CHAPTER 22
Sugni rang the doorbell the next day waiting for the door to open. She felt a bit nervous, but this time it was a happy feeling. After Maa Thakur gave her, her blessing last night it was as though a weight had been lifted over them.
Vickram was even more happy now, he could not stop smiling on the way home, especially after Maa Thakur invited Sugni and Shanti for lunch today, a further indication that she was indeed making the effort to meet Sugni half way.
So here, she was for her lunch date. The door was opened by Amrita who as usual greeted her with a smile and a hug.
"Amrita what are you doing here ? No work today?" She asked
"Who has time to work... I have a wedding to plan, So I took the rest of the week off, thankfully I know the boss." She winked. Sugni laughed. "I was just waitng for you ladies to show up so I can take this little one with me!'
"Shanti? Why?" She asked confused.
"Well we already got your outfit, it's time for hers and I need her help with something special...you'll help me na Shanti?" She nodded excitedly. "Besides it will give you and Maa Thakur time to bond." She said seriously. Looking at Sugni's face she said.
"Don't you dare start to complaining...about it being too much... Now...lets go meet Naani ma!!!" She said as they went into the living room. Maa Thkur was sitting in the living room having a cup of tea.
"Hello Sugni..." She said as Sugni made her way to her and touched her feet, followed by Shanti.
"Bless you." She smiled... "Would you like some tea?" She asked
No it is Ok...I am fine for now." Sugni said. "How are you maaji?"
"I am good...a"and you?"
"We are good." Sugni smiled as she took a seat opposite Maa Thakur.
"UM Naani...I'll be going now...lots to do...Sugni we should be back in a couple of hours...don't worry she will be fine." Amrita said as she retrieved her purse and took Shanti's hand.
"Shanti...be a good girl...and you listen to her...alright?" Sugni said
"Yes mummy." She said dutifully as she waved them good buy and left excited about going out.
"I see you have trained her well..." Maa Thakur said as after they left. "She already has every one falling for her! Aditya, Vickram , Amrita!" She said. Sugni frowned at the tone. If she did not know better it sounded very condescending.
Chastising her for reading too much in a simple comment Sugni smiled.
"She is sweet and she loves all of them."
"Of course she would...I mean what is not to love...right?" She said. Sugni nodded. The feeling that she was there was more to the words growing but she quelled it.
"Shall we have lunch..." Maa Thakur said after a while as they went into the dining room.
Sugni looked at the lavish spread that was on the table. Different dishes that looked as though it was a restaurant buffet.
"Are we expecting more people?" She asked that was a lot of food for just the two of them.
"Oh no no ..it's just us..."
"Ohh Maaji this is too much..." she said
"Well it is a special occasion, no?" She was looking at Sugni seriously.
Sugni nodded as she sat and they began their meal. Again Lunch was a strained affair, Sugni tried to make small talk but it was difficult with the other party basically ignoring you.
"So are you all prepared for the wedding?" Maa Thakur asked as they finished their meal.
"mmm...well there is not much to do...Amrita is seeing about all the details...I am just going with her flow really." She said. Maybe she just did not like to eat and talk!
Maa Thakur nodded and smiled slightly as though she was telling herself something. "Of course , of course." She said.
"Maaji...I know this has not been easy...but I am happy that you have at least given us your blessing. And I promise...I..."
"Ohh...no no Sugni...please don't go under some false impression that I gave you any blessings." She said.
"Excuse me?" Sugni said taken aback by her tone.
"You really think that I would accept you this easily, forgive and forget ?" She said. "No no no ...Sugni..What ever I did I did it because I was not going to loose my son. And I know if I oppose to this now I would. See You have Vickram wrapped around your finger so tightly, he would leave us for you!" She said a bit angrily.
"Maaji...Wha..." Sugni stopped when she raised her hand.
