Jyoti,

That was the total of all the tips he had got in 2/3 days, including the Rs. 50/- from DK. Not bad!

Jyoti,

The very fact that Archana's outbursts are getting to be more and more irrational and hyper - as you have brought out so clearly - only shows that she is feeling more and more desperate.

What about? That when Arjun turns up with the Rs.10000/- and she has to agree to their getting married (unless she shifts the goal posts; I would not put it beyond her), then her role in all this will come out, willy nilly, Savita will have a field day and Manav will go back to his original Hate Archana position. There would be no change in Ovi, but Archana would then lose any chance she had of doing a Teju on her as well (till recently, that is, for there has been considerably slippage there too).

Moreover, the kind of ugly things she tells Arjun also seem to me to indicate the kind of person she is, or she has become. There are things that a civilised person does not say, and there are ways in which a civilised person does not behave, no matter what the provocation. Just look at DK. He never raises his voice under any circumstances, and his silences are all the more deadly for that. Archana's behaviour is quite the opposite, and what does it tell us about her, everything else apart? That she is lacking in both good breeding and good sense.

The way in which Arjun responds to her tirades, in contrast, shows how well bred he is. In fact, the boy is quite unbelievable. For someone born to wealth, power and privilege, to not just avoid the trap of becoming a Casanova, but also to be ready to brave physical hardship for his loved one, plus having infinite patience for her mother's rudeness and her insults: it is incredible. As for all the Arjun-bashers in this forum, if they could get such a paragon as a damaad, I would like to see who would not jump at it. I only have a son, but if I had a daughter, I would have done an Olympic standard high jump for him!

The most insulting part of Archana's conversation to Arjun was when she said "What are u going to feed Purvi? You cannot afford to feed urself? you dont even have a house..." ..The gal of her...

where did she and manav start their lives? What was manav when she got married? Wasnt he a lowly mechanic too? Actually, if I understand right, he didnt have a job for a while and they did starve...Didnt they and they still do live in a chawl.
Anyway, is Arjun starving without food?... Purvi didnt bring him food because he was starving, sulo sent home cooked food. He does have a house to live in. Doesnt she think her daughter can live in a chawl?
I didnt understand the logic behind what she said...If she wants to talk about trust, fine. But, all this talk about affording to feed her daughter..come on...

Dear bee5,

I agree. To give Archana the maximum benefit of the doubt, this reason for her carrying on in this fashion might be subconscious, and she might, on the surface of her mind,be kidding even herself that her sole motivation is to protect Purvi from a big bad wolf. I have never heard of a wolf taking all this trouble to catch a prey, but never mind that.

None of this matters for us. The only thing that matters is that she will be against Arjun any time and every time. Purvi of course will continue in the silent suffering mode.

While on this, did you see the way in which Archana was dragging Purvi to the door and saying that if she wanted to see Arjun so badly, she should go and stay with him? It reminded me of the old, melodramatic Indian films of the 60s and 70s, when erring daughters were dragged by their father and cast out of their home for having dared to fall in love with someone not chosen by their parents. Such UGLY, low class behaviour! All that has vanished from our films long ago, but apparently it thrives on TV. In this respect, Manav is a far better parent to his daughters than Archana is to her daughter. At least he never gets physical, and he is understanding and accommodating with them.

Let us see if there is any change for the better in either respect - wrt both Purvi and/or Archana - after Arjun is shoved behind the bars today.

Dear Shyamala,
I know she has been telling that she doesn't want him for either Ovi or Purvi, but somehow when Sulo cornered her today and told her that she is deliberately turning blind-eye and wanted her to understand that she is only thinking about Ovi-Teju and not Purvi, she starts to cry and defend herself and then states that I am doing this for Purvi's good, ... I felt like it is not really what she is saying is the truth, there is something else in her mind. She very much wants to redeem herself in the eyes of Manav and Ovi for what Purvi has done (according to her) and wants to somehow fill the gap of 18yrs of love that she could not give it to Ovi and that is only possible if she could return the toy back to Ovi from Purvi.

I too am not sure what to make of her unreasonable behavior, but to me, today, in that scene, it looked like that.

Dear bee5,

I am afraid that I have no idea WHAT she wants, except that she does NOT want Purvi to marry Arjun. That seems to be the one fixed point in Archana's firmament, like the Pole Star. Whether she would want Arjun to go back to Ovi, I don't know. She says not, but that might mean nothing.

