So its supposedly 21st century but mindsets and attitudes are still ancient. At every juncture, sanskars and old fashioned values are being cited...so why not Gandharva Vivaha? Which was a common practice in Vedic times in ancient INDIAN CULTURE? 😉

What gandharva vivah? There was no pheras around the fire-kund nor exchange of garlands...TMRW some love birds walk around the stove and they will say they were married.. Ring exchange only makes the engagement valid 😉

Some sort of ceremony is needed like in Punjabis its Shagun and Roka even before sagai...in Bengalis it is Paka dekha, which is a ceremony where bridegroom's family comes and gives sari and jewelry to the girl which means rishta is fixed. Arjun Ovi had no such ceremony in Canada. So when Arjun came to India he was still un-engaged.