"What did you think...I invited you to lunch so we can catch up? No no no my dear...I invited you here so we can get somethings straight." She said as she moved to sit in the hall , looking at Sugni as though she was a queen in her domain and Sugni was nothing but a common subject accused of a crime.
"I have to admit Sugni...you have your claws so deeply embedded into him, he can't see past you he even blindly accepted the child. Not only him but Amrita and Adi as well I see has fallen under your innocent face and sob story. I however won't be fooled...I know you...you are nothing but an opportunist who is here because admit it why would you pass up this golden opportunity right?"
"No...Maaji...it's nothing...' Shocked at the bitterness that she was hearing.
"oh please , don't...I may go along with this wedding only because Vickram for some reason can't get over you...But no one knows what it was to watch your son...wilt away in this time...all because of you...So fine...as long as he is happy, I can tolerate you. But be warned I am watching you...and the day you hurt him Sugni...there will be no one worse than me in your life. Remember that!!!"
"Maaji...please...I love him...I know I have hurt him before but all that is in the past...I'll never do.."
"Past? Past...I am sorry but I can't forget that...my Son went begging...begging that man...for you...and you?...because of you he was turned into a laughing stock in front of all the Thakurs...You humiliated him...and now you are back with that child...and expect me to overlook that...I am not that crazy!' She said as Sugni stared at her stunned.
"Any ways ...for the real reason you are here, which was not lunch...come with me..." She said as she got up and walked up the steps as Sugni turned and followed her.
The entered Maa Thakur bedroom where Sugni stood in the the corner Maa Thakur went over to her desk and pulled out some papers.
"So...you say you love him? ...And he means everything to you? All that matters to you is him right?" She said.
"Yes! " Sugni said. "Maaji I know you have no reason to believe me...but Vickram is everything to me apart form my daughter. I know I could never make up for the hurt I caused him...but I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to him. His happiness means the world to me." She said tearfully.
"Impressive words from you, but see he also means everything to me to ...and I will do all I can to protect him. ... ...so I guess...you will have no problems signing this...will you. Since you love him so much?." She said looking at her shrewdly.
What is that?" Sugni asked looking at the papers in her hand.
Ever herd of a pre-nuptial agreement?" Sugni shook her head. "Well it is usually an agreement signed by the couple to be to protect their assets, wealth property in case of a divorce ect. Now this is like that except a little different. It is a document stating that should your marriage with Vickram not work you will have no claims to any property, business money or any such things this family has, except of course whatever alimony that is acceptable for you should he so see fit to give you. That you have no claims for either you or your child should you separate from my son. Unless there are blood children are involved. In short Sugni...it is to secure everything this family has worked hard for from any ill intentions you might have.!" She said laying it on the table as she held out a pen to Sugni.
Sugni looked at Maa Thakur as she realized she was just called a gold digger by her future mother in law. And the realization that she must really hate her.
"What's the matter...won't you sign it.?" She asked.
Sugni closed her eyes and took a deep breath as she smiled. She nodded. As she took the pen and signed where was indicated. She handed it back to Ma Thakur with out hesitation.
"Don't you want to read it?" She asked. Sugni shook her head.
"No...What ever you wrote in there I agree to it...cause I am not here to make claims on anything that is not mine. I love Vickram..Maaji and I plan on spending the rest of my life serving him...and if one day, god forbid he does not want me any more...I'll leave with no opposition. That I promise you. I am coming here with nothing but my daughter and I'll leave the same way." She said
"Hmmm..." Maa Thakur said looking at her, as she put the papers away. Going to the closet she pulled out another box. As she stood in front of Sugni.
"I hope so...one more thing...this conversation is between me and you...and I hope I stays this way." She said. Unknowingly putting a bomb in Sugni's hands by telling her Vickram knew nothing of this.
"I know." She said. Amrita was right Sugni thought, this was her fire test,whether she would pass it or not was up to her. She was confident that she would one day.
