@red. Let us get a little into specifics, please. Just what does he have to do, over and above what he is already doing, to prove himself? Stage a genuine hunger strike in a tambu opposite the Karanjkar residence? So many of us keep repeating this mantra without giving any specific idea of WHAT he has to do to 'prove himself'. It is neat and facile, but it serves no purpose.

As for Archana, she made it clearer than ever today that she does NOT want him to prove himself. She wants him to fail, and pretty soon she might start thinking up ways to ensure this.

The fact is that when she rashly issued that challenge, she badly underestimated Arjun's guts and his determination. She is beginning to realise this now. That is why she is now trying to reassure herself by asserting to Purvi, every chance she gets, that Arjun is going to flunk the test as he is a softie and cannot take the stress of a garage job and chawl life. It is like whistling in the dark to keep your spirits up.

So, Archana believes that Arjun will fail because she wants him to fail. That would suit her much better, otherwise, as she tells Sulochana after that ghastly scene when she slapped and berated Purvi, what face would she show to Manav and Ovi?

But then what of Purvi? Archana - since she can, by definition, do no wrong - does not want to feel guilty about the suffering this will cause Purvi. What then is the way out? Why, just declare that Purvi is not in love with Arjun, she simply 'thinks' that she is in love with him! It is like what Humpty Dumpty says in Alice in Wonderland, " A word means what I say it means, neither more nor less".

Finally, as for Purvi leaving home and going to live with Arjun (presumably after marriage, seeing how sanskaari she is), today it was Archana who asked her to go and live with Arjun for char din, and she would see for herself that he was not a sahi ladka! That was when I began to think that she had lost it. She has a char din fixation, and she seems well on the way to becoming as obsessed with Arjun as Ovi, of course for different reasons.

The boy cheeked her in style today, pointing out that she could control Purvi's actions but not her emotions, and could decide whom Purvi would marry but not whom she would love. I was standing up and cheering him and his little accounts notebook!

I agree with the topic maker too.

Arjun and Purvi's circumstances are different. Arjun has his dad on his side so he doesnt have to fear or worry about anything. on the other hand, Purvi has a lot to fear and loose. her mother's family that she has been praying for can be broken because of her (there is nothing that is not broken already from our point of view, but this is purvi's point of view i am talking about :)..) anyways even if one puts oneself in archana's position, for her arjun is the guy who cheated her one daughter so no mother would want to marry him off to another. he has to prove himself.. if she leaves home like arjun did and went to leave with him, it is archana who will suffer the most and thats the last thing her ONLY good kid will do to her.. she may love arjun unconditionally but she cant do that for her mother doesnt matter if this is an adopted child or not.. they relation is and will always be of real mom and daughter.

i was hoping Teju would come around and tell archana the history of arjun and ovi and explain to her that purvi is his first love. but i dont have any hopes on that considering that teju was actually hoping archana to tell purvi to stay away as she promised savita.

i dont want to blame teju for her behaviour because it is all savita's doing and the facts in front of her doesnt help the situation either.

YES, Shyamala... !! Our boy said it all !!! He showed poise, was calm, collected and stated his convictions the best..Archana just did not know what to say to that. He definitely needs to be applauded for it..👏
Sulo was good, asked her daughter what needed to be asked. As always, Archana didnt have an answer to a straight question, and just turned to Purvi and turned on the tap with emotional blackmail.. And, as always, this girl fell for them...

Dear bee5,

I am afraid that I have no idea WHAT she wants, except that she does NOT want Purvi to marry Arjun. That seems to be the one fixed point in Archana's firmament, like the Pole Star. Whether she would want Arjun to go back to Ovi, I don't know. She says not, but that might mean nothing.

From our point of view, the only relevant thing is that she will block Arjun at every turn. Even fate seems to favour her; look at the way in which she landed up just in time to see Purvi knocking at Arjun's door! If she had taken an auto, there would have been a very nice scene of Arjun-Purvi sharing the contents of that tiffin carrier, and Purvi could have got back home safely as well.

Incidentally, Arjun would obviously be good at doing the dishes - the carrier was spotlessly clean - unless Churan did that for him.

