Chapter 48: Heartache Part 1
September 30^th, 2012: Deshmukh Residence, 8:00 a.m.
*in the living room*
Kunjal: Aunty, why did you call my parents here?
Archana: Voh mein baad mein bataungi. Pehle se pehle go get them water…
Kunjal: Haan lekin—
Archana: *smiles* Jao… *turns her toward the kitchen*
* in the kitchen*
Kunjal: Teju, why did Aunty call my parents here?
Teju: Mujhe kya pata hoga? I have no idea what goes on in that lady's mind.
Kunjal: I mean, if my parents would've came just like that, then it would've been fine, but Aunty called them here. Something's happening…
Teju: I sort of understand you. Here, I'll take the water to your parents.
Kunjal: *nods in consent*
*back in the living room*
Teju: Aunty, Uncle, here's some water.
Kunjal's mom: Thank you Teju.
Teju: Koi baat nahin.
Manav: Teju, idher aao na.
Teju: *walks over to Manav* Haan Baba?
Manav: *signals for her to come close and then whispers* Is Soham up yet?
Teju: *whispers back* Nahin, kyun?
Manav: Jao, go wake him up and get him here in the next 15 minutes.
Teju: *nods her head* Okay. I won't question your guys' logic. *walks away*
*back in the kitchen*
Kunjal: *pacing back and forth*
Kunjal's mom: What are you doing Kunjal?
Kunjal: *jumps* Ma! Kuch nahin. Aap log yahan kya kar rahe ho?
Kunjal's mom: That should be my question to you! You came here to stay with Purvi right?
Kunjal: Haan, toh?
Kunjal's mom: Lekin Purvi ki shaadi huyi. Why are you still here?
Kunjal: Ma, mein sirf Purvi ke liye nahin aayi thi. Everyone here is like a second family to me.
Kunjal's mom: Achcha?
Kunjal: Haan—stop changing the subject? Meri sawal ke baare mein kya?
Kunjal's mom: So you really want to know why we're here…?
Kunjal: Haan!
Kunjal's mom: Well…
*in Soham's room*
Teju: *slowly walks in* Soham! Soham! Dada get up! *shakes him*
Soham: *turns around but continues sleeping*
Teju: Dada! Get up! *keeps shaking him*
Soham: *mumbles* Let me sleep for a while longer na…
Teju: Arre! I don't have a while and apparently neither do you! Get up!
Soham: *turns around again and keeps sleeping*
Teju: *stands up* Pffft. He sleeps like a brick! Even water won't wake him up… huh! *gets an idea*
Teju walked around to the other side of the bed, which was luckily just a few inches from the wall. She laid down vertically on the bed, with her feet hard up against the wall. She pushed Soham off the bed until he fell on the ground on the other side.
Soham: *falls* Ow!
Teju: *jumps up* Shhh!
Soham: What was that for!?
Teju: Dada, you weren't waking up! I had to do something!
Soham: Why do I have to wake up?
Teju: Pata nahin, lekin aapki paas 10 minutes hain. You better be out there looking decent! Not your Friday night "at home" look! Samjhe?
Soham: What? 10 minutes? Lekin kyun?
Teju: Mujhe kuch pata nahin! Just do it! *walks out of the room leaving a confused Soham behind*
*back in the kitchen*
Kunjal: Ma! Just get to the point! We've been here for 5 minutes!
Kunjal's mom: Theek hain. Teri shaadi fix karne aayi hoon.
Kunjal: *jumps* What? Meri shaadi? Kab, kahan, kyun, what?
Kunjal's mom: Shant ho jaaye! Calm yourself down and get out there in 5 minutes okay?
Kunjal: Lekin Ma—
Kunjal's mom: No questions! Just do it! *walks out of the kitchen*
Kunjal: How do I calm down!? What the hell is happening here?
*15 minutes later in the living room*
Teju: Aai, I know that I would love doing this on my own, but please stop it na. I think they've had enough.
Archana: Oh, really?
Kunjal and Soham: *nod simultaneously*
Manav: Okay, fine. We'll stop.
Trisha: Okay so now that we've finally finished embarrassing both of them, can we all agree that three weeks from now is good?
*everyone agrees*
Trisha: Toh phir theek hain. It's set! They'll be getting married in three weeks. Kunjal, you stop with the shocked expression now.
Kunjal: *turns away*
*everyone laughs*

