Chapter 30
Both had a hard time. Maan had twice as much to do because KC was losing clients and Geet had twice as much to do because they had more clients than they could deal with. Maan had to constantly fight his feelings for Geet. He loved her he was sure of that but she proved to be a tough competition in business. Yet he set his mind not to mix his personal feelings with his professional ones. The time he didn't work he thought about ways to tell Geet about his feelings. There were many risks doing that. She could reject him or even worse stop talking to him. What he feared most though was that she misunderstood him and concluded he was trying to use her for his professional reasons.
Geet had started to love her work. Now that she was fully independent she managed a lot in a short time. Adi and Vicky had often complaint to her in a non-serious way that they could not keep up.
Even Geet thought quite a lot about Maan. The pity she had felt for him was now gone and his words kept ringing in her ears. Her brain often told her that he was angry and annoyed and that was just like Maan Singh Khurana was but she fought that thought. He might be a rich, influential and important person but he had no right to hurt someone's feelings.
All she wanted was to do her best. She was doing it and she could see her success already. KC was going down. The news papers and media were full of the news but she paid little attention to that. Vicky had returned home on his Dadi's request and he told her in short how his family were struggling to keep up with her. Vicky was very impartial, both Geet and his family had to learn that. While Geet listened to his accounts on the downfall of KC with professional interest, his family were taking everything very personally.
One day, the entire Khurana family was collected in the study. They were tensed, especially Maan.
All his efforts of bringing back KC to the top had failed so far and he could not put his finger on the actual problem.
"I have no idea what to do now." Maan admitted to his family. This tensed them even more. If Maan didn't see a way out, then who did?
"Do you think Vicky should..." his mother started.
"Keep Vicky out of this. I do not want to show Geet that I am a coward that has to ask my brother to take help from her." Maan replied quickly.
"Divya meant that he could give his professional opinion on this matter, after all he is Executive MD. Forget for a minute that he works for MC but just think he has enough ideas to help us. Don't forget that he has a big hand in MC's success." Dadi looked at her son who had been quiet all the time. Maan was going to object but his father spoke.
"Call Vicky. Maa is right; we are interested in his professional opinion and not his personal ones. Anyways we know he won't hear a word against MC or Geet. Just remember what happened last time."
Vicky wondered why hid family had called him. He had politely left every time there was a talk on KC and no one had stopped him.
"Vicky, you know KC is having a bad time now. We want to hear your professional opinion on this." Vicky raised his brow.
"What opinion can I give? Isn't it clear that this is the result of that party?" Maan clenched his jaw.
"We mean what can we do to get out of this mess again beta" Divya said. Vicky ran his fingers through his hair.
"Well, if my professional opinion is asked than I will not answer. I cannot forget I work for a rival company. Yes, as being a Khurana I can give you my personal opinion. I have worked in KC for long enough to know that it is not a company worth working in. If you are career orientated then KC USED to be the best place but now... If you are simply interested in a regular income and a nine to five job then any other company, forget about MC, would be much better." He waited a moment for his family to take in what he had said.
"The question is why? What is wrong with working in KC?" his father asked.
Vicky directly looked at Maan.
"I could list a hundred and one things at this point but to be honest the biggest problem is Maan bhai." Maan stood up in anger.
"And what is that suppose to mean? Don't forget that I am responsible that KC has reached such heights in the first place and was number one till MC came and ruined it all."
"MC didn't ruin it bhai, but you are overlooking the obvious. There are things that you have to consider which you conveniently ignored till now..."
"Like what?" Maan cut him off.
"Tell me, what does Geet have that I don't?" This is just what Vicky wanted to avoid.
"A lot of things. Firstly she never fails to admit that she has made a mistake which can't be said about you. When was the last time you corrected a mistake instead of firing an employee? Don't forget that many of your former employee's work for MC now and are doing a brilliant job. How come they didn't do that when they worked for you?" Vicky left because Maan's face made it clear that this discussion will end in a big fight.
That evening Maan was awake and thinking about Vicky's words. He felt enraged not because Vicky said his opinion openly but because somehow he knew his brother was right. He had been the big bully that ran over everyone to get to the top. It had worked but he forgot that he had set the ladder on fire on which he was climbing. KC was losing employees very fast now. KC had lost its charm, all because of his mistake, all because of Geet. He calmed down again. Geet. He wondered how that woman that was causing him so many difficulties could have such a special place in his heart. He pondered again about how to make Gee realise his feelings and Vicky's words came into his mind. He got up at once, this was a way.