"Believe it or not Sugni...if you prove me wrong...I would love nothing more than that...but I don't think you will. " She Sighed. "So for the sake of my son...we will be cordial ...but don't think for a minute that I am not watching you!" She said. Sugni nodded, not sure how she should respond to that.
"Anyways...This is jewelry that is to be worn on Friday...Traditionally it is supposed to come from the grooms side as a gift, since you already have the outfit ...the accessories are from me...I expect them to be returned soon after ...understood.!"
"Yes Ma'am" Sugni said. As she accepted the box. "Thank you!" She said.
Maa Thakur turned and walked out of the room leaving Sugni to follow behind her.
They returned downstairs hearing voices from the living room. Amrita, Shanti and Vickram were sitting there having a conversation . They all turned when they herd them coming down the stars.
"Vickram...you home early!" Maa Thakur said.
"Yeah...I uh...wanted to see how..." He looked at Sugni who pasted a bright smile on her face.
"Hmmm ...you could not say away na...!"She laughed as she looked at him. She know he was surprised as well by his mothers unexpected lunch invitation yesterday. .
"How was lunch?" he asked. Ignoring her look..
"Lunch was good and there is lots of food on the table you should go eat.!" Maa Thakur said .
"Hey Shanti you are back...!"Sugni said.
"Yes mummy I got a princess dress and then Didi and I went to get you your surprise...you are going to..."
"Shhh...Shanti it's a surprise until the wedding can't tell them...you promised na..." Amrita said.
"OOOPS!" She said as she closed her mouth, and opened her eyes wide and nodded. She looked so adorable they all laughed...

"Is everything alright?" Vickram asked later that evening as they were sitting in her apartment. cuddling on the couch. As usual Shanti was asleep ...shortly after he arrived he dropped her home when she said she had lots to do and could not stay for dinner. Truth was she wanted a little while to process what just happened.
Somehow she had thought that Maa Thakur was willing to accept her and had fooled herself into thinking now she had a complete family...another part of her was saying she should not have been surprised but still being called a gold digger stung .
"Hmm yeah why?" She asked.
"I don't know...you seem a bit lost." He said. Ever since he got home after lunch he was observing Sugni wondering how it went. She seemed happy laughing and joking with Amrita who was busy with her planning, but on occasion she would just get lost as though she had something on her mind.
She said the lunch went well but she did not elaborate and as far as he could see his mother was being very nice to her...but still something felt odd.
"Off course I am ..." She said looking at him..."My life is about to change...it just feels like some kind of dream..."
Vickram pinched her forearm," Ouch!... hey..what you do that for?" She asked sounding a bit like Shanti. She sat up giving him an irritated look.
"See you are awake and it's not a dream." He winked smiling wickedly.
"Ohhh really...very smart..." She said as she caressed both his cheeks before pinching him hard.
"Owww...! Hey!'
"Payback ...with interest haan!" she laughed
"Ohh you wanna play huh..." he had a gleam in his eye that could only lead to trouble. Placing his arms around her middle tickling her ribs making her laugh
"Noo...noo ...ok ...ok sorry sorry...stop...!"
"Nope...you have to apologize properly..."
"Huh?" she looked at him. "Ohhh...theek hain..." She sat up placing her arms around his nick she kissed him on both cheeks... "I am sorry!." She said
"hmmm...it's ok.' He said kissing her lightly, as they looked at each other smiling.
"So...are you going to tell me...what happened at lunch?" he asked.
Sugni sighed. "NO...that is between me and my mother in law..." She joked.
"aae vah!...hello she is my mother!"
"Hello curiosity killed the cat mister...ever heard of it...!" he gave her an exasperated look.
"But I will tell you this..." She said seriously. "I learned something today...no matter who she is na...a woman once she becomes a mother her kids become her world, and she will do everything in her power to protect them." She said
"What does that mean...?" He asked
She looked at him as she took his hand. "Will you promise me something?"
"Anything?" He said
"Promise me ...that no matter what happens from now on...you won't let anything or any one come between you and your mother, not even me. Especially not me."She said.
