Neil came to Saroj's house with Naeem bi to give Mini’s bridal dress. Mini opened the door, gave polite smile to Naeem bi and called her mom and dad and went inside her room without even looking back. Neil didn’t like it that he came and Mini instead of sitting there with them went inside but he also noticed she was upset. Neil gave them Mini’s dress and Babita praised it a lot while Saroj look at it like she will burn a hole in the dress by her jealousy. She touched the fine fabric and delicate work. She couldn’t even guess how much it would have cost. “Such an elegant dress that too for that jhalli Mini.” Saroj thought. Babita called Mini, “Mini, come beta look at your dress.” Mini had to come out after that. She looked around there was no empty place to sit except on sofa beside Neil. She sat there quitely. Neil noticed she didn’t even look at him. Soon the elderly people were all engrossed in their talks. Babita took the ladies in her room to show them the shopping while Hanuman Singh interacted with Neil for some time and then he went to the balcony to attend an important call.

“Are you upset today?” asked Neil as hecouldn’t bear her silent treatment anymore. “Shouldn’t I be?” asked Mini directly looking at him. “Why is that?” asked Neil not getting her question.“See, I know you told me you don’t like silly romance but I thought a small 'Hii’ message would not be a problem. You could have atleast replied or said you were busy instead of ignoring it.” replied Mini. “What? You messaged me? When?” asked Neil utterly confused. “Don’t pretend now. I messaged you in the morning you read it around 3.00pm but still you didn’t reply.” Mini complained.“Really? I don’t get any message….wait a minute at which number you messaged me. Is it the one ending with 777?” asked Neil now understanding the whole situation. “Yes it was the same number. Why?” asked Mini. “From where did you get that number?” asked Neil again. “Well…I didn’t have your number and I was too shy to ask it from mom or dad so I searched you on facebook and took the number from your profile.” Replied Mini hesitantly. “That’s my professional number you stupid girl. I handle an IT giant company. I cannot display my personal number in any kind of social media profile. That is for official communication or press only and that mobile is handled by my secretary.” Clarified Neil as he snatched her phone from her hands. He swiped to unlock it. “Too bad you don’t keep you phone locked. Swipe lock is too weak you should use password for or finger scan for it.” He kept blabbering as he saved his personal number in her mobile. “See, this is my personal number. If you want to talk to me so badly that you feel upset when you don’t get reply then kindly call or message on this number.” Neil said again as he handed over her phone back. “Hey, I wasn’t desperate to talk to you ….ok.” Mini said in her defense. “Ya I can see that.” Replied Neil sarcastically. “Don’t take that tone on me….and you called me stupid girl earlier….how dare you?”asked Mini as she pointed a finger at him. “Because you are stupid. I said I don’t like to be disturbed every now and then in office. I don’t have problem with one or two calls or few messages especially from you.” Said Neil as he caught her finger forcing Mini to pulled back her hand.

“Especially from me? What does that mean?” asked Mini innocently. “How dumb you can be? In case you forgot you are my fiancée.” Neil said the obvious thing. “Stop it Neil Oberoi….first you called me stupid and now dumb. Tell me how am gonna know that it is ok to call you when you were sulking about how clingy girls can get on the day of our first meeting.” Asked Mini as she folded her hands in front of her chest. “But you are not any random girl. You are going to be my wife.” Said Neil as he rolled his eyes. Mini was out of words for sometime. “Why this man is so weird? First he says something then he himself contradicts it giving some weird logic. Will I ever be able to understand him completely?” Mini thought. Neil snapped his fingers in front of her. “Why you keep getting lost in thoughts every now and then. You talk so much to yourself. You know its really annoying.” Said Neil frustrated. Mini lost her cool after that. First, stupid then dumb now annoying this man is insulting me again and again, “You wanna know what I am thinking? I was thinking that my best friend Preet kaure was right. You are a weird man. You are unpredictable and mercurial. I was happy without talking to you but no she had to put all sorts of ideas in my head.” Said Mini venting out her frustration. “What kind of ideas?” asked Neil now suddenly interested. “Stupid ideas like Mini he is your fiancé you should talk to him. Haww engagement ho gayi and he didn’t even kiss you till now” blurted out Mini without thinking as she mimicked Preet. “So you want me to kiss you?” asked Neil raising his eyebrow at her. Mini closed her eyes in embarrassment as she realized what she just blurted out. “Oh so thats why you were so worked up and frustrated.” Said Neil as he smirked at her. Mini became even more embarrassed that she couldn’t look at him in the eyes. “Listen forget it ok….lets pretend it didn’t happen….I didn’t say anything and you didn’t hear anything.” Mini stammered. “Why…I heard it clearly.” Neil said as he teased her. He continued further, “See I am not an almighty being to know whats going in your mind. If you want something from me you have to ask for it specifically.” Mini wanted to dig a hole in earth and hide in it to save herself from embarrassment and his teasing. “Listen….please….forget….” Mini stammered again but he interrupted her, “Now that you have voiced your desire, its my responsibility to fulfill it.” said Neil. He then looked around the room. They were alone there. He quickly leaned towards her and placed a soft kiss on her lips. Mini’s eyes went wide in shock. She was too stunned to react and before she knew he distanced himself sat straight on his sofa chair. Mini kept looking at him for few seconds. “F**k”, was all that she could say. “For that, I am sorry, but you have to wait till marriage” said Neil as he chuckled at her. Mini gave him a confused look as she didn’t get it what he meant for few seconds and when its meaning finally sunk in she became beetroot red in embarrassment.

