My dear Pari,

Once again, I am SO happy and reassured by your views, and your very clear and firm attitudes to the does and don'ts of life, especially when one is young.

I agree completely with you regarding the relative importance of factors like caste and religion on the one hand, and morals and decency on the other. The first is a matter of adjustment, but the second should be non-negotiable, and that is why I cannot stand the idea of Purvi having Arjun's baby without being married to him. It is very distasteful, and more to the point, not at all credible given the way she was and is presented, as a lower middle class girl brought up with definite codes that she accepts and lives by. They have ruined her character, and to no purpose that I can see.

What dismays me even more is the frantic desire in large chunks of this forum for Arjun and Purvi to get together again by hook or by crook, and all those in the way of this be damned. Someone wrote that she wanted Ovi to die in childbirth. I would not wish that even on Punni the Python. I feel that an extension of this attitude to real life is what leads to all the attacks on women for repelling the advances, even just for friendship, of male acquaintances and even colleagues - the obsession is with getting what one wants and the rest can go to the devil.

The kind of reckless promiscuity that you have mentioned is probably part of the same syndrome. Thank Heavens that I am over 60 and am not bringing up kids in these days! And of course shows like PR contribute to this progressive degeneration by presenting the unacceptable as acceptable, even normal.

Take care, my dear, and mind that you stay exactly as you are. I would not want you to change in the slightest.

Shyamala Aunty

Thank you for all the warm replies :)

Shyamala Aunty- I feel that most of us in the 20's still follow the same morals and ideals that our parents did..And inspite of living away from India, I am glad these are still intact. It is good to change with the zamaana as they say, but I believe you can only stretch a little or become flexible or broad-minded on things that don't change your moral compass. e.g- MY parents were never too happy with the idea of inter-caste marriages, but with today's world, I guess I would be. But the idea of cheating in marriage, or giving up on your husband because you found love outside of marriage suddenly, incestuous relationships..all of this would never be flexible. But seems like, for a lot of youngsters these days, it is what they see in the media, TV or films that shapes their ideas about what is/what isn't ok. And we all know what the movies and media portray. The entire pressure of being "cool" is what drives the 20 somethings. Fitting in, peer pressure, a certain reputation ( which is not always good) to uphold, having the latest of everything, and much worse is what this generation is worried about. One of my friend's younger sister was telling me about how one of the boys she was meeting for potential marriage match, asked her if she had had any sexual experience before as it would be very important in their relationship". Ofcourse, she rejected this boy, but was very shaken by the notions that people her age have out there. That night I sat and heard stories about college life in Bombay and what goes on between all these adolescent kids and how common sexual promiscuity is and the uglier truth being, it is considered very normal. I was shocked beyond belief but was told that this is the reality out there. These shows propagate such wrong ideas and values on the name of being family soaps. If I had my way, my kids would not get access to these things until I was sure they know right from wrong. Imagine Pavitra Rishta being a show that you had to have parental control over. :P

I apologize for the long rant, but having come to the forum after long, I think I got carried away !

teju's comment made me watch the episode 😆

was curious to see what Ovi did this time to induce anger

And i found

Nothing.

Infact i found her absolutely right .

I even found once again that the effort of working on a marraige is once more done only by Ovi . She was apologising for the umpteenth time for things which were not her fault .

It was sweet of her to care for Arjun's feelings so much when he cares nothing for hers and only for Purvi's.

As for Arjun

he looked uncomfortable and guilty as hell .

Ovi had not done the lying neither did she tell Dr Onir anything ...had it been Punni she would have not let this chance go and told with mirch masala .

But Ovi told nothing , did nothing yet Arjun was angry with her like a classic jerk and trying to protect his ex by supporting her lies .

It was so convenient for him that the doctor was believing those lies .

Dear saintly Purvi is thinking of running away again before the 🤬 hits the fan .

And it will be put down as some tyaag when this is nothing but saving one's own chamdi .

Things i found hilarious

Savita calling Sunny's mom Aie farsanwaali and Aie sev gaathiyawaali🤣

Er ...Purvi is thinking of doing Loook puchkas again ...this time with Onir .

So irresistible a woman in her baby avtaar is to men . Especially when she is pregnant .