"Sugni..what...did she say something to you?" He asked.
"No..It's just..I know you two had issues in the past over our relationship...and I know she thinks you can do better than me. Don't look like that...please..." She said as he got all serious.."of course she should feel that way, it natural after everything ...but the most important thing is that is willing to accept me...and we did not expect that. Today I saw how much she loves , and through it all she was hurting watching you as well. You are her world , Vickram just like Shanti is mine and your relationship with her should be the most important". She said looking at him. "You know, you're lucky you have her, I didn't have that...sometimes I wondered if mother was alive If things would have been different." She said, sadly.
"Maybe she is reserved about me now...but I promise you she will wholeheartedly accept me one day. But until then it's my job to convince her that we belong together. So you promise you won't argue with her over me? No more jumping in the middle hmm?"
"So that is what she did threaten you?" He asked
"No!...it was nothing like that...just that if I hurt you she'd kick my butt...but I am not worried cause I don't plan on giving her that chance." She said wrapping her arms around his neck. "I am going to make you so happy she'll have no choice but accept me with open arms ..you'll see!' She smiled.
"Really?" He smiled."Well them I promise I'll stay out of it...the saas -bahu drama..." he laughed. "Because I know you can."
"Thank you...I love you!" She said kissing him.
"Hmm love you to..."

CHAPTER 23
So finally the big day was here, her wedding day. The last time Sugni saw her husband -to -be was that night after the lunch date, after which Amrita insisted that they had no time to meet each other the next day as there was lots for her and Sugni to do.
Sugni was given a total beauty "torture" treatment, that at one point she was about to say forget it, but Amrita insisted. She was washed, waxed, buffed, polished, scrubbed and what not all in the name of being beautiful.
Amrita she discovered was a little task master and great time manager, while she was overseeing Sugni's "make over" she was also arranging the decorations for the temple and all that that required. Vickram's secretary jumped on board as her assistant seeing to fine details about the small" reception" they would have with a few invited guest.
Rita as well was in the swing of things , she being the lone representative of the brides side.. Sugni's last night as a single woman was spent more or less like a sleep over with Amrita and Rita spending the night in her hall and Rita volunteering her Mehendi skills on them all.
Shanti was in the thick of things and seemed to be enjoying it all immensely since Amrita made it a point to include her in all the preparation, by asking her opinion on almost everything. Vickram was left in the care of Adi, with detailed instruction from his wife on how to get the groom ready.
"And for the final touch...the dupatta" Amrita said as she fixed the veil on her head.
"Wow...you can turn around now Sugni!" Amrita said . Sugni turned for the first time seeing herself as a bride.
"Oh my God!" She said she could not believe she was staring back at herself. She looked at the person in the mirror...this bride, and still could not believe it was her. . It suddenly hit her that in a few hours she would be married. Starting at herself in the mirror Sugni could not help but wonder again how she got this lucky.
One of her secret wishes since she was a child and could understand the concept was that one day she would be married at first it was because she thought they looked pretty. However, as she got older and realized there was more to it than just pretty clothes she would secretly wish and pray that one day she too would get married , have a respectable life with a husband and family.
A life where she could hold her head high with the security that she was not a mare object but some one who people would respect , and unfortunately where she was from that only happened if you were married.
Time past and she realized it would probably be a wish that would never come true, especially after she was told she had to start earning her way in the house and better start dancing. Se resolved herself that the inevitable would happen and has locked that dream in the depths of her heart only bringing it out when she wanted to pretend all was well in her life, an unknown face, a husband an confidant she could at least in the land of make believe have that.
Then she met Vickram and to her utter disbelief and astonishment he wanted to marry her, bringing to life that dream. Somehow she could not really believe that was happening and when Reva showed up, well it was easy to believe it would never happened because somewhere in her subconscious maybe she was waiting for something to happened and tell her that it was nothing but a dream.
