathi. The dabbawale union are sure that no one between them did anything. The CID team ask carefully suggesting that maybe someone else mixed the poison when the dabbawala wasn't looking, but Kiran (I think he's the union head) says that this is impossible because as long as the lunch is with the dabbawala no one can get near it. (Another good scene. You don't want to go ahead and accuse. You just want to ask questions.) Kiran says that maybe the lady put the poison in the lunch. Abhijeet asks who took the tiffin from Megha and Rajneesh says that he took it and gave it to Pakya (Prakash) after getting off the train, but he didn't come back. ACP sir says that this is the link. Rajneesh tries Pakya in front of the 5, but the phone is switched off. He says that Pakya called a while back and was saying something like "dabba, bacha" but he couldn't hear properly. Abhijeet's phone rings and he is told that another murder happened in the same way. The dabbawale and CID team are shocked.
Back in the forensic lab, the wife is saying that her husband was so decent that he wouldn't kill so much as an ant. (Sorry hun, but we kill ants everyday as we walk. Unless your husband had X-ray vision and could see everywhere and step without killing an ant. 😆 FW please change this dialogue. Yeh ghisa pita dialogue 50s ke zaamne se chala aa raha hai.) She wants to know who fed him poison. Dr. Salunkhe says that he made a list of what was in the box, but she says she can tell them that and starts reciting ingredients. Dr. Salunkhe asks why she didn't name ginger, but she says that her husband is allergic to ginger so she never brings it. Dr. Salunkhe shows the sabzi and she says that this isn't her sabzi and then Dr. Salunkhe shows the plate and says that this sabzi is hers. Dr. Salunkhe checks the sabzi under a microscope for ginger. Shreya says then this means that this is a big plan and ACP sir says that someone knew what sabzi was being made. Shreya says that how are these 2 related. Abhijeet and ACP sir confirm that the dabbawale can't really know anything about this and it must have taken 2 - 3 minutes to do all this. At this time Tarika and Vaibhav enter. (I skipped this part. Don't mind huh.)
Back in the bureau, the watchman from the second office is being questioned. He says that he didn't do anything as he has been doing this for many months now. ACP sir lets him go. Sachin says that Sourav and Sanket were transferred to different branches and another man, Vikram, was transferred at the same time. Purvi says that maybe he's the next target and it'll probably be in the same way. ACP sir says that we need to find out if Vikram gets food from outside or from home.
Later, on the road, Abhijeet is dressed up as a dabbawala and is talking to Daya on the phone. He says he has collected all the boxes and is reaching the station. (Haye the handsome dabbawala. Where's the other handsome dabbawala? 😉) Abhijeet cycles to the station and stops in front of Daya and points out Vikram's box. Daya (the other handsome dabbawala) takes the box and gets on the train with Rajneesh and the large crates of dabbe. Daya and Rajneesh leave the station and grab cycles and leave together. It seems that Rajneesh knows who Daya is as they continue travelling together. Rajneesh leaves his cycle and delivers his boxes. Then Rajneesh takes Daya to deliver his boxes. Vikram's tiffin reaches him. Outside, Rajneesh asks if he found any problem in the middle and Daya then remembers that while he was waiting outside a child fell and he ran to check him. (Ugh. The murderer used a child for his/her means?!!) Rajneesh says how can a child reach here as there is no school or chawl nearby. Daya realizes that Vikram's life is in danger and runs into the building. Vikram is eating the food when Daya reaches inside. Vikram falls unconscious as Abhijeet also reaches there. (Err how did Abhijeet reach there? I would assume Qualis right? Then why not just take the Qualis?) Abhijeet stops a bike and says that they are in CID and need his bike for a while. (No badge, no checking, and the guy willingly gives his bike?) The two take Vikram to the hospital.
Abhijeet and Daya are waiting outside the operation theatre with Rajneesh. They've been there for 2 hours. Daya says that if anything happens to Vikram then he won't be able to forgive himself. Rajneesh says he isn't at fault. The doctor comes out and says that Vikram is fine now and should gain consciousness in a few hours. (Err if I remember correctly Dr. Salunkhe had said that this is a fast-acting poison. Yet somehow Vikram is saved?) Abhijeet says now we have to think about who changed the box. Daya says that the kid will answer this now.
Daya is sitting with the child in an ice cream shop. (Woah that was fast!) Daya asks him what he was doing there. The child says that his mother took him there and left him and went somewhere and she did the same thing at 2 other offices. Daya is sure that his mother is behind all this.
A lady rushes into an office demanding to meet a white car driver who has a dog on the back of his car. The man, another Sanket, comes out demanding to know why there is so much noise. The lady is yelling at Sanket saying that he committed the murders telling her to distract the dabbawala. She says that the police is behind her and she will tell everything to the police. Sanket tells her to get lost as he didn't do anything like this. The lady then says that she only saw the car and hand. ACP sir looks at Sanket's hand and finds that this is not the hand. ACP sir wonders who committed the murders then. Sanket says he knows who committed the murders.
Sanket enters a boardroom and slaps the guy, his son, sitting in the room. ACP sir, Daya, Sachin, and Nik appear in the doorway and the guy realizes what happened. He says that Sanket, Sourav, and Vikram were in a position where his dad belonged as he worked here for over 35 years. They had only come 6 months ago and had a MBA that's why they were promoted to the position. ACP sir says that you should have talked to your dad and should not have done this. Daya asks how he found out what Sourav's wife was making and says that Tanya was Sourav's wife's friend and so he asked her. He asks where Prakash is and the guy tells them.
Later, at the railway station, Pakya tells CID that he heard the lady talking on the phone about changing a box, but when he checked there was no one there. He called Rajneesh to tell him that a box was switched by a child, but because of the noise nothing was clear. Then Pakya got another call about a dabba and realized that he had been set up. ACP sir praises the dabbawale. Daya says sorry for suspecting them. Abhijeet thanks them for helping CID. The dabbawale salute the team for their work. (I just realized that the team shot with real dabbawale. I don't think they are all extras. I just think the main ones (Prakash, Rajneesh, and Kiran Rao) were the actors.)
This episode was really good. I liked how they incorporated the real dabbawale into the case. And the investigation and team distribution was good as well. Also the way they handled the sensitive parts of the episode was really well done. For the first time I feel like giving this episode a perfect 5, but there were a couple of things I had issues with so a 4.
