no offense taken...😃 not by me at least...most members know my age n have been called a aunty which I am😉😆😆

Possibly I don't see it all so much since I am not around on the forum very often and neither have I ever been a part of a CC or AT. I agree, it does boil down to how much spare time + energy you have...oh well, as long as people don't spend too much time clawing at other fans and arguing over their favorites, its fine, whatever floats peoples boats :)

On the contrary, I find it quite disturbing that those in their teens & 20s who should be busy with studies &/or social lives spend countless hours on these forums. As a mother, I would find it extremely odd if my child spent valuable hours discussing inane love stories instead of indulging in healthy extra-curricular activities & socializing with "real" people. Housewives on the other hand have historically been a soap opera's target audience. The new generation of housewives are just keeping abreast of change & incorporating on-line activity with their regular TV watching.

As for fans reactions sometimes being extreme, I do agree with you, they do need to rein it in & know where to draw the line.

@bold: I do agree. But with technology, namely, Iphones, Ipods, Ithis, Ithat...it is ridiculously easy to sit on Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook or other online forums all day for the youth and keep obsessing over shows, actors, characters, blah blah blah. Specially the teens seem to get carried away with their obsessions. Its scary now, when I was a teenager, just a few years ago, I spent my maximum time swimming or reading books or going out with friends, the current lot of teens really don't seem to do much apart from lobbying for actors and couples and their favorite shows. I don't think there is anything wrong in appreciating something you like or love but when it becomes a constant obsession, it is surely an issue to be worried about. Life is about striking a balance I reckon, but some fans totally lose the plot, not in this forum, but one of the other shows mentioned in the article has a very scary fan base, they literally called up people associated with the show and abused them...now THAT is FREAKY!

By the way, nice to see on the forum after so long Fariyal :)

Totally respect your POV but don't necessarily agree with it.

And instigating others is what people seem to enjoy doing on these online forums. I unfortunately ventured into another forum of a show I fleetingly liked and all the posts were like a warzone, everyone was fighting for their favourite actor as if their life depended on it..😆... I don't mind that people have a favorite actor or they simply love a certain character but the problem arises when people feel the need to put down ANOTHER actor or character, just to make their favorite look like it is a gift sent from God to mankind.

Likewise DeepShadow :)

I guess it finally boils down to the lack of understanding in a majority of members. These forums are more fan-doms than real forums per se. If you like/adore an actor/actress it's all good, but heaven forbid if you have a real critique or don't happen to share the same fervor for their favorite, all hell breaks loose & the forum is on it's way to becoming FREAKY😆

Oh well, like you said, to each his own...

@red: Riya, on reading above lines I've laughed louder than I actually thought I could... 🤣
I guess, now Mr. Tim Cook has his task cut out for establishing Apple as real "i-tem" in gadget arena!! 🤣

@blue: You & Fariyal have raised some valid points regarding the obsessiveness of teenagers (or even adults to some extent) to gadgets & online services (be it Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Tumbler or forums), but in my opinion technology alone shouldn't be blamed.

Innovations have always been made to make life simpler & its the choice of an individual to use it wisely or imbecility!! 😛

No one is blaming technology as such Shobhit, but it has unfortunately become a medium for propagating blind fan worship and people seem to have no qualms about using this medium to abuse and fight with other people, over television characters (that do not exist) and for actors/actresses (who probably do not know of the particular fan's existence). But yes, it is indeed upto an individual as to how they choose to use or behave on an online platform.

@Shobhit - I agree with you. Often with kids these days it's not they are obsessive with technology, parents too need to be willing to be parents for real and not go for a short cut.

Someone very dear to me has 2 kids, 9 years old and 5 years old. Their father bought both of them an iPad so kids don't get bored 😲 😲 😲, not to mention they start out their days with playing games on cell phone and sleep after finishing last game.

Same parent later called me to ask for my help in terms of psychological sense as one kid is not behaving well at home. Only I know how I had to answer that while in reality I wanted to say how about be a real parent for a change 😡

Forget it, it's for different time

Oh absolutely, Shobhit, I wouldn't want to go back to pre- iPad/iPhone/kindle days😆 Though, warning bells should be sounded in every home when this technology starts becoming a crutch for real issues ranging from low self-esteem to loneliness. I personally would be very concerned if I found my kid writing thesis after thesis on Kekta's crappy stories, rather than competing in sport or living it up with friends.

I guess we've meandered from the topic in Q as it happens ever so often😆 best leave it here😉
