Hi Archana,

Also another point, AK's "It's going to be okay" is more looking towards Purvi and reassuring her that he will eventually solve everything, sab theek kar doonga...so i think it was not as much to Ovi as to Purvi...where his heart lies...

Have a nice night...off to sleep now, early start tomorrow.
😊

Yup...agree 100% abhi...in fact, Shyamala pointed this out in her earlier post,..that he said it more for Purvis benefit than Ovi's.

Bedtime soon for me too...have to work tomorrow also but will probably be on the forum first thing tomorrow and will definitely be watching out for tomorrow episode update!! what can I say...-addicted...

abhimg, good to know your perspective, gives me something to think about and feel better about Mr. Arjun 😊 Tell me, why did he smile at Ovi? not a forced smile but a warm sharing smile? I re-watched that several times 😔 She is his friend but the mood he is supposed to be in, he shouldn't be in any frame of mind to exchange such a smile with Ovi😭Arch, here too, need to be get to bed, off to work tomorrow and you are two hours ahead of me! But like you will be checking IF before I roll out of bed even.

Dear Archana and Abhi,

I have kept off this thread till now except for a single brief post, since I do not agree with most of what has been said here and I saw no reason to inflict my sharply contrary views on the assemblage, which was obviously mostly of one mind.

But I liked both your posts a lot; they are really very sound. Carefully analysed and backed up by a meticulous scrutiny of the episode, as also by facts from PR I.

This said, to my mind the single important point from the Friday episode. which I had emphasised in my post of that day about faint but hopeful signs, was Purvi's thinking to herself, even BEFORE she gets Arjun's SMS, that this was why he had not been able to talk to Ovi about them the evening before. That obviously marked the beginning of the revival of understanding in her mind of why Arjun is doing (or not doing) what he is. It thus represents, to my mind, a break from the all pervasive bitterness and distrust that had poisoned her attitude towards him, even though she loves him no less.

And yes, both of you, when Arjun says "Don't worry, it'll be ok" , it is seemingly addressed to Ovi about her case, but he is looking at Purvi as he says it and she does not miss the real meaning.

Abhi, you can skip the rest, for I had written it in a reply to you on a different thread (God, it is confusing with so many threads!). I thought Archana (and anyone else reading this post) might like to see it.

Now we are waiting with bated breath to see what Purvi will reply when Archana asks her about "the girl who is trying to snatch away my daughter's happiness". If she tells the truth, the consequences will be unpredictable but definitely dismaying. If she dissembles, she will then realise that it is not so easy to come clean after all, and she might come to have some sympathy and understanding for Arjun's predicament.

This said, I have always felt that Arjun should have found some way of cornering Ovi, lugging her to a really quiet place sans Teju, and told her the truth very kindly but firmly. This more than anything else because he knows her since forever, and obviously has a soft corner for her and does not want to hurt her more than he can help. This is the reason for all that hesitation and throat clearing that has, so far, never come to anything. He feels sorry for her more than for Purvi, though the knows how much Purvi will be suffering, because, as you, Archana, pointed out, he firmly believes, indeed he knows, that Purvi and he will be together in the end, whereas Ovi is going to be left out in the cold. We think that Ovi's love for Arjun is a childish infatuation, but you cannot expect the object of this love to share this viewpoint, especially not when she looks up at him and says that she loves him and that he is her life. The sense of guilt for not being able to love her in return would, as you (Archana) had explained so lucidly, be acute, and this paralyses him.

However, he does not seem to have grasped the simple fact that the longer this charade is maintained, the more Ovi will be hurt when the truth comes out. But then, it is typical of a man to avoid unpleasantness as long as he can, and when I say this, it is despite (and perhaps because of ) the fact that, as Sir Humphrey Appleby (of Yes Minister) says in the opposite context, most of my friends have been and are men.

Shyamala

PS: I truly enjoy being part of this forum and the very lively exchanges of views in it. But one thing puzzles me: why is everyone always so politically correct, and apologetic in advance for whatever is being said her/his post, stressing that it is not intended to upset anyone? Of course one cannot be abusive or vulgar or indulge in behaviour otherwise unacceptable under the forum rules. But surely each and everyone of us should have the freedom to voice her/his views in polite language, without having to apologise for it in advance? If I say that I like one actor more than another, why should that be objectionable? I do not mean that we should imitate British Parliamentarians, whose facility with colourful language would put a sailor on shore leave to shame, but we need not walk on eggshells all the time either, need we?

Good post abhi...I agree as well...i think Arjun acted as.best as he could without giving anything away.I don't think we can compare this situation with Manav/Archana for this reason. Everyone obviously knew about Manav/Archana and what they meant to each other...Archana was sacrificing for the sake of Sachin- to give him legitimacy. The situation was enirely different...However, nobody has any idea about Purvi (except Punni of course). Arjun cannot behave like Manav did...there is no way he can go beyond the eye locks and looks without making it obvious. They cannot openly pine for each other like Manav//Archana.