I was shocked at that behavior of Archana, today.
Yeah, Archana cried and I started to melt a bit 😆
But at that point didn't it look like Archana is hell bent on getting that favorite toy for Ovi come hell or high water? 😲

Purvi is never going to find "her true independence" because Archana is never going to agree to her marrying Arjun. Today, Sulochana asked her, in effect, why she was bothering only about Ovi and not about Purvi, which brought her up short and made her a tad defensive. But then, when Sulochana asked her again what she would do if and when Arjun made good and turned up with the dowry, she avoided the obvious answer, and instead insisted that he would never be able to do it.

Well, that seemed to me to indicate that she will do anything she can to avoid delivering on her side of the bargain, by hook or by crook. Purvi did nothing but stand around with tear-filled eyes and look petrified of her mother. By now, I am SICK of the pair of them, and I find myself wondering why Arjun did not fall for Teju, instead of for this aai-obsessed girl . Sari duniya me yehi ladki mili thi kya?

'Once she's got Archana's blessing (which might still be a while) sky's the limit". It will be a good lo...ong while, and more like never, but 'limit' for what? If it is for demonstrativeness, then there is no difference between Purvi and the hordes of standard issue bahus and betis who populate our soaps. One may have put up with that, but for Heaven's sake, Laurie, do not make a virtue of it! You, of all people!

Shyamala

Please don't shoot 😳 🤣 I mean no harm! *** Waves white flag ***
I only said that because not too long ago I voiced the same frustrations on another thread 🤣
Maybe I'm the one that's overshooting here and I will be the first to admit that too - only having been a spectator of Indian soaps for about six months now and not really versed in the convoluted whims of the CVs 😆
It does seem like Archana's slighting Arjun but he will rise to any challenge as he does not like to lose and this is the most important challenge of his life.
I must admit that I am hopeful for Purvi's strength based on my own life's perceptions 🤣 My parents raised us girls to be strong, independent, self respecting women and looking at these shows really boggles the mind.
So I was hoping to send Purvi some strength - telepathically of course! 😉
Or maybe by osmosis - since she's forever in the rain now 🤣
Agreed! Arjun and Purvi sharing a meal would have really been a sight to see 😍
And, Shyamala Aunty, if I haven't told you lately - YOU ARE A ROCKSTAR!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Abso loved this!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I think I scared my neighbor in the office next to mine as my door was open when I said, "Bravo Arjun!"
She came in all curious and nosy 🤣
I really need to stop those 'Arjun' outbursts - one day its going to get me in trouble. So far I'm 2 - 0 🤣

The most insulting part of Archana's conversation to Arjun was when she said "What are u going to feed Purvi? You cannot afford to feed urself? you dont even have a house..." ..The gal of her...
where did she and manav start their lives? What was manav when she got married? Wasnt he a lowly mechanic too? Actually, if I understand right, he didnt have a job for a while and they did starve...Didnt they and they still do live in a chawl.
Anyway, is Arjun starving without food?... Purvi didnt bring him food because he was starving, sulo sent home cooked food. He does have a house to live in. Doesnt she think her daughter can live in a chawl?
I didnt understand the logic behind what she said...If she wants to talk about trust, fine. But, all this talk about affording to feed her daughter..come on...

that little notebook ...
I hope he is keeping track of Chawl's monthly rent, electricity bill, water bill (though it might be from gali-ka-nal, but they all might definitely have to pay something monthly) and other expenses as well 😆 ...

Yeah, seriously I was stunned at that audacity of hers!
She forgot there was a time when they did not have anything to eat and did not even have a place to live and roamed on roads and finally ended up in a slum with beggars. That night the beggar lady was kind enough to see Archana's condition and give her food and water.
That was their state and she seems to have clearly forgotten all those days.

He had sugar though - atleast Arjun and Purvi's life together would be full of sweetness 🤣
Maybe he should have a 'surprise wedding party' at his place after he gets his 10,000 rupees and invite the whole gang! That would be hilarious 🤣
Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to celebrate the union of Arjun and Purvi! 🤣