Then after her Sardakhi, whatever chances she had of marriage she knew were gone and once again she accepted the fact that her life was not ment for such things. Not in her wildest dreams did she see herself here again.
Yet here she was at the cusp of her new life, with the man who held her heart. Her childhood dream about to come to fruition. Sugni closed her eyes, that we welling up with tears of happiness, at the mix of emotions running through her at the moment. Saying a thankful prayer for her blessings. Scared about wheather or not she could live up to Vickram's love and make him happy. Yet happy in a way that was so hard to put into words .
"Hey now.. Uh uh...No crying!." Amrita said as she gently.
"I am not..."She said huskily form all the emotions. Sugni looked at Amrita through the mirror she was smiling at her , the happiness shining on her face was contagious. She knew she had another person on her list of close personal friends, a short list for sure but Amrita was high up on it.
"Amrita this is ...thank you..." She said, tearfully "It was nothing Sugni...you are beautiful and as a bride you look stunning." She said.
"No...not just for this...but for everything you have done...I mean you have truly put your everything into this wedding...They way you have welcomed us and accepted us..." She turned as she hugged her. "I'll always be grateful to you. Really!" She said.
"Hey now..no fair... here I am telling you not to cry and you go making me emotional!.." Amrita said as she pulled back blinking rapidly to prevent her own tears from falling.
"Sugni as I said I did this because all I wanted to see was Mamaji happy...but these past few days I got to spend time with you and you know what I can see why you two gel so well. You are a wonderful person Sugni, and the love you have for your daughter and Mamaji...well it shines right through when you are around each other. You know even people who don't know you would recognize that shortly after meeting you two...I am just happy to be a small part of this!" She said. "If any two people deserve this it is you and Mamaji!." She said
Well weather he deserves me or not only time will tell ...but I'll tell you this for me he is the only one."
There was a knock on the Door as Rita came in with Shanti who was now all ready.
"Ohh my baby look how pretty you look!" Sugni said as Shanti beamed.
"Mom you look like a princess too!" Shanti said as Sugni smiled and hugged her. After a few minutes of Ohhing and ahhing over each other s outfits. Amrita declared it was time to get to the temple, unless they wished to be late for the wedding.
At the temple Adi, Maa Thakur and Vickram were already there. Amrita hustled Sugni into a back room out of Vickram's eyes saying they can't see each other until the wedding began as she wanted each to be stunned by the other. She sent Chan to inform tham they were here and ready .
Soon after the Pundit arrived and the ceremony began, Sugni was led out to the Mandap and could not help but stare at Vickram who was sitting there looking regal in a dark colored Kurta and perfectly blended with the bridal saree she was wearing. He looked so handsome Sugni could not help but stare.
"Stop it darling you are drooling!" Amrita teased as they slowly walked towards the alter. Sugni blushed. "That is better...look! look! he can't take his eyes off you ...haai so sweet " She continued.
"Shhh..." Sugni said wondering if Amrita was always this open and brash. She suspected she was. After what felt like a long walk but was actually just a few seconds, she was seated next to Vickram. They looked at each other and smiled, communicating with out words how happy they were to see each other after the short separation.. The pundit who began the ceremony interrupted them.
The ceremony itself brought with it a mix of emotions again. Each ritual that was performed to bond them together was touched her in a way that was hard to explain.
The moment when he placed the sindoor on her head, it was a moment that she would forever cherish in her head. A mark that finally declared her to belong to him as his wife. Sugni looked into his eyes , her own watery as he smiled, she closed her eyes as her tears spilled over with all the emotion she was feeling at the moment. Vickram shook his head silently telling her not to cry, smile which she did.
When he took her hand in his as they made the walk around the fire as they took their vows, to love cherish protect each other through all times. There was a moment that she felt utterly proud and maybe for the first time felt a confidence that finally they were walking together as a unit for all to see.!
Finally the ceremony was finished and they took the blessings from the pundit and then Maa Thakur, "be happy, always." She said as they touched her feet. Sugni smiled...maybe it was meant for Vickram but inadvertently she also got the blessing na!