Singh family left for Patiala next day and became busy in wedding preparations. One month passed very quickly and the wedding date came near. Mini and Neil was now comfortable with talking over on phone and watsapp. Mini still avoided calling him often. They just messaged each other. Though he talked very less but Mini was happy with whatever interaction she had with him. One night Mini was sitting with her parents. Babita was applying oil in her hair and Hanuman Singh was making tea for them.They were enjoying and laughing on random jokes, talking about wedding preparations and all, in short they were enjoying their family time. Hanuman Singh brought tea for them. He offered one cup to Mini when Mini’s phone rang. She was surprised to see it was from Neil. She immediately got up excused herself as she started to go. Hanuman Singh kept calling her to stop or atleast take the tea cup with her but she said its Neil’s call and went inside her room. Hanuman kept looking at her direction longingly. Babita saw him and took the tea cup from his hand, “What happened? Yoon achanak kis soch mein pad gaye aap?” asked Babita gesturing him to sit in front of her so that she can apply oil to his hair. “Nothing, was wondering our daughter has changed a lot. She never use to refuse my tea previously as its her favourite but today Neil’s call came and she just went away. She didn’t even look back at me.” Hanuman said as he sat in front of Babita. “She is young and her marriage is fixed, at such times girls have so many things going on in their head. And after all it was Neil’s call. She needs privacy to talk to him.” Babita explained as she took oil in her hands. “But did I ever stop her from talking to Neil? And she is going to be with him forever in few days. So she should spend all of her time with us till then.” Hanuman complained like a kid.

“Look at you. All grumpy. Are you jealous from Neil?” Babita laughed as she applied oil on his hair. “May be a little”confessed Hanuman. “Seriously? Stop being so dramatic. Whats there to feel jealous?” asked Babita as she started massaging his scalp. “Why shouldn’t I? My little doll who till now never missed my tea and our family time now gives priority to Neil’s call over us. Remember how she used to take my side whenever we used to fight. That day when Saroj was questioning Neil’s intention she took his side in the same way. I was her hero till now but I guess Neil has replaced me.” Said Hanuman as he became emotional remembering little Mini. “Come on she is getting married to him. Till now you were the only man in her life now there is Neil. She is dreaming about her beautiful future with him. Its natural for her to feel that attraction towards him. But she will always be your little doll.”Explained Babita as she caressed his head.

“Hii, you called so late in the night.Everything ok?” asked Mini over the phone. “Why I cant call my would be wife late night?” asked Neil as he imagined Mini’s expression. Right now her cheeks would have become beautiful color of pink because of blushing. She is either embarrassed or blushing whenever he made an obvious remark about their relation and he liked teasing her a lot. “Its not like that. You can call me anytime.But you never do so I thought….” Mini left the sentence in between. “So what if I never call you late night. You could have also called me if you wanted to”said Neil. “I wanted to….but…I didn’t know if I could…to tell you the truth…I don’t know how you will take all these new gestures from my side…I mean I don’t want to upset you or make you think that I am like every other silly, clingy girl.”Said Mini as she bit her lower lip in nervousness. Neil was silent for sometime. Mini thought he had cut the call. “Hello….are you there?” she asked.“Yes…yes …I am listening. Actually I was thinking how to remove your hesitation. We are going to get married in few days and if you still keep comparing yourself with other girls then how this is gonna work?” replied Neil.“What do mean?” asked Mini confused. “Mini you are an over thinker. The day I said yes to you, I entered in a commitment with you. A commitment in which I never entered with anyone. So you are special for me. You have right over me more than anyone else now. So don’t treat yourself any less. See I am not good in these kind of communication so you have to take initiative here. Aur jyada se jyada kya hoga…agar main busy hoon ya agar mujhe disturb hoga toh main khud hi tumse clearly mana kar dunga na….but you have to take chance.” Explained Neil. He continued further when Mini remain silent, “Ok …..do one thing. Look at your engagement ring.” Mini looked at her hand, on which the expensive solitaire ring was shining brightly.“That ring is the proof that Ms. Mini Singh soon to be Mrs. Mini Neil Oberoi has every right a wife has over her husband. So don’t hold yourself back …whenever you have any doubt then look at the ring again…..Ok?” asked Neil. “Ok” replied Mini as she blushed again.

