Our show is a complicated, intense love story. It is story of 2 individuals (Aastha-Shlok) who are complete opposite and how they understand their love for each other or fall in love.
The story also has some sensitive social causes intrinsically weaved in the story like domestic violence, female feotocide and women empowerment. Yesterday's epi showed some bitter stark reality of women in their families.
Most of us (including me 😳) are looking for a love story and looked it only from Shlok and Astha's perspective. Shlok who has become dumb from being a intelligent, shrewd, manipulative 😑and Astha who is sobbing all the time who is turning into sati-savitri types. I was one of them who ranted yesterday..
But later saw it again to understand what the director really wanted to show after reading some interpretations and analysis.
Waseem is really good at portraying parallels in his story. He showed some parallels and the irony of their situation.
1. Wife (Sojal, Astha) : who were not supported or accused by their husbands.
2. Daughter (Kavya): who is deprived of participating in sports.
3. MILs (Sulbha, Anjali) : who are mean to their DILs and grand daughters respectively.
4. Mother (Jyothi): who want to save her unborn girl baby
We also have Kalindi's perspective as a mother who is protective of her daughter who is not shown of course.

I was just doing some research on Waseem Sabir, an exceptional director with an eye for attention to detail and who loves to throw puzzles at his audience 😊.
His earlier works include Phir Subah Kab hogi and Maryada Lekin kab tak. Found on wiki that both these stories are very sensitive topics Phir Subah Hogi is based on a daughter of prostitute and Maryada Lekin kab tak is based on a rape victim.
Waseem should be applauded for his guts and bringing up this kind of harsh reality in front of audience that too on women's day. I hope he tells his story without diverting and a good resolution to the social cause he chose. I still think that the story is going haywire and the CV's need to get a grip on it. They should not dilute the main characters or basic story. It would be nice if see these resolutions are shown in a hatke manner instead of Aastha becoming a pativrata nari to resolve all the mysteries.

One more point, can we see it if it is only Shlok-Aastha story and his manhandling her or romancing her all the time?Even though I look for AShlok screen presence and their story, the other stories told are also good.
Also, the name of the show is apt for the show...it also shows different relations and where is love in them: My another post regarding that: https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/iss-pyaar-ko-kya-naam-doon-ek-baar-phir/3908410/so-close-yet-so-far-away

πŸ‘ Great post Jia ! I agree that Waseem is a wonderful director and his style of storytelling is very complex and forces the audience to think. This was reflected in the story until recently till the aditi track started. My biggest gripe is that the character of shlok which started out so beautifully and very complex has been reduced to being a brainless idiot. The mystery and charm surrounding his character is lost. So that should be the number one priority right now to salvage his character and the serial. Astha has always been shown to be bird brained, but some of her actions recently cannot even be attributed to that. The spunk and spirit that her character started out with is no longer there.
The other thing which bothers me is the lack of shlok's interest in Astha. This is a love story after all. So if there is no attraction how will love develop. The other track that has not been exploited is the Anjali NA track, which can run parallel to shlok and Asthas story, Even a 5 min appearance by NA takes the serial to another level. So I don't understand the judgement about not utilizing him efficiently.
Sorry I started ranting πŸ˜†

thanks Sandhya...I ranted yesterday and couple of days back tooπŸ˜†.. I guess we do that when we like something and it is not going the way it is supposed to be. . I am also not liking it since the Aditi track started. They have diverted their attention to Aditi rather than Aastha-Shlok.
Completely with you on Aastha-Shlok characters ...but we have to agree that Aastha is growing as mature and emotionally stronger than him. She should not be attached to Shlok anymore and I want her to give it back to Shlok. Yes, they should pay attention to the main protagonists even though they have good social cause to show us.
After reading some interpretations yesterday felt a little better. They do have a story to tell, but need to get a grip on it; currently it is in dragging mode.Let's hope they bounce back and turn the tables around for us ...that is all we can do...otherwise they will lose some loyal audience πŸ˜•

nice post jia. i started taking interest in the story only after waseem took over. i watched his maryada before and absolutely loved it though it was f**ked up after he left the show towards the end. i didn't know until recently that it was directed by him (😳i'm not proud of it ).

coming back to our show, i'm here for the love story but i also want the underlying social issues to be dealt with properly. its a tough job because if they show women being abused and the leads romancing in the same episode, people like me cannot appreciate either. it happened in one episode. they have to keep people's sensibilities in mind and not go for "shock factor" while dealing with abuse and foeticide because that will completely f**k up the love story. no deaths please unless it is swathi😊. deal these issues with a light hand but give proper solutions.

regarding the love story, please don't change the characters of shlok and aastha that we fell in love with. don't dumb down shlok, because, in future, he has to play against the manipulative and super-smart niranjan. don't make aastha a doormat, because she is not. her free spirit is supposed to encourage those 18th century agnihotri women to break free of those burdensome traditions. if she acts exactly like them, whats the purpose of her character?!

its a love story and i obviously love watching the leads(shouting-crying bouts occasionally okay but not always), but i also love watching niranjan-anjali, jyothi (not thrashing), varad-sojal-kavya family scenes, kirloskars and rani. i hope aditi goes to dubai soon. strangely, i like the actress(neha sargam). in spite of playing the negative character, she is endearing. she has a sweet smile and her acting is also good. but her character is really unnecessary.

