Jyothi,
I am really sorry for being such a late
lateef, but I could see the episode only now, in its last repeat, so here I am at last. I shall make up for the delay by the extra warmth of my compliments to you for such a detailed, extremely well written, and affectionate post, which fully mirrors our very deep happiness at this auspicious event finally taking place, and without any hiccups. Plus one huge clap for the perfect title!👏👏
👏👏
The great advantage of coming in practically last is that everything one wanted to say has already been said by one or the other, so I need not exert myself unduly.
It was a gentle, intimate. affectionate and traditional ceremony - Ash, I agree with you 101% on this, and I only wish there had been a priest and some hauntingly lovely
shlokas had been chanted. But never mind, it was good enough as it was, and it had a certain seriousness and solemnity to it - no giggling hordes of girls, no silly jokes about the couple by relatives, no discordant presences like Manjusha and Vinod, and most of all, none of high decibel screeching contests that are
de rigueur for any major PR get together.
This last was manna from Heaven.
Jyothi, the bride never promises anything in our weddings, it is always the groom, and so by extension, it should be the same in the engagement ceremony as well, where there are no formal vows anyway. We women are thus well off in India, and cannot be held to account for any subsequent lapses on our part!
Now for my cribs. The engagement segment and the last little scene out in the verandah between the two together came to only 8.5 minutes, whereas the Vishnu-Varsha scene alone was fully 7 minutes! Then there was the telecon between Vishnu and Yadav, another 2 minutes plus. It was so lopsided that it was not funny.
It gave the whole engagement a very slapdash, rushed air; they did not even show the couple taking blessings from anyone except Archana. What about DK, Sulochana. Damodar and Vandu? Moreover, Archana's saying that Purvi should be so loved in her
sasuraal that she should forget her
maayka, and also her mother and her
aaji sounded very strange. Why should she forget anyone just because she is so happy in her married home? I also agree that Arjun should have been given some fresh lines; surely he does not have to repeat himself on such an important occasion!
A more elaborate and richer
sherwani for Arjun would not have come in amiss - DK's was far better - though Arjun does not need such props to look splendid,
nazar na lage hamare bachche ko! And I think Purvi would have looked even nicer in another, rich saree with some more jewellery - surely DK would have splurged on his daughter-in-law-to be? The pink of the second outfit was like a faint blush that could have done with a lot of rouge.
Also, the scene in the verandah too could have done with some better lines; the kind of
nok jhok that they show any time the two are together these days - like the mock angry one when she was waiting for him earlier in the day - is a tad childish and too much like the Hindi films of 20 years ago. I cannot believe that a young, modern couple, both confident and go-getting, and who moreover know each other VERY well by now, cannot find anything better to say to each other than this inane, predictable stuff, with nudging and shoving to boot.
I think the PR CVs should be sent to the sets of the very oddly named
Love Marriage ya Arranged Marriage, which started only last week on Sony, to learn how to write intelligent, easy-going, comfortably affectionate, and yet substantial love scenes. If they go on at the present rate, the all too infrequent and, when they do turn up, all too brief Arjun-Purvi scenes will become carbon copies one of the other.
Never mind all these could have beens or should have beens. The only important thing is that Arjun and Purvi are now formally and publicly a couple.
Unlike you folks, I liked the Vishnu solo and Vishnu-Varsha scenes. A few more of these and Vishnu will be ready to take on the likes of Robert de Niro. I am naturally gratified that he is fast developing along the lines I had predicted, and I was greatly amused to see Janhvi's selective indignation when he threatens her
ladli Janhvi, surely it is not ok with you when he carries off other people's
ladlis and
ladlas? This said, the idea of him barging into the Karanjkar residence and kidnapping Purvi, as he apparently plans to do, boggles the mind, as does Yadav's talk of non-bailable warrants, which had me in stitches when I remembered how the CVs got Vishnu his bail last week!
Finally, Jyothi, don't worry about Vishnu breaking his
vachan to his
mayee not to touch Purvi and her family (which should, technically, include not only Manav, as he thinks Manav is her father, and Ovi, but our boy wonder as well). He had sworn it on her head,
uski kasam li hai, and he will NEVER break such a promise. The CVs wil have to look elsewhere for the spoiler.

Our boy deserves some promises from her too, given voluntarily not only when asked by him..😉
