Dear Strega,
Ah, a fellow Harry Potter aficionada! ๐ค๐ค
To my mind. JK Rowling's success was not only in creating a splendidly detailed and internally consistent alternative world, but in still keeping it recognisable, like a sort of combination of Enid Blyton and JRR Tolkien. Plus the core values were very simple: friendship, loyalty, compassion even to the likes of Draco Malfoy (remember when Harry saves him from the Fyiend Fire that one of his cohorts unleashes by mistake?), and above all and again, consistency. We the readers are never worried that Hermione and Ron will suddenly start undermining Harry, no matter how crabby and unreasonable he is at times.
Then, as a sort of crowning glory, the ultimate embodiment of a truly Pavitra Rishta, that of Severus Snape with the woman he loves beyond her death, and I am sure his as well. I never forget the scene between him and Dumbledore, in chapter 33 of the Deathly Hallows, when Snape releases his own Patronum, the silver doe, which is the same as Lily's. When Dumbledore asks "After all these years?", Snape replies "Always." Can any other love match his?
As for PR, it is a joke, and a bad one that is getting worse all the time. There, that should be enough to keep me from being warned for going 100% off topic!๐
Shyamala
PS: What is your name, my dear, unless you would rather keep it confidential?.
Dear Shyamala aunty, Kools, Varsha di, Kalapi and everyone on KC posts,
A big big hello to you all! Also wishing you all the most fabulous new year ahead and lots of happiness, good luck and love for you and your families! ๐คJust happened to peek into the forum to see what new lows has this show reached and dare say, I am more amused than ever! Just caught up on few comments and posts and flabbergasted at where the CV's have taken this mess.I have been absolutely ignoring the show and the forum for my mental sanity but I do once in a while drop in to see if any of you have made any posts..Seems like I am not the only one who has given up on the unrealistic and bizarre storyline :PCaught up on last 2-3 episodes to catch a glimpse of Onir babu...Poor chap, how unadulerated and transparent his character looks right now, awaiting it's butchering and mutilation by the still delinquent CV's. It's a wonder that instead of getting better, they have only become worse. I loved his character in the 2-3 episodes I watched, but seems like the forum does not agree since he is the new kabab mein haddi between Arjun and Purvi. From what I figure, there seems to be no kabab also anymore with both the lovers being dutifully married to different people and playing their responsibilities. Have they shown Purvi's baby to be Arjun's and Ovi's baby to be someone else's yet? I could care less though.Someone mentioned a Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam track. Well, even if the CV's follow that track, what a disparity in treatment to the movie versus this reckless show. (reckless because of it's pathetic dismissal of marriage over love). What a beautiful and sensitive movie! This show is more like Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna which sent out one of the most convulated messages about marriage and responsibility ever! Maybe I am too old school and this is the new mantra of the century . But it's definitely not the mantra I will be teaching my children for sure. Which is why I feel, that PR being such a daily and popular soap is propagating such wrong ideas to a population that is largely Indian and still holds the same "age old" values about marriage and morals.Anyway, I feel sorry for Ovi. When did she start drinking? Have they answered any of the questions about pre-leap what transpired between Purvi-Onir and Arjun-Ovi to have 2 kids suddenly on their way. I am curious to know how Purvi met Onir and why Ovi took to drinking ( although I won't be surprised that Arjun and Archana pushed her over the wall on this one). But, very curious to know about Ovi's baby and if it isn't Arjun's, how come Arjun doesn't know? I guess they might have consummated their marriage anyway, so all reasoning of Ovi-Arjun marriage being invalid is thrown out of the window. But who knows! PR land anything is possible. Will keep checking forum on updated on this mystery. :PThe interest in PR is highlighted by the lack of posts from people on each episode. I barely see 2-3 posts, compared to the many that would be delightful to read before this awful leap took place. It was so much fun to sit and analyze and predict the characters and their actions. I guess, with where the show is going, not much is left to analyze since most of the characters are only dying a painful slow death. I noticed no new posts from any of you for a while! Hence, never came back to the forum actively :P Ankita is smart to leave the show. Hope they wrap up this sorry mess soon too!On a random note, I started watching Devon Ke dEv on one saturday catching up on a lot of episodes from morning to evening. What a treat this show is! Maybe that's why I am not compelled to come back to PR anymore! Thank you to all who suggested this show earlier. It is one of the best shows on TV right now!How are you all doing waise? Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and year end!Much love! :)Just saw the silly promo and can't say that I am surprised or shocked. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam with a baby from e lover cum jeejaji on the way...Hats off to these writers who have such disgusting convulated minds that on the name of twists come up with such repulsive tracks. Will the ex lovers re-unite leaving Ovi to die and Onir to turn negative? Or will both Ovi and Onir elopet escape their lunatic spouses? I really hope they do not turn the noble and compassionate Doctor babu into a villain. I don't know if there is space left for hope on this show anymore?
@blue - Certainly no love as defined in PRland, for sure. And yes, I am a total HP fan. Books, movies and to top it, HP land in Florida. Perfect :) I saw in earlier posts that you are a Jane Austen fan like me, as well.Less said about the show the better. What a sordid mess it has become ๐. I was holding out for the kid being Onir's but I guess that is in vain. I am giving up. I have defended Purvi for I could even come up with a reason for her coming to Mumbai - but this is so against her character as they had sketched it for us that I find it unacceptable. I saw a link to a promo and that kind of is the last straw.I guess I will go back to the hole I came from - this is too silly. And my name is Padma.

Dear Kittya,
How lovely to hear from you after so long! And thank you so very much for your comments about my take on Harry Potter. Let me guess who the 'other' favourite author of yours is, Tolkien?
As for what you have said about the need to create a recognisable world with characters one can identify with, I agree with you totally, except that it is very rare to find anything of the kind on TV. The only one I can think of in recent times was Yashraj TV's Powder, telecast for 6 months from Jan-Jun 2010, in 26 one hour episodes, one a week. It was about the global narcotics trade, whence the name. As I know a good bit about the official agencies working to curb the drug trade in India and elsewhere, I was thrilled by the authenticity of the screenplay and the direction, and the excellent casting. Perhaps predictably, it did not do well in terms of the TRPs, in part because Sony did not promote and handle it well, and after a few more attempts, including a very good adaptation of Kane and Abel as a daily, again for 6 months, called Kismat, Yashraj gave up on TV, more is the pity. So we are left to the tender mercies of Balaji and the rest.
Let me wish you a healthy, peaceful and fulfilling 2013. Take care.