After hugs were exchanged all around Amrita told then she had reservations at one of the hotels all room and that they would be taken there afte r going to have some pictures taken. They all knew better than to argue with her so off they went for a photo session.
By the time they got to the hotel it was about 4 PM.
As they walked into the ball room Vickram was surprised to see his entire office staff in attendance, they were all given the day off and was invited to the reception of the boss and his new bride.
Sugni and Shanti was introduced to every one as they stood and accepted gifts and best wishes. A round of speeches were given and almost all of the staff were beaming at how much they loved Vickram.
It was a moment he would cherish as he never really thought they would have such nice things to say about him. He was extremely touched . Finally it was family time to make speeches, Maa Thakur declined saying that she was not feeling well. And Passed the mike on to Aditya who stood up and smiled.
"Well what can I say...congratulations to Mamaji and Sugni.My life would not be what it is today if I was not for him, a father, a friend a confidant and Hero. You have been all of that for me. You guided me and protected me where there was no one else to.
And today you are starting a new phase in your life, with a woman we all know you love deeply, maybe more than anything else. And all I wish for you is that this new journey of yours be a success and brings you lots of happiness in your life.
To Sugni...welcome to the family, and it is my hope that you do treat him well, love him. That you both live together and love together in happiness always. I know that they journey to get here has not easy, but you made it past all that. God bless you both.! " He said as he lifted his wine glass.
Vickram and Sugni smiled .'Thanks " they mouthed.
Next was Amrita.
"First of all I just want to say I am happy that I can finally give up my match making deal...not that it was going any where. Then again with Sugni here no one else would do hain naa Mamaji?" She said Making them both blush.
"Seriously though ...Welcome Sugni to the family officially...and allI am going to say is wish you both lots lot lots of happiness and love. Love you Mamaji...and you Sugni!" She said.
Then it was Rita turn to say a few words. the only one on the brides side.
"Well I have only known you for a short while Sugni...but in that short time I have seen what a wonderful person you are, a dedicated and hardworking mother, and now I am confident you will bring that love, dedication and hard work to your marriage as well. I am proud to call you a friend Sugni. To Vickram, I have seen personally, the love , and caring you have not only for Sugni but for Shanti as well. And I know she is in good hands with your love and Support. I pray and hope that you two forever be like this, with each other as a family... God bless both of you!!!" She said.
Vickram stood up after Rita was finished as it was his turn to make a speech.
"Thank you every one for coming out this evening and supporting us. I am really touched by all of you it means a great deal that you came to share this with us. Amrita...I have to admit you did out do yourself in the limited time, to organize all of this. Every thing went of smoothly and beautifully thank you so much really." He said looking at her with a smile that said it all. Amrita beamed.
To Sugni...I am so happy right now I can't say...you and Shanti have become a very important part of my existence and all I can say is I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you. I love you." He ended as everyone clapped
"Attention every one!" Amtira said after the speeches and dinner were finished..."I would like to call to the dance floor the bride and groom to get this party started. Please!" She said as the music began playing. Vickram held his hand out to Sugni as he led her to the middle of the floor where they began their first official dance as husband and wife.
"Hi! Mrs. Vickram Singh" Vickram whispered as he held her in his arms as they slow danced, for the first time this evening able to have a private moment even it if was amidst the crowd.
"Hi" she smiled and blushed as she looked at him, getting lost in his eyes.
"You look absolutely breathtaking!' he said.
"So do you..!" She said. "You're like a model" She said.
"Naa..." He said pulling her closer as he rested his head against hers. "You're the one who the spotlight is on."
"Finally we are married..." He said. "After all this time...I can't tell you how happy I am!"
"So am I!" She said. "This still feels so unreal."
"It is real from now on no one Is going to come between us."
"Nope...I love you..." She said , as he bent his head and kissed her lightly, ignited some claps and whistles from a few of the people.