“Hmm..thats good now I should come to the point. The reason I called you is that I wanted to know your preference. Where would you like to go for honeymoon?” asked Neil as he was looking at the brochures of various destinations. “What? Honeymoon?” asked Mini.“Yes…honeymoon…. where married couple spend some time alone” Neil elaborated.“Oh, I know what does that mean. I am not dumb.” Replied Mini irritated. “Then tell me quickly because I have to make arrangements.” Said Neil rolling his eyes. “I never gave it a thought. What are the options?” asked Mini suddenly feeling excited at the thought of going for a vacation without her parents for the first time. They never ever allowed her to go even on school trips forget about the vacations with friends because of their fears of ‘ladki ko itni durr kaise bheje…kahi kuch ho gaya toh?’ “Now I will get the chance to go to the place of my choice like a free bird and they cant even stop me now. This marriage idea is not at all bad” thought Mini. “I have short listed few destinations. We can go Australia or new Zealand. Then we have the option of Maldives or Bora Bora if you like beaches. We can also opt for Greece as I have never been there.” Neil gave the options. Mini was under happy shock now. She couldn’t even think straight for few seconds. He took all foreign country names. She has never gone ahead Delhi in her whole life and he is talking about Greece. “Oh Lord! Oh great Lord! Thank you for giving me f**ked up kundli” Mini sent a silent prayer to God. She couldn’t believe she will go to abroad for the first time. Her passport which was only an identification document for her will be utilized for the first time. She was lost in her thoughts when Neil asked again, “Are you again talking to yourself?” asked Neil irritated from her habit. “Come on choose one destination fast.” He said. “Beaches….I love beaches…I have never been there but I would love to go.” Said Mini excitedly. “Ok….so Maldives or Bora Bora?” Neil asked. “Maldives” replied Mini. “Ok then Maldives it is. I will ask my secretary to make the necessary arrangements tomorrow. Send me your passport for the completion of formalities. “Ok” said Mini smiling ear to ear. Now she was more excited for the honeymoon rather than marriage. “Ok bye..goodnight” said Neil as he cut the call. “Good night….how can I sleep now. I will dream of Maldives.” Mini thought.

“Mom…Dad….” Shouted Mini as she came running back into the living room. “Kya hua why are you shouting?” asked Babita. “Neil ka phone tha…guess usne kya bola?” asked Mini in a sing song like voice. “Babita laughed at her childishness and asked, “I cant guess…tumhi batado kya bola tumhare Neil ne?” Mini was so excited that she didn’t even register the word “tumhara Neil” which her mother said to tease her. “He said that after marriage we are going to Maldives for honeymoon.” Replied Mini dancing around her parents. “Dad he asked me to send my passport to complete necessary formalities so please arrange it.” Mini said to Hanuman and went to her room to google “places to visit in Maldives”. While Babita and Hanuman shared a worried look. “Suniye ji ye kya bol rahi thi…Maldive….kaha hai ye….bahut durr hai kya?”asked Babita. “Videsh hai ji…hamare desh se bahut durr” replied Hanuman in same worried tone. “What? Foreign country? Itni durr jaane ki kya jarurat hai….yahi kahi aaspas….shimla- manali chale jaate….suniye na…aap baat kijiye na Neil se….hamari Mini toh kabhi nahi gayi itni durr.” Babita replied as her heart was filled with anxiety for her daughter. “Now you got to know what I was feeling few minutes ago? Mujhe to bada samjha rahi thi betiyan paraya dhan hoti hain ab khud ko kya hua?” asked Hanuman in sarcasm. “What do you mean?” asked Babita confused. “What I mean is our little doll is getting married. No matter how much we hate it but the reality is that after the marriage we wont have the right to take her life’s decisions. And honeymoon is a private topic between husband and wife. Who are we to interfere?” explained Hanuman. “But still….we didn’t ever let her go far away from our reach” said Babita as she felt her eyes getting wet. “We have placed our trust in Neil right? Mini will be his responsibility after marriage. So we have to hold on to that trust. Aur tumne hi toh mujhe samjhaya tha betiyon ko apne maa baap ka ghar chhodke ek din apne pati ke ghar jaana hi padta hai.” Replied Hanuman as he wiped the tears from his wife’s eyes and she did the same with him. Both husband wife hugged and supported each other in the emotional moment. They were happy for their daughter’s marriage but cried silently as she was going away from them.