Jia good post in bringing out the issues portrayed by the show...
true this is not just a love story...so how Astha Shlok are is one thing..
The bigger picture of the story is that of Agnihotri and Kirsloskers..how the ideals of these two families and now Jyoti's family clash.
Shlok is the representation of Agnihotris and Astha is that of Kirloskers. Therefore I would expect by now there would be some kind of peace or team building within Shlok and Astha as a married couple, to jointly resolve the gender based issues and control based issues that Agnihotris are facing.Astha as the one to bring her pure hearted ness and ethics, Shlok as the one to be her guide and protecter...only then they can bring changes to the Agni famliy.
But look at the logic right now..5 months have passed and yet Astha never witnesses any signs of physical violence that Anjali faces? In the same house? That my biggest grouse..why is Swati so important...many people have past relationships and do move on..its not like they were married or had kids. Swati story could have been told in a week or two, and have Shlok move to work with Astha on the issues his family faces. On top of that Aditi, her overtures and her sleepwalking. πŸ˜•
Now, if they show Ajinkya to be Kalindi's ex husband...then that would be something moving with original story line and I would understand why she is brought in.

Our grouse is not just with Ashlok, Shlok in itself is being portrayed as irresponsible brother to jyoti and son to Anjali. Its not that we are all waiting for Ashlok to confess love and go to a honeymoon...many viewers like me are not here for that. This is a intense love story with many sensitive issues to deal with. Some connection, feelings and chemistry between the couple should be there even if they do not confess...thats the whole point. Because that was the basis of the nexus between Agnihotris and Kirloskers, that is the basis of the relation between Avdhoot and Niranjan. If Shlok does not support Astha directly or indirectly, she cannot bring any change to the family.
Right now it seems Shlok himself does not know why he married Astha. Maybe he knows and he is hiding it from us😊. But at some point they should clarify that.

Also, Ashlok chemistry was the big thing that drew audience to the show...suddenly showing Shlok pining for Swati and telling Astha that she is kachra is a big shocker...Swati never figured after kolhapur..then why now. Sure there must be some histroy, but a Shlok who is still so emotionally attached to Swati..that was really abrupt and spoiled the track.
Also how many people switch it on to see Anjali orJyoti being abused. Other than watchers who are interested in women's empowerment. So when they showed abuse..now they need to start showing how to get out of it and how to help others.

Coming to the director, he is awesome the way he has handles the show..πŸ‘and his previous shows have handled sensitive issues ..but director can do only so much..the director does not decide the script or story. Its the story and screenplay that is wavering right now, infact the reason its still watchable is because of the director and actors!!.Maybe Aditi was brought because other actors like Avdhoot and Kalindi are on a break maybe...and because of 6 dys..but original track should not be changed.

We are not saying they should show Ashlok alone, they should explore the other central characters like NA-Anjali and give us Varad's story and kalindi 's influence on Astha etc. They showed Avdhoot and Ajji to be very trustful of Shlok, they should give us reasons for that.there were many episodes where there were minimal Ashlok scenes but Anjali NA Avdhoot and Kalindi hold the show !! There are many many threads in the show which are not answered as yet..then why dwell so much on Swati-Aditi is the question. If the show has to pick up these sensitive topics and do something, story has to come back to Astha and Shlok only. Astha right now is not even saying anything when Kayva 's trophy is not displayed in the hall.

Addi..basically more than ranting what I want to say is we know actors and director are very good...the disappointment is about
1)script and screenplay.
2)Too much secrecy around Shlok..and what his real thoughts are, dilution of his original self
3)Too much toned down AStha that she does not fight for herself or kavya...is knowing SWati and the past so important that AStha is willing to set aside her own principles?
4)and as a couple they are in totally different zones. How will they bring any changes here...? All
Shlok did since V day is be in Swatiland..and Astha is on a quest to know his truth. then the track has changed from original right? That the point.

