And these were just my views. No offence. But I also completely disagree with you (i.e. original poster whose words are in black not red)...

I completely agree with samir sir...there's nothing wrong in exploring the concept of homosexuality in Indian movies as long as its done in good taste without vulgarity and degrading homosexual people...Samir himself has portrayed the character of rahul arora very well and i don't think he is categorized as a gay icon/actor in fact he received lot of appreciation and won many accolades.

Homosexuality has been prevalent in India right throughout the history. Sexual orientation is completely one's personal choice and we should respect them rather than treat them as criminals. They are not causing any harm to the society and are just people who wants to live life on their own terms. Homosexual marriages are legal in many western countries and if i am not wrong the High court of Delhi in 2009 has passed a law decriminalizing homosexual intercourse between consenting adults and this law is applicable through out India. So when the government of India has no problems with it i don't think we the citizens should have any objections.

No offense to anyone - but the very subject of homosexuality is one which is looked upon with disgust in our conservative society & the only option for producers would be to make it out to be a e joke because certainly anything serious on the subject would cause a riot ---

How many actors in bollywood would be comfortable to work with a known gay or openly stand with a Gay person without being tagged as gay themselves??

Sincerely hope the film industry does not endorse a lifestyle which could negatively impact the younger generations --

The very thought that SS suggested a movie like that would be profitable is 🤢

problem here is not a movie on the subject, the main problem is Samir Soni said it and am sure every member can see it.

Gay/lesbian are not Taboo in India any more or talking about them, stop giving the wrong impression. One can agree or disagree with the topic but Taboo it is not. There have been debates on National Television, Headlines in all the leading newspaper with pictures of Gay Pride Parade that takes place every year, all over India. It has been debated in Parliament and the High court has decriminalized Homosexuality in 2009 itself.

Some debate with top media and eminent people is below. Search youtube for videos on gay rights in India and the Gay Pride Parade, see the numbers you come up with. Big boss has had gay contestants like Bobby Darling, Begum, Imam etc and Salman Khan interacted with them, other contestants lived with them. Do not see Salman and them being called Gay.

What should stop in movies is the vulgar/cheap songs and movements done by the item girls as that encourages the male (majority ones) to pass or sing those songs to girls walking on the streets and at times do heinous crimes too. That is🤢 and not a movie on Gay/lesbians as they have a right to live too.

The Delhi High Court on Thursday ruled that homosexuality is no more a crime. The verdict brought happiness and cheers to the Indian gay activists. Gay activist Arvind Narayan spoke to NDTV about the verdict.

I agree with Samir that it would be great to see movies that deal with sensitive issues that homosexuality in a dignified manner. Moreover whatever happened to creative freedom , experimentation , innovation and the likes?😕😉
I agree that there are many in this society who ridicule and perhaps ostracize homosexuals and I sincerely hope films , TV shows( based on the same) may help them remember their humane side , equality , respect for an individual.😃
Likening homosexuality to premeditated murder is downright lame(I am sorry if I sound rude but honestly i my POV nothing describes it better) !!! 😕🤢Perhaps its time to revise one's understanding on crime!😕🤢
As for the bright shining future of our coming generation , I like to believe that they will be free of prejudices and bigotry some of their priors burdened the world with!😉😃

Samir was not the first one to do a gay character, there have been so many others but most of the time it was caricatured. the term 'pinku' for gay came from a role Anupam Kher did in a movie.

Fire was a movie with Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das on homosexual relations as long back as 1998.

My Brother Nikil was made in 2005.

Dostana n Kal ho na ho were not such films but for comic relief it was added.

so what is wrong with more movies made on this topic in a serious way.😕

Everyone has right to live their life as they choose, after all its their life. If making movies on homosexuality is to be curbed coz they belong to minor community, then all those movies which are made on other minor communities should get the same treatment? Indian law has a long list of groups which are termed as minor & the movies on them have got world wide recognition. Should be ban those movies coz they aren't a part of our culture & are taboo? 😕 😕

why hide behind someone's phobia in the name of culture & get termed as regressive? 😕 Aren't we striving for a progressive society? Independent working woman wasn't a part of our culture, haven't we broken that culture? Am sure if movies & Telly shows show a creative interesting take on homosexuality, it would open a lot of minds & they will be accepted for what they are. 😊

His comment is a long one , since its from rival site, cant post entire comment here , otherwise mods will warn me 😆 here is one part of it '' As homosexuals are a minority community in a heterosexual world, producers may shy away from making movies on homosexuality thinking it's not profitable. India needs to come up with films like that of Brokeback Mountain which dealt with homosexuality so tastefully''

Nobody knows what causes homosexuality any more than they know what causes heterosexuality. According to Freud, gender & sexuality are learned forms of social practice.
Thus going by Freud's findings, it is the same society that gives rise to homosexuals & homophobes alike.

The same article on the rival site quotes Plato - "Homosexuality, is regarded as shameful by barbarians and by those who live under despotic governments"... If a famous guy in the 4th century BC said this, what does it say about the homophobes of the 21st century?
The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read & write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn & relearn. - said Alvin Toffler in Future shock

Lastly, reading through the comments on the thread (& keeping in mind some earlier posts too) leads me to deduce that the "anti-gay" remarks aren't so much anti-gay as much as they are anti-actor-in-question😉 which really isn't so much a crime at all😆
Amused to see that Samir always evokes a response...whether good or bad😆

Sameer sir always manages to get strong reaction out. Be it he comments about a show, industry or any social issues.

Agree that concepts such as homosexuality should be explored in Bollywood movies. What is so wrong in that? They are part of our society and minority just like any other group deserves fair treatment. Or saying largest democracy is just on papers?😕

US military for years had rule of "don't ask don't tell". After so many debates and whatnot, they finally lifted it. I have personally worked with professor who is Gay. I didn't even know about it and even after I know so what? That doesn't change a damn thing.

If anything should be censored is cheap item songs, dance moves or dialogues by so call "heroes" that can provoke young generation. Same goes with few reality shows on tv, but they are fine. After all it is a democracy 👏

Young generation😆 less said better it is😉

I change channel right away when such item songs come and often get into fights with my friends. When Helen did it in 70's & 80's, people watched it for actual "dance". Now days🤢 But then all "heroes" and "heroines" use tier skills😉 to lure all and they are successful.

@red - 😉😛😆