Sugni blushed. "Vickram!" She said
"What it is my right..." He said looking at her ..."I have wanted to kiss you since you walked to the madap...but I was afraid the pundit might get a heart attack!"
Ohh so mean!" she laughed
"what to do...and now thanks to Amrita we are stuck here...how about we sneak out through the back...I don't think they'll miss us!" He winkced wickedly.
"Stop it...what will they think'
"Oh come on they can't hear us... and you are two sweet when you blush!" he said.
Sugni was saved from his gaze by the end of the song as the other people came to dance. The made ther way back to the table where Shanti and Amrita were sitting. Shanti was looking at evey one on the dance floor.
"What's the matter princess having a great time.!" Vickram asked.
"Yes Daddy everyone looks so nice." She said as she continued watching mesmerized by the dancing on the floor. Vickram smiled.
"Would you like to dance?" He asked
"Me?" She said giggling. "I can't no kids are there." She said.
"Nonesene it is your right to dance at your mother's wedding so come on how about we have a daddy daughter dance...hmmm?" He said as he stood up and took her to the dance floor. Sugni smiled as the looked at them. As Vickram took her in his arms and placed one of her hands in his and twirled her around the dance floor. They both were laughing and enjoying the moment .
After the dance was over, they returned to the table where they sat. "wow guys that was great!" Amrita said to Shanti and Vickram!" Amrita said.
"Thank you...she's a great dancer isn't she?" Vickram said as Shanti laughed. Amrita leaned over to Shanti and whispered something in her ear.
"Now? Really ? Ohh boy boy!!!" She said shaking with excitement as Vickram and Sugni exchanged confused looks
"Yes!..." she said you want to do it?" Shanti nodded. As Amrita opened her bag and pulled out a envelope as she handed it to Shanti.
"Mummy , daddy...this is for you our surprise ...your wedding gift!" She said handing it to Vickram.
What? What is it?" he asked confused looking at the envelope.
Shanti giggled..."well we are sending you two to where all the mummies and daddies go after the wedding . THE MOON!" She said as she clapped
"The Moon?" Sugni asked looking at the envelope, that Vickram opened to find a hotel bookings for them for a the week end at one of the most luxuriuse establishments in Goa.
"Amrita...this is..."
"Ohh come on ...this is our gift, yes ours...Adi, Shanti and my gift to you. You two need some time alone as a newly married couple. I would have made it for longer but I know Sugni won't be able to stay away from Shanti for longr than a few days, but If you change your mind you can always extend!" She said
"But Shanti...she's never stayed any where without me and and..." Sugni began
"Relax Sugni...we had a long talk that day e went shopping, right Shanti? And I explained to her that after a wedding the bride and groom goes on their honeymoon, just the two of them so that they get the time to know each other. She agreed that she would stay with me for a few days , and we will have lots of fun !" She smiled.
"Yes mummy...Didi said we needed to give you the perfect gift...and all married couples go to the moon by themselves...its ok I will stay it's only for two days na...and I promise I won't give her any trouble..." She said.

Sugni looke d at Vickram amrita did put a lot of thought into this and she did not want to insult her by refusing her gift. She looked at Shanti who did seem to gel well with Amrita.
"Thank you...this was very thoughtful and we accept it." She said leaning over and hugging g them.
"Well good because I suggest you two leave now. It is a long drive." Amrita said.
"Drive?" Vickram asked
"Yes Mamaji...see you know the way and I know you love Go and long drives...so give your wife the grand tour... take your time.It's so romantic na...!" She winked. "So come on lets prepare to leave."
"wait should'nt we go home and pack 1st"" Vickram said
"All done for you...suitcases are in the trunk of your car! Lets just tell the guest bye and you two can enjoy the rest of the weekend by yourselves.!'
Soon after Vickram and Sugni waved good bye to the small crowd as they took off for their week end get away. With Shanti waving them a happy good bye.
