The hard work of Prince Arjun on his marraige

Constantly reminiscing in a noticeable way in front of wife about ex

raising hands on wife publicly and even attempting to hit her when she was pregnant

driving her to drink by constantly throwing ex in her face during pregnancy

describing their dead baby as 'Ovi's kid'

not mourning for the dead kid but being elated that the alive kid is his and his ex's

having multiple times sex with wife while sighing over ex .

Now

this is described as naivete of viewers when we feel disgusted saying men can have sex without being in love

but

men also have sex when in love

how puzzling

they must feel something na 😉 to do IT

ON THEIR OWN I MEAN

kuch to karna padta hai

so they have sex when they r in love and when they r not in love

thats describing that species as jerks .

Ummm ...don't agree .

And i'm not naive .

Well, you see Arjun doesn't like clingy women. Ovi was so needy and wanted Arjun to do everything she tells him to do. Whereas, Purvi doesn't even care of what Arjun does. So therefore Arjun likes to play hard to get...lol.

Arjun tried to make his marriage work.
Arjun compliments Ovi she doubts him.
Arjun praises her publicly and private she questions his motives.
Arjun tries to take care of Ovi she again thinks its not for her but for their baby.
Arjun buys her gifts Ovi again doubts him.
Arjun tries to make Ovi happy she gets furious because he isnt doing it for her he is doing it for Purvi.
Its not Arjun's fault Ovi wanted his body, his heart and soul. She got his body but couldnt claim his soul nor could win his heart.
What more can u want from a guy who repeatedly told u he didnt love you.U no comprendo Ovi??
As a wife Ovi gave Arjun misery so why is Arjun the only one who is obligated to make her happy??She ever made him happy? So Ovi...

You both have a point and I respect your POV. But please also consider this. While there is something called biology, there is also something called restrain in a cultivated person. One can understand it as reality but one does not expect it in a person projected as a central character of "Pavitra Rishta." Would the audiences have accepted the same kind of biology between Onir and Purvi?

And I should also add, insecurity is also a part of love - remember Radha kaise na jale? So, if we are trying to understand Arjun's loveless sex, we could also try understanding Ovi's insecurity.

Maybe not in this serial, but in another Ekta show (Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai), the heroine did marry someone else, a man to whom she was indebted. When the vengeful hero gets out of jail and tries to break up her marriage (a la Monte Cristo), she consummates with her husband and even has his child later. In that one, she didnt love the other guy, but considered him her greatest friend. So there the scenario was reversed. Heroine loves hero but separates from him due to misunderstandings, she marries her friend and has his kid. And she did get a LOT of flak from IF members for that! 😆 But the hero also had physical affairs with other women when they were separated later, for which we also bashed him.
But we still loved them both as both were complicated, grey characters. Hero and heroine of a story or show dont have to be absolutely pristine, pure white characters. Its more interesting if they have faults, make mistakes and suffer for them.

Thanks Pallavi. Great response! Thanks for telling me about the other serial. PR is the first serial I have watched - so I learned something new about Ekta serials.
I totally agree especially with the highlighted part. Of course, complex characters with faults - Othello comes to mind - are more interesting to watch. (That is why even though I do not like the Arjun-Purvi track as developed now, I have no problems with them as characters.) And the whole thing about not sticking to traditional morality would be OK if it was not being associated with totally traditional and cliched expressions like "eternal love," "true love," "Pavitra Rishta" etc. After all social mores have changed. But if the cliched expressions are going to be used, then we better stick with the kind of moral values associated with them.

Further, the same non-traditional modern thinking would lead us to see that love does not happen only once. Any psychologist will say that much. Not that people should run around having affairs. But if a person finds a caring partner, human heart does respond to care and love. So, this mix up created by non-traditional life style with use of totally traditional values like - "sacrifice" (very confusingly defined), "pure love," "eternal love" etc. leads to criticism by viewers of my type (or may be it is only me).

Thanks for a great post and taking time to respond.

Why don't you people understand this?
Love is crazy, when that love could change a workholic man into a lover boy who could even become a mechanic to have her..this is nothing for him!
He never loved ovi, and this he shouted so many times to them in canada but nobody ever listened him!

If ovi would have understood this earlier what she understood now, she would have been happily married with someone!
And yea, purvi before his employee is his lover and ex-fiance!

Is love necessary to be considerate to your wife? No one expects Arjun to serenade Ovi with singing and dancing but small gestures would have sufficed. I guess Arjun picked and chose which husbandly duties he would perform...Getting physical pleasure by having sex is okay but treating your wife nicely requires love? Okay ... *facepalm* even more is expected from a friend than Arjun ever did for Ovi

Arjun never cared or loved ovi ever. And he never will.

The world doesn't start or begin with Arjun-Purvi's so called amar prem. Selfish love doesn't last. Love that brings other happiness and doesn't leave a path of destruction is pavithra love. Arjun made a commitment and he should have seen through it. That is if he is a man of integrity.

Arjun doesn't like clingy women ?

Er ...then Purvi likes clingy men ?

Coz he has clung on to Purvi like some soppy leech .

As if he had no self respect or as if there were no other women in the world after that dirty one night stand where he couldn't even wait for one more day ...the marraige was the next day .

And if he doesn't like clingy women why was he clinging on to the marraige till his wife shouted I WANT A DIVORCE DAMMIT !

Who was cinging to whom ?

Thanks for your response! 😊
Yes, flawed central characters are more interesting to watch, as the great example you have given of Othello. Hamartia or fatal flaw in character drove the hero towards his own destruction in Greek tragedies.
I think the term Pavitra Rishta is used more for Archu and Manav than Arjun Purvi, isnt it?
I agree that people can love again, first love is not full and final. If Ovi was the least bit mature, if she understood and respected Arjun, if she gave him space and let his memories be in their own place, she could have and would have made a place for herself in his heart. Basically, Arjun is a very needy person, he lost his mother early and had an indifferent father. So it would not have been difficult for a caring, loving woman to win his heart again. But problem is, Ovi herself was needy and insecure, immature. How can one needy person fulfil the needs of another one? Thats why there was no chance for their marriage to survive.