I think the craziest part of this all was that the three weeks flew by like nothing. Later that day, I took some of my stuff back to the home where my parents were staying. Over the next three weeks, I ended up so busy that I hardly had time to talk. As soon as Purvi found out she came crashing through my door, and she wouldn't stop talking.
When my mom called friends over and such, she wouldn't stop talking.
When my dad dealt with the preparations, he wouldn't stop talking.
When we did things like my mehndi and haldi, people just wouldn't stop talking.
When would I get a chance to talk?
No one understood why I was shocked that day. Yes, the embarrassment had subsided. I'm not that type. But I am the type of person that feels guilty. The worst part of it all was that I had no idea what to say. I couldn't talk to Soham for most of the time. Whenever there was time, people were always around. How do I tell him?
The guilt of him not knowing is slowly consuming me. You would think that I would be that excited, bubbly bride to be, but at this point I'm just quiet and shut up. I can't process this. I can't process that that day is already here. I can't process that he still doesn't know.
October 14^th, 2012: Sharma Residence, 9:00 p.m.
*in Kunjal's room*
Kunjal: *slowly getting ready*
Purvi: *knocks* Can I come in?
Kunjal: *nods in a dazed fashion*
Purvi: *easy going voice* Kunjal, you look amazing. But that scared expression on your face isn't helping.
Kunjal: *whispers* Purvi, I'm so scared.
Purvi: You don't need to be. Things will happen when the time is right. I need you to be happy now.
Kunjal: *whispers* I'm trying. It just doesn't work.
Purvi: Kunjal, I promise, whatever happens, I'll always be there for you. Okay, please cheer up for me? You're getting married, and that too, to the only guy on the planet that you love.
Kunjal: Right. *takes a deep breath*
Purvi: It's time. You ready?
Kunjal: I guess.

Things ran smoothly. Everyone was happy, and no one notices that fact that I was ready to break down. But it happened, we were married. We took rounds around the fire, and nothing happened. We were officially married, and nothing happened. But alas, luck was with my side for too long. I knew that when the truth was bound to be out, it would be out in the worst way possible.
It was my fault I didn't tell anyone. I was going to bear the pain for it.

Arjun: Purvi, nothing happened. You can ease the tensed feel you have.
Purvi: Pata hain, Arjun. But I'm still skeptic.
Arjun: There's no way out of it. Just relax, and things will be fine.
Purvi: *closes her eyes and takes a deep breath* I hope you're right.

Archana: Chalo, now I'm not forgetting anything, am i?
Purvi: I don't think so Aai…
*clapping in the background*
Ranvir: *walks in slowly* Lekin Miss Sharma—oops, Mrs. Deshmukh. Aap kuch bhul rahi ho. Mujhko achcha nahin lagta. Do you want me to tell them, ya phir khud karna chahti ho?
Purvi: Ranvir! Aap—stop it please!
Archana: Nahin, Purvi. Usko baat karne do. Kya matlab hain tumhara.
Ranvir: Mere matlab yeh tha ki—
Arjun: Ranvir, this isn't the time to—
Ranvir: Need I remind you Mr. and Mrs. Kirloskar that you've screwed things up before? Vaise bhi Purvi, it wouldn't be fair—especially to your brother, if you let him get married like this.
Purvi: Ranvir, please—
Soham: Purvi. Usko bolne do.
Ranvir: Thank you. You see bohot pehle se—
Kunjal: Ek minute. *through tears* Meri galti thi, so I'll take the blame for it.
Purvi: Lekin Kunjal—
Kunjal: Nahin Purvi, mujko a—aaj bolne do. *still weeping*
Kunjal went on explaining everything that had happened between her and Ranvir in the past, and slowly, everyone was shocked. Purvi continues standing there pale and angered, but wasn't able to interfere.

Archana: *now crying as well* Kunjal—
Purvi: Aai—
Archana: Aur tum—after knowing everything? Tum apni dost ki izat bachane ke liye teri zindagi parbad kar rahi thi?
Purvi: Aai lekin—
Archana: Nahin sunna chahti hoon! Tum use *points at Ranvir* shaadi karti toh kya? Aaj teri halat kaise hoti? Arjun nahin hota tere liye toh kya?
Purvi: *starts crying*
Archana: I ruined my son's life today aur tum yahan—
Arjun: Aunty—aunty please shant ho jaaye.
Archana: Arjun, mein kaise shant rahoon?
Arjun: Aunty, aapne Kunjal ko bolne bhi—
Archana: Nahin. Uski naam mat lena meri samne.
Purvi: Aai!
Archana: *walks off*
Slowly, everyone started filing out of the room. After Archana, Soham left angrily as well. Ranvir, having accomplished his goal, slipped out, as Savita and some of the remaining guests left. Kunjal's parents had left, heartbroken and angry. In the end, Teju, Purvi, Arjun and Kunjal were left standing. Teju slowly walked Kunjal out to the car, saying that it wasn't exactly safe for her to be here right now. Kunjal went home with the Kirloskars.

Precap: None! I'm just horrible, aren't I?
Well, as I said, once one mystery ties up, another one reveals itself. I never tied up whatever happened in the past with Kunjal/Ranvir/Purvi, and so now it's back. You won't find out what exactly happened for a while though. Soham and Kunjal are legally married, but how will they work about this major issue? What is the future like between them?
