Plastic Surgery? How much is okay?

I'm sure a lot of people have heard that South Korea is a huge market for plastic surgeries today. Apparently, 1/5 women have had some type of procedure done compared to the 1/20 in America. It's crazy! In Bollywood, there is still some stigma associated with the surgeries - A lot of actresses blatantly deny getting it done even though it's very obvious. But in South Korea, celebrities discuss their treatments pretty openly.

The Miss Korea contestants looked startlingly similar.

India isn't that into plastic surgery as a culture yet. But Times of India reported that India comes in the top 5 nations for cosmetic and non-surgical procedures. Increasingly, we see actresses going under the knife for things like rhinoplasty or some kind of nose "fixing". And the demand for liposuction, hair transplant and breast augmentation has increased a lot. And of course, who hasn't done botox?

So do think cosmetic procedures are becoming increasingly common today? And someday we might hit what South Korea is like in India? Is the "taboo" element of surgery disappearing as more women (and men) jump on this bandwagon? And are you okay with procedures? To what extent? Would you get something "fixed" if you had the money?

I never understood why Plastic surgery is considered a taboo...As long as it does not create health problems or any other kind of problem in the long run ...it is fine IMP...If someone has extra money and they want to change something that would make them look better...then why not...it is a matter a choice...especially for the movie stars where your career often depends on how u look...then its a method of not only improving your looks but ur career...

Its like...if I work as a Computer Programmer and my Boss tells me that to be promoted I need to do a certification...wouldn't I do it to improve my career??

In BW their faces and bodies can make or break their careers...so why not?? Just get it done from someone good so that you don't end up like Koena Mitra...that girl was unfortunate.. 🤔

India is a poor country where 1 in 5 women do not have enough to eat. So when people publish these articles it's just quite ridiculous.1 in 5 women in India having undergone plastic surgery is a wrong statistic without even having to add further proof. 1 in 5 women in India having undergone any form of surgery such as a c section I can believe.

But how I wish we rather have our actors "act" than look good...

I have never seen the point of plastic surgery, but if someone's so crazy to do it go ahead. IMO it's basically telling people that natural beauty is crap.

I don't think it's exactly 'okay', but if it makes people feel better about themselves, then why not?

The truth is, these girls think they'll be promised happiness, confidence, self-esteem, and an overall better life if they get PS. Plastic surgery isn't selling psychotherapy or meditation lessons.

I think we need to look deeper and ask why women hate their bodies and faces so much that they are prepared to spend a fortune, suffer pain, and take serious risks in going under the knife. Girls are being bombarded by the media with a narrow definition of beauty which the vast majority of them can never attain.

Honestly, if they are utterly depressed about their body (or if they have scars and etc) then go for it, but most of the time it doesn't provide the correct results. Anyways, it's up to them to decide but I personally wouldn't do it.

Plastic surgery is a boon for ppl with deformities. As for cosmetic enhancement,it alright if done in moderation. Most of the cases, the person is so insecure that they are never satisfied with the outcome and keep on tweaking their face/body which just leaves them looking grotesque. As long as its done in moderation, it isn't bad at all. Its your body ,its your money, do as you please. Though when you are a public figure, they should be able to take the criticism regarding that too.

I just read an article yesterday where a beautiful Korean journo had a terrible jaw surgery and now looks comical.

As much as you can afford. Honestly, no matter how much we sing the raga of "natural beauty" artifice is in our lives always. For every cosmetic, anything we do with our bodies to enhance the looks, is artifice. Using makeup to make your nose or lips or anything else, big or small, or using surgery, what's the difference. In few countries, it's a problem, where women are so obsessive that they dont mind taking loans and all...but in India, I dont think its the case.

Its ok for people with deformities, but I don't understand it otherwise.
That sort of body image is just not good. I don't think you can ever be happy that way.
Especially in the modelling and acting field, you will constantly find people criticizing some or other body part., too fat, too thin, nose too big, lips too thin, boobs too small, its endless. You can't go fix something every time someone comments.
All actresses look the same now both on TV and in films. Every other actress gets cheek implants, and chin augmentation along with breast implants.
Plus they all starve themselves and start looking like bobble heads.🥱
What's the beauty in everyone looking the same.

The problem arises when it becomes an addiction or some one has body dysmorphic disorder. I think Korean girls really need help (Psychiatric).
For e.g. Rakhi Sawant, she is an addict and she needs intervention.

I don't believe in plastic surgery.. I remember Nimrat Kaur saying in an interview how someone in the industry told her she " needs to fix something on her face " and get surgery. This means that it's an industry insider thing, they're sometimes told about their so called "flaws" which is so unprofessional. I think in times like these when celebs are facing insecurity, celebs should remember that they have MILLIONS of fans who think they're gorgeous just how they are. We're so ungrateful in life about things in general, we forget that one day, our physical appearance will leave us, it's a superficial world, we often forget. That's my personal opinion on it. However what someone chooses to do with their money and time is none of my business. Live and let live. 😊
