Hey Ronit
Once in a while the devil in makes an appearance and I have to make mischief !!!! 😆😆As soon as MS decided to go forth with the temple it was inevitable that SugVi would be back in Mawari and will have to face their checkered past. Its soo nice to see the bond Shanti has with all of the family. The way she climbs on TVS's lap at every opportunity and gets him to do things leaves no doubt she is a daddy's girl and has TVSwrapped around her little finger.- soo cute😃I just hope that Vijay Singh😡 does not hurt Shanti in the process of hurting/destroying TVS and now of course Sugni as well.Sugni should have been prepared for the bitching comments. I just hope that we see a controlled version of the Sugni we saw at the beginning of the show when she use to say things like at the mela that made people uncomfortable because they did not like the truth and generally the feisty girl who stood up for herself.

CHAPTER 38
Deciding to take her mother in laws advice, Sugni turned a blind eye and deaf ear to the remarks of the small group in the back. With her head held high , she smiled sweetly and greeted every one she was introduced to politely.
However it was a great relief when she came back home. She was not looking forward to doing this again the next day at all, and part of her wondered if she could make some kind of excuse to stay at home.
As she and Amtira were preparing dinner, Amrita she noticed was passing strange looks her way.
"Sugni...?" She finally said
"Hmmm?'
"Can I ask you something...I mean if you don't want to answer it it is ok..." She said seriously.
"What is it Amu? You can ask me anything."
After looking at her for a while , Amrita finally said. " Today at the temple, those women behind us...they were talking about you weren't they?" She asked.
Sugni looked at Amrita surprised that she herd them, but off course she would as she was standing right next to her. Sugni nodded, looking at the vegetables she was chopping.
"I am sorry..." Amrita said
"Why are you sorry. You did not do anything." Sugni said
" I should have, I should have given them a piece of my mind and tell them to mind ther own bloody business." She said fiercely. "They are disgusting!'
"Amrita...that is the norm around here, and you know bedni's are not allowed in the temple I am sure it was probably offensive to a lot of them who remember ..." She faded
Oh please that is bullshit!" Amrita said. "but you handled yourself well...I don't think I could have just stood ther quietly."
Sugni shook her head. "I was not there to call attention to myself, I was there to support Maaji, and I know she did not want any drama." The only reason Maa Thakur agreed to go was because the Thakurine that invited her was one of her close friends back in the day and she did not have the heart to refuse her.
"I know ..but it did bother you...I could see it." she said
"Well sometimes the truth is not always sweet or easy to hear." She said sadly. And they were speaking the truth." She said.
Amrita looked at Sugni, she lived a privileged life very sheltered, but Sugni she lived life here from the bottom, and struggled to get out of here. That was not easy.
"Sugni...listen you know we can't change the past and every one of us makes mistakes...but we lern from them. And you...you strove so hard to get past that. And in my book that is something to be proud of." She said as she touched her shoulder.
"Thanks Amrita..." She smiled as she hugged her lightly. She was right, she would not allow the few words of some people she did not know affect her.
The next day again they went to the temple, this time all off them together. There were a few of the Thakurs there that she recognized but she did not see him. That was a relief as well. Not that that was a surprise this type of gathering was not Vijay Singhs type. Maa Thakur was greeted by Thakurine Kavi her old friend and they spent a few minutes chit chatting. Sugni observed that Maa Thakur seemed to enjoy spending time with her.
They all took a seat as the pundit began his Katha, speaking on the values of families that pray together. After he was done he requested one couple from each family to come up and make offerings on behalf of their family.
Finally it was their turn .
"Who is going to lead the puja?" the pundit asked observing the six of them.
"Umm...Panditji...My eldest son Vickram and my daughter in law would do it." Maa Thakur said. The pundit smiled politely as they stepped forward.
Before they could start however there was a commotion as the lady from yesterday came to the front.
"One minute...I am sorry punditji...but this is wrong...you can't decimate this temple like this. Inviting a Bedni into the temple is one thing...but to have one participate in the sacred ritual that is unheard of...Raam raam raam! If that is the case we should just call them from the streets.!" She said loudly drawing attention from the rest of them.
There were several gasps and murmurs of the people gathered around.
"Excuse me?" Maa Thakur said as she looked at the Thakurine. "Sugni is my daughter in law ...she is Married to Vickram and a Thakurine and has every right to be here..."
"Oh Please...we know who she is...you think we forgot...her Sardakhi ceremony made history..."
"I agree..." chirped in another thakur. "This is a Thakur's mandir...and whether she is married to one or not...dose not change what she is by birth...a bedni!"
Vickram was about to speak when Sugni stopped him. "It's Ok Maaji...Adi and Amrita can do it...it's the same thing na..." She said softly
"No it's not.!'" Maa Thakur said. "Vickram lets go..." She said as she turned to leave as he nodded. She looked at him silently telling him she did not want a scene.
"Wait!..." Thakurine Kavi said. "You can't leave like this...the Puja...Please." She said
Vickram laughed . "What puja?...I am sorry Thakurine ji...The only reason we are here is because you invited us to participate. And being an old friend of Maa's she did not want to disappoint you. But we did not come here to be insulted. So it would be best if we just left" he said.
He turned to the Pundit who was standing there silent. "Pundit ji can I ask you something?"
