New kind of colonization with standardizing everything.
Valentines, Halloween … give couple of years & thanksgiving is coming next. After 5 years: Columbus/ Indigenous peoples day!
All!
In UAE, we grew up celebrating pretty much everything. Diwali, Holi, Easter, Christmas, Eid. The population diversity is such.
Halloween began because of the American school there, and then the British schools picked it up too. Then, a lot of nurseries picked it up as a part of world culture education. And then it became popular so that kids in school could dress up.
So pretty much all festivals are celebrated, and none are tampered with. Eid decor always has chaand, Diwali always has diyas and Christmas with Santa Claus. You have to be respectful of the festival if you choose to celebrate it, and the police also keep a close eye on any inappropriate behaviour. So we learnt to celebrate pretty much all of them the right way.
