For that matter, even women can do it as a duty, not for love. Like Purvi would have done it if Onir had agreed to consummate their marriage.
Thousands of Indian marriages are based not on love but on compromise so the intimacy is just for the sake of marital duty and procreation. Thats what it was for Arjun. Of course he did care for Ovi, she was his childhood friend but he never loved her. So the sex part was just sex, nothing else.

see that's where I disagree..I don't subscribe to the mindset of "boys will be boys" e.g. horny and ready to get it on with anyone. Arjun made the conscious choice to sleep with Ovi. He did the deed and I take it he enjoyed it (sex is supposed to be fun) 😆 Action results induces emotion. In Arjun's case, he was hungover the sense of loss. He conditioned his brain to hold Purvi in high regards and an integral part of his life and a necessity. They say it's all about mind over matter. By doing so, he put a wedge inbetween him moving forward in life. What is astonishing is that he continued to have satisfy his carnal cravings on Ovi in the name of "duty". After that party where he pronounced his love for Purvi, Ovi was willing to walk away but it is he who chose to initiate a physical relationship with Ovi (on Purvi's insistence). That is where he should have called it quits.

As for what love is, it's actually very subjective. I wouldn't describe Arjun-Purvi's relationship as love. It was filled with passion yes, but it is like fire and fire extinguishes quickly. Everything about their love affair was rushed and seemed urgent. From the tiffs at the beginning to the sudden realization for love - all seemed contrived in the mere months they met each other. These are 19 year-olds should I remind everyone. All crushes and feelings seems intense at that age. They met for only a couple of months (half the time they were feuding) yet the necessity to get them married right away over other people's misery seemed like an urgent matter. They say that a marriage should not occur if it leads to harming someone else. At that time, Ovi was suicidal, Archana, Purvi, and Ovi's so-called best-friend should have stalled the wedding date by even a month until things settled down. Did they fear that ArVi's eternal love will fly away if they waited any longer to get married?

In short ArVi's relationship is like Romeo and Juliet. No I am not praising Arjun and Purvi's love for each other. There seems to be a misconception that Romeo and Juliet is a tale of 2 eternal lovers. That is quite the opposite purpose Shakespear had in mind. Romeo and Juliet is meant to be a cautionary tale of human nature that holds true to this day. It paints a portrayal of two silly teenagers and their sense of urgency to acquire their love against the ticking hands of time which eventually led to their downfall. I don't want to say that there's no such thing as love but the 'love' we see on screen with Arjun-Purvi is not realistic. It is but passion and desire. Sure if they did eventually get married, they could have had a happy life and evolved into a full-fledge love for each other in every aspect. Similarly they could have gotten along swimmingly well together and eventually once the passion died down (as psychological tests show that typically after 2 years of relationship, pasion is less) and their head-strong personality would have clashed and they would have divorced. There's no way to tell how a relationship will go. The seemingly well-adjusted couple might drift apart. Relationships are very fluid and require constant work from both parties to remain at equilibrium where both can flourish and stay happy. If Arjun had wanted, his relationship with Ovi could have worked. He needed to take accountability and conditioned his mind to not hold Purvi to such regard. While she might be the Damsel in distress and hard to get and I get guys dig that, he should have been real with himself and either put 100% in the relationship or dipped. Not satisfying himself sexually by using Ovi while pinning for Purvi.

I am rather tired of putting forth the same arguments again and again so I will only say this...all 4 of them have made huge mistakes...Arjun, Purvi, Ovi and Onir. Now all 4 of them are at a juncture of their lives where they can either make a positive change and rectify matters OR make it even worse.

Onir needs to come clean to Purvi and reveal his secret and let Purvi decide what she will do abt it
Purvi needs to learn abt Onir's past and decide what to do next abt her conjugal life.
Ovi needs to send those divorce papers to Arjun for signing and move on with her own career in Canada.
Arjun needs to be a good father to Pari and also needs to sign the divorce papers and free Ovi from their dard ka rishta.
After this, only time and Onir's truth will decide whether Arjun-Purvi can reunite or Arjun will have to retire gracefully and let Onir Purvi lead their married life in peace.
As a viewer I can only hope for positive things to happen...and I hate being negative abt people especially where a baby's future is concerned. 😊

Thanks and I agree with you completely on this Pallavi. There is need for some tough decisions to be made by the four persons involve and move on with their respective lives. There is no need to drag on things that really wont bear any fruits. If Ovi so decide to leave arjun then she should do so without ifs and buts. No strings attached.

Purvi also need to know what is Onir upto and based on what it is, then she and Onir make their decision and move on.

Arjun's main responsibility here is to take care of pari until he has cleared his mind before deciding what to do next in his life.

The rest should be destiny.

Exactly, there is difference between loving a character to the point that you defend every single flaw they make in the story and seeing the story and character for what it really is.