As to Ovi,,,same thing...he can't refuse to meet her under the present circumstances. And there is no way to compare his feelings for Ovi/Purvi...the "it's ok it's ok" is just the way he talks...his style...has nothing to do with either of the actually, Just my perspective and take 😊 Not trying to upset anyone,,,We r all friends here and in some cases we just have to "agree to disagree!"

Shyamala, agree with you on the postscript 100%.
Off to bed now, looking forward to tomorrow 's merriment on PR, Punni's nakras perhaps? Arch finding out from Ovi? Purvi spilling the beans to her mom? Becca's BPL from Purvi to Arjun? (like that new term BPL 😆 ) Tons of possibilities await us this week!

Dear Jai (if I may),

Thanks ever so much for such very kind words. I do enjoy writing in the forum, and even more so reading the various posts with their varying viewpoints. Please do not think that I am saying this just because you have been so very nice to me, but I have always felt that your posts are full of the utmost good sense, and are lucid and consistent. These are qualities that are always as much in demand as they are rare, and we are lucky to have you here.

I too am a PR I veteran, for I had retired from the diplomatic service by 2009, when it started. I was determined not to abandon it in midstream as I had done routinely in the past with other serials, no matter what. So I clung on till the chawl demolition period, when I was so irritated with Archana that I quit temporarily. Now of course I am back after the leap, initially out of sheer curiosity, and then out of a growing fascination for Arjun and Purvi.

You know, with all its obvious shortcomings, I feel strongly that PR II is better than PR I. You might not agree, but that is because, as the psychologists say, the memory for pain is much shorter than that for happiness. So one tends to remember the sweet scenes between Manav and Archana (of course they were married, and so there was more scope for such scenes; for Arjun-Purvi, there is no scope for such tender exchanges at all any more, except for the odd flashback).

Then again, Archana is really beautiful, and she has the rare and very useful ability to look stunning even when she is crying buckets of tears. Poor Purvi , despite her delicate facial bone structure and her intelligent looks, is nowhere near Archana in either respect. The original Manav too was tall and really handsome (even if the single pair of trousers they stuck him with looked as though they were being held up by sheer will power, and might fall down at the first tug), far more than his successor and even Arjun ( though the latter has a strong resemblance to the young Steve McQueen or a somewhat less handsome Brad Pitt; he is more Western in his looks than Indian). The two together had a unique chemistry strengthened by their off screen closeness. That is not at all there now, nor can we expect it. But Arjun-Purvi offer substantial compensation!

To revert, in contrast to the tender love scenes from PR I that one remembers so well, the memory of the villainies of Manju and Rasika and Ajit and Dharmesh and the ubiquitous Savita is somewhat faded, and stands out in much less sharp relief. But the truth is that each was worse than the other, and their villainy was unrelenting. And they were NEVER brought to book. So we cannot now complain that Punni is getting away scot free after the MMS episode. Punni is NOTHING in comparison to those stalwarts of PR I!

Moreover, the fact is that there were VERY ugly happenings in PR I : Archana practically being accused of being a call girl and Rs.20000/- stuffed into her handbag as proof; Manju getting the whole Deshmukh family jailed and badly beaten up on a false domestic violence charge, and Sachin's death as a result of this; Archana losing her baby because no one from her parivaar, even her sister Varsha, would help though they all had the money; Manju throwing her mother -in-law literally out into the streets. and her husband not lifting a finger to look for his mother... the list is a long one.

By comparison, not only is PR II far milder in the suffering quotient, but we are spared having to watch the insufferable Dharmesh, Ajit, Rasika and the rest, and we see much, much less of Savita, though even this is too much for me. Then there is the unique freshness and charm of the Arjun-Purvi pairing. Of course the constant moping by Arjun-Purvi on the one hand and Manav-Archana on the other IS exasperating, but all things taken into account , my vote would be for PR II.

In fact, I am thinking of doing a separate post on this PR I vs PR II comparison, and as and when i I get round to it, the reaction that I would value and, I am sure, enjoy, would be yours!

Shyamala

Shyamala,
Oooh yes on Arjun's looks...i love Arjun (and i do love Purvi too)...your characterization of Arjun- "though the latter has a strong resemblance to the young Steve McQueen or a somewhat less handsome Brad Pitt; he is more Western in his looks than Indian."
Loved it...

Hi Janhvi,
Arre ek smile to Ovi se kya hota hai, our dearest Arjun has given his whole heart and soul to our dearest Purvi 😉
Am waiting curiously to find out who brings ARVI into the open - first of all who brings it out- if Punni or not, and if Punni, then what benefit does she have in shielding Purvi's name? Or was it DK who did it on purpose so Ovi can think a little and understand her so called childhood friend and instead of being so focused on delicate self, she can empathise with the emotions of Arjun who has not once reciprocated her feelings...

Abhimg, even one smile is one too many for me 😆
That would be too sensible of a storyline to pursue for the CVs, making DK think logically and making Ovi realize her one sided fascination for Arjun.
Looks like we have to suffer through a sacrifice track (hate those with a passion), Arjun has temporarily lost his chance to set things right, he should have when he had the opportunity but he chickened out, now Purvi is treading the same path as her mother, and we have to endure, sigh!
