About SAIFTA 2013

SAIFTA is a celebration of cultures and talent from India and South Africa with primary aim to recognise, honour and promote creativity, talent and excellence in both the film and television industries in India and South Africa.

SAIFTA is the first of its kind awards ceremony bringing Bollywood to Durban to felicitate talent from both countries in the sphere of cinema and television.

SAIFTA also aims to:

• Develop new talent and provide a platform for cross-cultural exchange between the two countries.
• Build a signature event that will expose visitors and citizens of KwaZulu-Natal to a multitude of the KZN product offering, guaranteeing a top of mind awareness of the diversity, culture and heritage that the Province has to offer.

Showcase and promote KwaZulu-Natal as a film location.

• Research indicates that one of the most effective means of promoting a region or a country is through the area becoming a feature film location.
• Increase tourist arrivals, spend and duration of stay, thus creating a positive impact on the Economic Development of the Province of KwaZulu-Natal.
• Create a partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Province and deliver a unique international glamour experience through SAIFTA.

Background on SAIFTA

• SAIFTA, the South Africa India Film & Television Awards, is the intellectual property of Celebrity Locker KZN Pty Ltd.
• The event is empowered and backed by The Department of Economic Development and Tourism and Tourism KZN.
• SAIFTA proposes to be an annual highlight on the Durban events calendar.
• A preview of the main event was showcased at the Durban ICC on March 2, 2013.
• South African and Indian celebrities will be invited to join a tour of the major attractions of Durban and KwaZulu-Natal The biggest stars from India (Bollywood) will arrive in Durban in September for the week-long carnival preceding the main awards.
• The main event is scheduled for 6 September 2013, at The Durban ICC.

Indian and South African TV Shows

TV shows winners would be determined by public votes. Votes from South Africa would only be considered.

Process:

• Determination of list of nominees
• Shortlist top 5 in each category
• Top 5 are put up for public voting
