IshMan FF:Love after Many Sights...Part 4
With everyone loaded...the drive to his daughter's fate began. But what occupied Raman's mind was the feeling that was tingling his senses even hours after he had hugged Ishita. Somewhere in the back seat Ishita too was still clinging on to those few seconds...his warmth still burnt her skin...she knew it had happened...she was too honest with herself to lie. She let her head fall back...Raman had touched her heart in ways not even Subu had done. "Really Ishita you should stop acting all possessive. I mean it was just plain cereals...and any kid can choke up you know. It might not be Shagun's fault..." Raman had left the sentence hanging in between on spotting Ishita's dagger looks. "Of course Shagun can never be wrong..." Ishita literally spat every word out and Raman sensed danger...Ishita going off the hook...meant ruining a day...she took hours to calm down. "It's not about Shagun..." Raman walked towards Ishita... "It's about you worrying yourself to death"...Raman frowned at the crease lines on her forehead and his light touch ran over them "You know that Ruhi is fine..." and Raman slid his fingers into hers and held up her hand... "in here" and held them on her heart which was trying to beat all records of speed... "Trust your maternal instinct." Ishita opened her mouth to argue maybe...though words might have ditched her but was saved again by Raman "Yes...you are Ruhi's mother...in every sense...more than ever Shagun or any other woman can ever be." The car jerked to a stop in a red light...and shook Ishita out of her remembrances. Did Raman ever mean her to be anything more than Ruhi's mother?
The loud honk shuddered Raman. What the hell was he doing...he was on the wheels with his family...and he had slid into thoughts...dreams...meaningless sensations. The sparkle in Ishita's eyes had burnt his eyes...the warmth of her skin was still heating him...the smell of her hair...the stroke of her touch...her body near his... "RAMAN..." his father hollered "maybe you should let me drive". Raman shook his head... No he could not be doing this to Ishita. He couldn't give her false hopes of love. No one was meant for him anymore. His love had left him empty and cold...broken his soul. He was a lonely road of broken dreams...a path whose destination he didn't know. How could he love again when he still couldn't stop loving the one that had hurt him so much? Yes Raman had accepted it...and the reason sat behind him. "You still love her." Ishita had simply stated it and Raman had been too quick to lie. "I don't love shagun...get it straight..." Raman had stopped with the sad smile on Ishita's face. She had never mentioned Shagun. "I still love Subu...and..." "What?? After what he did to you?? He wasn't man enough to keep his promise...he loved you...actually he faked love if you ask me. That spineless coward." Ishita's smile grew sweeter at Raman's indignation on her part. "But I still love him...and I will continue to do so...maybe till I find someone else to fill that void. But I keep searching for a bit of him in everyone...that bit which loved me...laughed with me...cared for me." "So basically you are a lost cause" Raman winked at her...and Ishita giggled like a blushing teen. "No...someday I will find someone with Subu's bit...and a bit more...so much more that love gets impersonated by him...someone with whom being in love will mean and feel much more than it ever was with Subu." And Ishita brushed Raman's hair off his forehead...and Raman caught her hand "That doesn't sound that tough." Ishita leaned on with a naughty smile "Try your luck."
"I don't know what comes now" said a visibly white Ishita as she entered the courtroom. "Don't worry," Raman whispered. "We'll figure something out." Ishita managed to smile at him. She liked that word we'...it sounded warm and open, like the hug...and as if on cue Raman grasped her hand...she did not respond, only clung harder to his hands, and he held her with all the afflictions of a man torn by love. In that one moment Raman felt he didn't care if ashok had every wealth if the world...if shagun spent every day & night with Ashok...did not care who won...if only it would end and he could be with Ruhi and...
The truth is rarely pure and never simple. Often, love is a tangled web of lies that only a broken heart would weave. Seldom is dishonesty the whole person, rather it's the pain.
