To Make Her Smile
Part 2
"Shh..." he placed a finger on her lips pulled her close. She closed her eyes to which he moved away, silently smiling. Finally she heard,
"Main koi aisa geet gaaon?"
Her eyes shot open, not at what she'd expected. His music. His voice. That was the oldest cure in the book for his Meher.
"Ki aarzoo jagau," he took her by the hand and twirled her around, "Agaar tum kaho..."
"Abeer what are you doing?" She quasi-laughed still trying to hold on to her stern yet depressed demeanor.
He ignored the query and pulled her back in close, "Tum ko bulaoon," and leaned his head in close, "Yeh palkein bichaoon," only to disappear flat onto the ground following her footsteps with his palms, "Kadam tum jahan jahan rakho..."
By now she couldn't help but smile.
Picking himself back up with a handful of freshly ripped grass from the sidewalk he brought his face next to her from behind, sprinkling the grass on the ground in front of her as if it were sparkles, "Zameen ko aasman banaoo," wrapping one hand around her waist from behind he pointed up at the sky, "Sitaron se sajaoon," he brought his mouth closer to her ear and leaned in a bit, "Agar tum kaho..."
She turned a bit to meet his eyes, while he noticed the growing affection and endearment in hers. He smiled before taking a step back.
Heading in the direction back to the apartment complex he made a butterfly with his hands, letting it flutter about while pretending to catch it at the same time, making that fake-irritated face, "Main titliyon ke peeche bhagoon," he continued in through the gate, "Main jugnuoon ke peech jaoon," he caught a lurking firefly. "Yeh rang hain woh roshni hai."
She followed him back in, laughing at his antics like she was having the time of her life. It was working, he noticed. However, it was more than what he'd planned.
"Tumhare paas dono laaon," he opened his hands. The tender little firefly rested on her hand crawling up to her elbow making her giggle with its tickling sensation before it flew away.
She looked back up to find him in front of her, "Jitni khushbooain" he said walking backwards and pointing to the small little garden in front of the apartment building, "Baag main milein..." he came to a complete stop in front of her again, "Main laaon wahan pe, ki tum ho jahan," he pulled out a rose from behind his back, probably from the garden itself.
And then came the unexpected bit, she took his hand in hers and wrapped the other around for a small waltz. Just like the old times. She smiled waiting for him to continue,
Taking her signal they then proceeded to waltz around the small little garden, "Jahan pe ek pal bhi thairoon,"
She joined with a side chain of notes from her side, "La, la, la, la..."
"Main gulsita banaoon,"
"La, la, la, la..."
"Agar tum kaho..."
They snuck back into the apartments from the back door using the stairs. She was now laughing, and smiling, and giggling here and there. Just the way he liked to see her.
Expecting his little stint to be over by the time they were just about there, he surprised her by resuming. "Agar kaho to main sunaoon..." he continued mischievously.
"Abeer..." she tried to scold him but couldn't bring herself to. Basking in his victory, he picked her up twirling her around, up the final few steps 'till they got to their floor, "Tumhe haseen kahaniyaan..."
Blushing at the thought of someone finding them there, she broke out of his hold an ran to the door trying to open in as fast as she could.
But she wasn't that lucky now was she? He came and turned her around, pinning her against the wall, "Sunogi kya meri zubani?" He leaned in closer only to press his forehead against hers, "Tum ek paari ki dastaan..."
She looked up at him nervously, but then inwardly smirked. If he was Abeer Malhotra she too was Meher Mal--
Meher dismissed the thought, she didn't want to ruin the moment. But the truth was deep down, she still was Mrs. Meher Malhotra.
"Ya main karoon..." he brought her hands up to his face, pressing a kiss on each, "Tumse baiyaan..." brushing a lock of hair behind her ear, leaning in to the side of her face, "Ya main karoon..."
"Abeer..." she tried to tug him away but was stopped by the sudden string of kisses on her neck.
"Tumse baiyaan..." he continued.
She anti-climatically cut him off, "Ki Raja, se Rani, mili thi kahan!" she swiftly pushed him away and ran inside, breaking the moment and laughing only to turn around and give him a giant "baba ji ka thullu."
"Better luck next time sweetheart!" she teased as she ran towards her bedroom.
He ran a hand through his hair, obviously embarrassed. What was he thinking? But the way she teased, oh hell she was so getting it! He ran behind her, throwing whatever pillows he could grab from the couch her way
Making it in just in time before she could close the door, he celebrated his success, "Kahaniyon ke nagar mein, tumhe le ke jaoon..." He brought out his palm, for a dance. "Agar tum kaho..."
This time instead of a proper waltz, she just seeped into his hold, letting herself relax in his arms. He swayed her in his arms for a bit before setting her down on the bed.
"Tum ko bulaoon, yeh palkein bichaoon..." he sang softer now, adjusting the pillows for her as she laid down. Removing her slippers from her feet and setting them aside, he continued, "Kadam tum jahan jahan rakho..."
Her eyes were now glistening with something. A feeling convoluted with so many emotions, all the tears could do was fall, bearing themselves to him.
He met her eyes, wiping those tears away. Taking her hand in his at her bedside, he gave her a silent promise. A vow of comfort, security, concern, and above all love. A husband's love, meant just for his wife.
Pulling the covers up for her, he brought their little eventful night to a close, "Zameen ko aasman banoo, sitaron se sajaoon," he turned the lamp off, "Agar tum kaho..."
He felt her hand still holding onto hers, a bit more firmly than before.
"Please," she whispered. After a slight hesitation he noticed she was asking with a smile.
And boy did it make him feel like a million bucks to be the reason behind that smile. The way it should be.
He simply replied by laying his head on the same small little pillow as hers, "Agar tum kaho..."