Will be optimistic that this is a temporary lull and story will be back in full swing on right track soon.😊

That is right we are missing her free spirit. I used to think that Aastha should help Agni family...but now I think why should she bother ? she has her own problems to deal with. She should show them what are their problems and then she should break free out of this relation gracefully .One point I dont like is Varad and chacha think that she should solve the problem ...but why really?

its a love story and i obviously love watching the leads(shouting-crying bouts occasionally okay but not always), but i also love watching niranjan-anjali, jyothi (not thrashing), varad-sojal-kavya family scenes, kirloskars and rani. i hope aditi goes to dubai soon. strangely, i like the actress(neha sargam). in spite of playing the negative character, she is endearing. she has a sweet smile and her acting is also good. but her character is really unnecessary.
Same here..I love Astha-Shlok but their characters are dilutued or their essence is taken away...
Lets hope they bring it back soon instead of concentrating on this unnecessary track

Thnx Rekha. I like some points mentioned ...so wrote above in blue.

Jia, very good post. Unlike many shows, this show did raise a lot of expectations because the characterizations were so good, acting and direction was great and chemistry between leads and other characters is so great. The script did become loose. But as I wrote in Myra's thread, they seemed to have realized their blunder with Aditi track and the focus is being brought back to main characters. Lets hope that the script tighten and do justice to all other things that are working.
I have seen Maryada on and off and I saw few episodes of Phir Subah Hogi. Both shows had some good actors and both lost direction after Waseem. It was not only Waseem as I think even the story writers changed.

I have seen couple of shows of Spheres Origin and this PH is better than others in creating complex characters and maintaining that characterization for a long time despite ratings pressure.

Sandhya, agree about what you mentioned about Niranjan. Niranjan's is one of the best conceived characterization and Manish is a superb actor. So it is hard to understand why anybody would underutilize that character. To me, Niranjan and Anjali are as much of main characters as Astha/Shlok. Niranjan's presence - whether it is his interaction with Varad, Shlok and Anjali - just brings life to these scenes and the episode.

Rekha - I too do not have problem with the actor playing Aditi. But Aditi is not a central character and suddenly the focus on her while ignoring other main characters just made the story lose focus. Aditi can be shown as being brought by somebody, but she cannot be shown as the most clever, most evil person of the show, where leads are dumbed down or made passive to accommodate her. In last 2 episodes or so, they are again making her a side character and hope it continues that way.

About Anjali if her kids cannot figure out in these many years and Sojal cannot in all her years ..then how can Aastha find it? I am not surprised. About Ajikya..Kalindi ...I dont know πŸ˜•..
About Aditi...me too not liking it.This Aditi track is just diverting the whole track from Astha-Shlok..they should understand it

Our grouse is not just with Ashlok, Shlok in itself is being portrayed as irresponsible brother to jyoti and son to Anjali.
He was shown a caring brother to Jyothi and chacha to kavya ..now he doesnt bother about them any more..

Yes, we had that chemistry till Jungle track after that it was missing. She stayed for 5 months and still no vibes in his heart? How can he be so rude?

Right now it seems Shlok himself does not know why he married Astha. Maybe he knows and he is hiding it from us😊. But at some point they should clarify that.

Sure there must be some histroy, but a Shlok who is still so emotionally attached to Swati..that was really abrupt and spoiled the track.
That is absolutely true...we don't know why he married ..we all have our won theories...from last 4 months (ie., Vday to now as they said 5 months passed) he is in swathi land ...then how will issues get resolved in one month..I don't understand..Shlok is a true Devdas πŸ˜‰ ...he just wanted a chandramukhi so he got Aastha πŸ˜†

Also how many people switch it on to see Anjali orJyoti being abused. Other than watchers who are interested in women's empowerment. So when they showed abuse..now they need to start showing how to get out of it and how to help others.
They should atleast show Jyothi trying to get out of that torture cell instead of praying or calling her mom, Aastha.

Coming to the director, he is awesome the way he has handles the show..πŸ‘and his previous shows have handled sensitive issues ..but director can do only so much..the director does not decide the script or story. If not for Waseem I would have left watching the show by this time😊..still we can see that symbolic shots and meticulousness ..but script needs to be tightened yes. We like so much about this show which we raved about ..feel bad the story is dragging.

Yes, I want that spunky ,spirited Astha right back. So many looses ends and have to resolve them. Let's see if they want to solve Swati issue first and then go back to other ones, but Jyothi issue also needs to be solved ASAP.

Addi..basically more than ranting what I want to say is we know actors and director are very good...the disappointment is about

Wow ..you wrote a big reply 😊 Jalpari... its difficult to pick one line..so replied in blue. Right now I am in W&W mode..Let's hope they picked up the pace after they showed all the issues faced by women in the show ...may that is a start...We'll see, just hopeful and *crossing fingers*.
