Chapter 3
"When do I get to meet my jiju then." Teju asked.
"Teju. You don't have a jiju. Please, don't ask that question again."
Arjun was surprised at Purvi's reaction. What exactly was she trying to hide? Why was she so defensive when her family asked her about her husband? Her son's father.
After dinner
Everyone had moved to the lounge, conversing about general topics. That was everyone except Arjun. Arjun was on his own mission, talking to P.I. on his phone.
"Sunny, I need you do me a favour."
"Sure. Just tell me what it is."
"I want to know everything about a woman called Purvi Deshmukh and find out as much as you can on Rohan Deshmukh, her son. Find what has happened in the last 6 years."
"That shouldn't be too hard. I will talk to you when I have all the information."
"Thank you. My friend, you have no idea how much you helped me."
"It absolutely fine. And I'll talk to you tomorrow. Bye."
"Bye."
Arjun ended the call and went down to room where everyone else was sat. He sat down next to Soham and Sachin, across from his father, Manav and Rohan. Purvi, Archana, Teju and Savita sat the sofa to their left.
"Rohan beta, what would you like to do when your older?" DK asked.
"DK uncle, I want to do anything that would keep my mama happy and smiling all the time. I don't like it when she's sad and cries." A frown formed upon the little boys head. "She cries a lot these days and doesn't tell me what wrong."
He slid of his paternal grandfather's lap and walked over to his mother.
"Mama promise me something."
"First tell me what it is."
"No, Mama please promise me something."
"Fine. I promise. What is it?"
"Don't ever be sad. I don't like it when your upset. If anyone thinks about making sad I will hurt them and if you cry just like that I won't talk to you again. I promise."
"I promise, Rohan. " and with that she hugged him fiercely. A tear drop fell from the corner from her. She wiped the tear of her face and pulled away from her son and got a glimpse of her watch. Her mouth formed a perfect "O" when she saw it was 10 o'clock.
"Rohan, it's way past your bedtime and you still need to have your bath."
"But mama. I want to spend time with nani and nanu and DK uncle and maasi and Soham Mamu and Sachin Mamu and Arjun uncle." He listed.
"Kiddo, you could do that tomorrow as well. Sachin added. We're not going anywhere."
"Fine." He said with a grumpy face.
Rohan hugged almost everyone in the room. He walked towards Arjun. Just like the others Rohan asked Arjun of he could hug him goodnight.
Purvi stiffened momentarily.
As soon as Rohan returned to her she picked him up.
"Goodnight everyone" she said with a small smile. She heard a chorus of good nights and left the room.
Meanwhile in the lounge.
Manav eyes glistened with tears continuously trailing at the door.
"Manav are you ok?"
"I will be. Tomorrow morning you 3." He said pointing at Soham, Sachin and Teju. "Will come with me and archana to get tested at the hospital."
"Of course baba but won't Rohan need to be tested too." Teju inquired.
"That depend if Purvi has got his results. We will ask her in the morning. For now I think we should all get some sleep."
With that the departed toward their sanctuaries.
Next morning at hospital
"Hi Dr. Malhotra." Rohan said with a cheery grin.
"Hello young fellow. How are you?"
"I'm fine thank you."
Everyone looked confused other that purvi.
"Purvi, how do you know this doctor."
"He's being treating Rohan since he was diagnosed."
"Oh."
"Doctor we have a question. Will Rohan have to be tested to."
"I'm afraid so the previous time we tried we didn't get enough blood." When theylooked at him confused he elaborated.
"You see it was hard to find a vein in his arm the last time we tried to take blood. So instead of poking both his arms with a needle several times Purvi and I thought it would be better if we tried the next he came to see me."
One by one all the Deshmukh had their blood taken. Rohan was the last one left.
"Mama Dr. Malhotra takes so much blood that we won't have any left in our body."
All laughed in response to his comment.
"Don't worry I make sure to leave some behind." Said the doctor?finishing of the removal of blood.
"Ok. We are done here the reports should be back within the hour. Please wait in the waiting room and I shall call you in once they have come."
One hour later...
Dr. Malhotra has called you in his office.
All of them made their way to the office.
The doctor looked at purvi and shook his head, knowing she wouldn't like him to say anything infront of Rohan.
Teju will you take Rohan to the gift shop.
Realising it was something serious Teju left with Rohan.
Purvi collapsed into one of the chairs.
"How this possible?"
"Purvi I told you the chance of your siblings and parent blood matching Rohan was unlikely. We need to find a donor." He sighs. "I know asking you this again is pointless but why don't you ask Rohan's father to get tested."
"That's not an option doctor."
"I've just got one question. Is your son's life more important than whatever grudge you hold against his father?"
"I'll try any other way."
"Fine but the chances of finding a match are very slim."
"Ok. Thank you doctor."
As they walked out Teju came to the office holding a limp Rohan.
"Purvi. Rohan collapsed."
"Move out of my way NOW!" Dr. Malhotra order.
"Sister, get a stretcher." he shouted out of the door.
An unconscious Rohan was wheeled off to a private room.
30mins later
Dr. Malhotra walked out of the room.
"Purvi I seriously think you should change your mind your son need this transplant. Even though he at the top of the list finding a donor will be hard."
Meanwhile back at the Manson
"Sunny it 3pm Have you got anything yet?"
"Yeah Arjun. He gulped loudly. Arjun her son Rohan is ... Your son. "
"What on earth are you talking about?"
"Arjun I swear I'm telling you the truth. I would never lie to you and I checked this so many times my head is hurting."
"What's Rohan's date of birth ?"
"27th October 2013."
"Oh dear god. Why didn't she tell?"
"Arjun don't don't anything stupid. Listen-"
Arjun hung up the phone, grabbed his keys and stormed out of the house, driving towards he hospital.
He saw Sachin outside the entrance.
"Where are Purvi and Rohan, Sachin?"
He waited for Sachin to reply.
"Sachin tell me. NOW."
"I'll show you."
They quickly made their way towards the private ward.
"Arjun what are you doing here?"
Arjun ignored Manav and walked towards Purvi.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I... Um ... I-I ..." Purvi stuttered. How did he find out, she thought.
"STOP STUTTERING AND ANSWER ME." He said grabbing purvi arms.
All were shocked. Suddenly, Dr Malhotra walked in.
"Doctor." Purvi whispered when she saw he doctor getting out of Arjun's strong grip.
"How is he? What happened to him?" She asked the doctor.
"He's fine now but his cancer is taking a toll on his body now. We need that donor now."
"Test me."
All looked at the source who spoke.
"But arjun why? Your not even related to him."
"Your wrong there, Manav uncle. He's my son."
Everyone was flabbergasted, except Purvi.
"Can I please see Rohan now." Purvi said to the doctor breaking everyone out of their riviera.
"Of course but two people at a time. No more than that."
Purvi made her to Rohan's room.
"Excuse me, sir." The doctor said to Arjun.
"It's Arjun Kirloskar, doctor."
"Ok Mr. Kirloskar, if you'd like to follow me."
"Of course."
1 hour later...
The doctor walked in with Arjun's blood report.
"Mr. Kirloskar..."