Watched today's episode and was so😲😳 to see Ovi apologizing to the nimrod husband Arjun for something she had not done..If Purvi decides to hide something from her husband and husband is inquisitive abt it why is Ovi being blamed for it? Arjun looked guilty and so did Purvi when Onir was having convo with Purvi abt why Ovi acts different when Purvi is around..I hope Onir finds out the true reason for Ovi's condition is Arjun-Purvi and to blame them for driving Ovi to drinking..
I bet Purvi's report shows how far prego she is so she snatched the report from her sanskari Aai...
Pari loved your post ...
Kittya beta I am no HP fan or have not seen movies or read books but loved your letter writing post to Shyamala..
Teju I am with you on why Ovi being blamed for something she has not done...But Ovi is supposed to be 3rd leg or kabab me haddi for Arjun-Purvi so she will be called any names or will take the fall no matter what..
Actually she is the victim at the hands of Arjun-Purvi both with pregnancy track...
Archana better wake up at her beautiful teenage age of 55 and smell the jasmin that her sanskari daughter Purvi is & has been upto no good..
Arjun and Purvi both looked guilty today..CVs defo are feeling out the audiance to see which way to go ...

Kools what Ovi said was so right from her side that her marriage is not based on a lie...At that point did you notice Arjun;s face?????? He was shown guilty...He knows he has slept with Purvi...
So from his side the marrige was based on a lie...Arjun-Purvi both lied...Ovi and Onir are honest..
BTW what Ovi said to Arjun was so true and to Onir was true too...👏

Hi Varsha di,

SInce the story has taken this scandalous turn once again, I am compelled to be active for a while :P

What I find ludicrous is the blame game on Ovi even at this point. Ovi made the deal on their faces. She unabashedly even proclaimed about her wrongdoings in front of her father the next day, irrespective of the consequences. Not once did she falter in saying the blatant truth, not once did she give it a second thought, or fake her emotions. She has been baring it all as it is, transparently. Whether it is her love for Arjun, her pain at having been betrayed, her initial hate for her mother, dislike for Purvi or the state of her marriage. Everyone knows all about her. No lies, no hidden agendas, and no faking anything. Does that not make her a positive character? She is most real and at this point, helpless and pitiable character on the show. My heart truly goes out to her plight.

I caught up on why she started drinking, the first few episodes post leap. I am not surprised that she did. This girl is neglected by her mother and her husband for the same girl who has only caused havoc in her life since the time she has entered the D house. She is living the nightmare of a reckless, pathetic and jerk husband day in and day out. If someone likes to argue that Arjun is performing all his pati duties and taking care of her, it is baseless, since one can see it is only for his baby. This is like the case of some households in our country where a pregnant woman is only given importance for her baby. Arjun is only interested in "HIS" baby, not his "WIFE" who is going through 9 months of keeping that baby inside of her. How selfish and abhorent his behavior is. And still, he is a positive character and Ovi is negative? I don't understand what is the basis for such ideas in people. Ovi is mentally tortured day in day out with husband pining for her sister shamelessly in front of his wife, why would the wife not take to drinking? It is a surprise Ovi hasn't ended her life yet. I am so tempted to make this a post and see why people think she is wrong and possibly argue just to understand the psyche behind these ideas.

Archana-Manav are the most irresponsible and nalayak parents of them all. No words for these 50 somethings still stuck in their love land without having any inclination towards their children and their problems.

Coming to Purvi, the apparently mahaan, flawless and spotless lead of this show, that so many people love to defend, she has clearly broken all maryaada ( by having sex before marriage and then handing over fiance to sister + making love calls through eyes with jeeju) and now shamelessly found another noble man to take her into his chayya and lied to him about her past? How is her marriage any marriage at all, with the amount of lies this shameless girl is sitting on. She has started the most pavitra relationship on the basis of a pack of lies, including possibly who the father of her illegitimate child is. She has fallen below all grace and dignity in my opinion. And then she used to give big bhashaans to Arjun for not having told her about Ovi before, or to Punni for all her scheming and plotting. I hope Punni sets her straight this time in front of a large audience and brings her kaands to light, publicly humiliating her.

Clearly in this case, Purvi is the negative on this show, having had done everything that a girl portrayed from her background and "supposed Archana's grand sanskaars" do NOT do. Ovi, on the other hand, has kept all her morals intact, loved one man and stayed true to him all her life, despite the torture that he has put her through. She hasn't strayed from her marriage even after knowing that her husband is never going to be hers. She even keeps up fake smiles and happiness in the wake of her husband's social status. Even though, I would sincerely hope for her to opt for a divorce and leave with her baby to Canada, away from these pathetic duo of Arjun-Purvi and the careless and hopeless examples of parents Archana-Manav.

ahhh,, ranting after so long! It feels like even catching glimpses of this show ends up making me feel the need for catharsis!

Bang on Pari abt Ovi the real character and infact candid, upfront and positive character VS purvi mahaan, tyaagi, lying, hypocritical and the most disgustingly negative character of the show..I think the fruit did not fall tooo far from the tree but when a step ahead of the mother...Atleast Archana did not fall this low..
Arjun is just like his IDOL...Weak male specie-character..
Fab post dear...So good to read you...Glad u r back with the bang!! 👏👍🏼