@purple - You are absolutely right about Archana's behavior. Her rude way of talking to people is just irritating to me. She constantly barks when she gets the chance. DK is a classy character even if he's made some mistakes. His calm demeanor reflects in his dialogue delivery. Archana assumes that Arjun is some kind of playboy but of course we know that Arjun is far better than what Archana shows herself to be. I liked the way he answered her about her being able to control Purvi's actions but not her emotions. The way she was behaving with him, I kind of wanted him to speak in measured tones to Archana since she only seems to understand in that rude abrasive way she talks to people and makes them cower (like Purvi especially, who seems to be on the receiving end of Archana's bites nowadays). But I'm glad that he spoke to her in the way he did. It wasn't exactly too saccharine (except for the part where he ran out with the sugar for muh mithai ). It contrasts Archana's rude behavior with his own respectful behavior towards her. I fear for Arjun now. Manav had to deal with Sulo when he married Archana and now Arjun will have to deal with Archana.

I also feel that Arjun loves Purvi way more than she loves him. I wonder if the CVs ever plan to show the depth of her love for Arjun. The way she behaves makes me feel pity for Arjun who gave up his life of comforts to prove himself to her dear mummy (and in the process is getting whipped with MIL's stinging barbs). It seems to be a trend now to have the beloved male hero go missing for a few days while the heroine goes and searches for him and realizes her immense love for him (i.e. Hitler Didi, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, and Punar Vivah). Maybe the CVs should consider a track in which Arjun goes missing and Purvi has to find him. But if Purvi's character is to remain the way she is, then I have no hopes for Arjun ever being saved. Most likely, Purvi would just assume that she and Arjun were never meant to be and let it go and so would end her prem kahani.

Dear Nina,

I am so glad you agree with me on this. I am becoming quite depressed with the way Archana is behaving these days (so, I suspect, would poor Ankita be!). It shows a sad lack of breeding. We all feel that Savita is insupportably crude and rude, but if Archana continues like this, she will soon be giving Savita a run for her money.

This side of Archana only comes out with those who she knows will not answer back, like Purvi and, to a lesser extent, Arjun, but not with Teju or Ovi or Sachin, no matter how rude they are to her. That is why I was SO glad that Arjun gave it back to her yesterday, very politely but very categorically. I also noticed that when he talked of his Mom, there was not even the slightest softening of Archana's expression. So much for her loving Aashana!

@ red
. That is absolutely correct, though not many in this forum will accept it. I have always believed that in any romantic relationship, there is one who loves, and one who is loved. Here , as I noted above in my response to Laurie:

Arjun loves her, and Purvi lets herself be loved. That is all. I dare say she does love him back, but it is not with the kind of visceral emotion that will not be denied, and she probably never will. There is no room for any deewanapan in her makeup; it she had been Juliet, Shakespeare would have expired of a broken heart! But hey, if she, with all her reservations and sanskaars, is what Arjun wants, then that is his fate, and who am I to object!

But what I will not do is to find excuses for the girl for whom he comes pretty much last on her list of priorities. I like spirited young women who will fight for what they want, and at least try to convince their recalcitrant elders when they are plainly in the wrong. What now is the difference between Purvi - behaving like a German motorist stopping at a red light at 1 am when there is no other car in sight for half a mile - and Archana, whose permanent location these days is apparently behind the kitchen door at the Deshmukhs', peeping out with tearful eyes? Nothing at all.

I am not sure that this state of affairs will change any time soon, but if Purvi does display for Arjun even 10% of the obsession he has for her, perhaps when he is put behind bars today, that would really be something to cheer. Not for Purvi, but for Arjun. It might be all right to start with, but in the long run, this discrepancy between what he feels for her and what she feels for him will start chafing him, and it will erode their relationship,. This apart, he deserves to be loved as he loves.

Shyamala, I agree. Arjun deserves to be loved as much as he loves her. I do hope that this Arjun heading off to jail track awakens something in Purvi and that she does show how much she loves him. I don't recall the book that I read this sentence in, but here it is:

"Love me half as much as I love you and all will be well." Well it was something to that effect.

I came across these lyrics of a song titled "Half as Much" -

If you love me half as much as I love you
You wouldn't worry me half as much as you do

I think these lines are apt for Arjun and Purvi. Arjun is happy with however much he thinks Purvi loves him but there will come a time when he realizes that she doesn't love him as much. I do hope that time never comes and she shows him that he means just as much to her, if not more (even half will do).

Nina, What a very apt quotation! Let us hope that Purvi reaches at least the 25% mark this evening, and we shall then wait patiently for the half way mark!

Right now, i would take any percentage as long as her love shows and ofcourse, condition being Purvi stands up for Arjun !!! Else, dont care how high it is !!!

I know that we are being hard on Purvi, but what she needs now for our boy's sanity is "tough love"" from us... No more understanding ...