He nodded. "God is one for every one is'nt that what you say? Yet I am standing in a temple that belongs to only Thakurs...and Thakurines that too of pure blood.! Kamal hain...you and your prayers for peace and good family life and yet...only certain people are allowed in this hypocritical world. It's ok to insult some one and laugh at them because they are "lower" than you. Yet some people don't look at what is going on in ther own houses. When Husbands go missing..hmmm" He looked around at as some of the Thakurines bent theyir heads as his words hit them.
"I am sorry folks..." He said as he clasped his hands. "did not mean to spoil this occasion...you all carry on..." He made to leave.
"Gohavari...please...I am really sorry..." Kavi said. "Thakurine Soroj is just bitter because she was not chosen to organize this this year..and she is taking it out by being a spectacle. You are my guest and you know I would never ever intentionally embarrass or insult you." She said genueinly. " Our guest are like Gods...and If you walk out...this function will feel tainted for me...I am begging you please don't leave here angry." She pleaded.
"No don't" Maa Thakur said looking at her friend. She knew that she was not behind this. "but we did not come here to offend any one...and..."
"And ...if any one else has a problem they can leave." Kavi said sending daggers to Soroj. Obviously the two women did not see eye to eye. "Please...Vickram Sugni...Please." She turned to them.
Vickram looked at his mother who nodded slightly ok. He held out his hand to Sugni , she looked at it , and glanced at every one who was looking at them. So much for not creating a scene. Feeling much like dejavu...she placed her hand in his as they turned back to the alter , where they sat as they began the small Puja.
Sugni stood infront the mirror of her room, thinking about the events of today. Try as she might to ignore it, it felt as though she had not left here at all. She was just the bedni that was causing a stir. Things did not change here much.
"Hey..." Sugni was startled out of her thoughts by Vickram who entered the room.
"Hey...is she asleep..'
"Hmm knocked right out." He said coming to stand behind her.
"Sugni..." he said.As he unclasped the necklace she was wearing and removed it.
"Hmm?"
"You are still thinking about it aren't you?' He removed her earrings one at a time and placed it on the dresser .
She shook her head . "No . No...I am not." She denied, trying to smile brightly but somehow failing. Vickram sighed as he took her hand and lead her to the bed.
"I know you are it is written all over your face, you've been quite and lost in thought since we got home. You knew they were going to talk...hmmm?" He said.
"I know ...I thought I was prepared for it ...but..." He took her hand as he began removing the bangles .
"but it still bothered you hmm? Don't let it Sugni...if it's two things you can't stop around here is the wnd and gossip...if you let everything every idiot has to say you'll never leave this house will you? And that is not the Sugni I know. The Sugni I know would have told that lady to take her principles and shove it...". He said as holding her now empty hands.
She laughed. "I know ...but I know Maaji would not like that, and a temple is not a place for that... You did it a whole lot better than I would." She smiled.
"Well a bunch of hypocrites are what they are...and I really coul'nt be bothered by them..." He said. Sugni looked at him. He looked calm and cool. Unaffected by it all.
"How do you do that?" She asked . "I mean...I hear what you are saying...and you try to ignore it...but it's not that easy sometimes." She said. "Especially when you can't deny it ..." She faded, looking down at their hands.
"Hey...Sugni..." He said as he lifted her head to look at him. "Of course you can't deny it...nor can you let it control you. See people are going to talk whether you like it or not. All that should matter to you is that we love you, and you are a part of this family. And no matter what people have to say about our past...I frankly don't care. That being said...I will not just stand and let them say what they will as I will give them an appropriate answer, because if you don't stand up for yourself then you are just a door mat. And you are not that are you?" He asked
She shook her head.
"Good. Now will you stop letting It bother you, cause I promise you you are going to hear more of that..." She nodded. Taking a deep breath.
"I will. I will not let it bother me anymore. Nor will I be quite about it." She declared . He was right, why should she let what they say bother her. She was married , she had a family and husband that loved her with her past and all. That was all that mattered.
She thought again, about how lucky she was to have him in her life. Again today he stood up for her in front of them all, and now here he was trying to make her feel better knowing how she felt. It was her turn here to support him...and this was not the start she wanted. From now on she would face every one head on.
"That is better." He said. He undid the pin on her saree as he began removing it from her shoulders , bringing Sugni out of her thoughts.
"HEY!! What are you doing?" placing her hand on top his before he could remove it.
"Helping you get out of these uncomfortable clothes..." He said innocently. Trying to look nonchalant but failing as her face was red.
Thank you but I can handle this..." She said.
"I know but...why go through all that trouble...hmm" he said removing her hand. And the veil as he moved closer to her.
"Vickram..."
"Hmmm" . he placed his arms around her.
"You are impossible..." She said
"No I am not...all I am trying to do is ..." He kissed her neck.
"I know what you are trying to do Thakur Saab..." She giggled.
"And you know what...it's not working." She said
"Ohh? I think it is..." He continued .
"Hmmm"
"Well maybe..." He said as he wrapped her arms around him kissing him back. As they both lay on the bed.
"Vickram...?"
"Hmmm..."
you're the best husband ...really..." She said.
"Really?"
"Yep..." She said as she caressed his nose with hers
"Well thanks for the compliment." He joked as she laughed.
"I mean it..." She said seriously looking at him. "You always make me feel better , no matter what." There stared at each other for a few moments. As she leaned forward to kiss him, saying without words just how much he meant to her.
