Another very interesting thing about this offence of lord references comes from the long debate of art and how much freedom it must be given

how much should be restricted and if it should be restricted at all

and although its pandya store and maybe badly done it would still come under the defination of art (bad art is still art kind of a thing)

I'd love to know your thoughts on this general topic as well and how you may relate it to the art you consume including PS.

So many questions and answers and feel free to ignore them, by im just a curious bean what can i say 😆

I have been so interested in this trying to read one religious text after another, shiva puraan being my next goal to conquer. I have been interested in retellings, references of "mytho" especially indian mytho in recent media and art, its interpretation and effect on people who consume both the stories of the great lords and their retellings or references

I have asked so many questions about god and their actions, to others and to myself

Two of the questions have stuck with me for a long time

First, is how morally acceptable are the gods to begin with, were they completely correct all the time

like a certain god we all know and worship and his treatment of his wife and the agnee pariksha she had to go through to prove herself to be "pure" when even if she was "impure" to begin with it would be her fault in the first place.

I once took this question to a soul way wiser than i was and the answer i recieved gave me a whole new perspective of this said god

this person said "this god was in his human form, hence making him vulnerable to all these human emotions, flaws and most importantly societal rules. does that mean that the stance was a correct one? as a feminist i could never say yes, but did it make me more understanding or accepting of this said god? ofcourse.

Similarly i am just getting myself familiarized with lord shiva and his stories, but correct me if I am wrong wasnt there a story about mohini and lord shiva having a child and goddess parvati witnessing this all. A version of this story even talked about how lord shiva requested that the next form parvati took would resemble mohini. Lord aiyappa (the supposed love child of shiva and mohini) is worshipped in many places of this country.

So should i if Shiva Pandya ever cheated on Raavi in the future condemn him or compare him to lord shiva?

The second question that, i always take with me is "how does the world view or interpretation of good effect my relationship with them"

I truly believe a person and their relationship to their god and their faith is one of the most scared thing to exist and so very private. Then does this relationship be affected by others?

Should how feel about lord shiva be affected by if a ITV character is compared to it or not? Does law get to have a say in my personal relationship with god? do i get to have a say in people and their relationship or their interpretation of god? Is their interpretation and relationship of god, hate towards my relationship and interpretation of god?

I am human trying to grow learn and understand myself and the world i live in, so hence these are questions I live to find answers to. And I may or may not find them, but thought this was a wonderful open space to pen these thoughts.

I hope I didnt offend you guys and I hope I can here you kind thoughts or answers I am trying to seek.

So much love and thanks for bearing with me 🤗

Good to read this & good to see your interest in learning.

Only in general concern most trying to convey is: just like lollipop scenes— writers want to pick- choose- hint & then go complete haywire in references!
Fans pick hints and equate to at times rather inappropriate justifications!

Shiva is not modeled around Shivji. He is modeled around Bhabhi Ka bachcha & that’s why this ‘tandav/ anger/ reaction to ‘mohini’ all comes across unjust!! Not needed.
let him be as is! Bhabhi’s follower.

Just like how we don’t quote/ justify /Equate with other religious figures: even though Sanatan dharma allows wide accommodating flexibility & acceptance- certain respect, decorum shall be maintained.

For example recent movie made showing Maa Kaali in very inappropriate way or PK where they mocked ShivJi & other Gods …

Wonder why these tv show/ film makers are not taking this liberty with other than Hindu Gods & stories! They should! If it is all about interpretation only!

Now coming to Our Hindu religious stories, I have always enjoyed good Ramleela, krishnaleela, Krishna’s stories, Shivji’s stories.
When done with faith, devoid of malicious intentions, it makes viewer, reader, consumer of art of religious stories happy!

When clubbed with hidden narratives, demeaning traits, poking ridicule - it does make one upset! Swabhawik hai.

If we talk just about apna Shiva: his many acts make him enough not be constantly equated with Shivji. Not all the time. For tiniest of scenes.

An extremely beautiful quote i would like to end my rambling on is a quote from a series i recently watched

Priest: And you’re good for me, you make me question my faith.

Person A to the preist :And?

Priest: I’ve never felt closer to God!

I love this quote so much ❤️

Oh PS has inconsistent writing on doubt about that (your reference to bhabhi bhakti etc)

about taking liberty in something other than hindu stories, they should I would love to have more stories and their interpretation, but I do believe our culture is sooo rich in stories and beaytiful gods and godesses I naturally becomes and inspiration for people like us who grow up listening to these stories more than any other, and they are so well known that people would know these references even if they are not well versed in literature, I mean would people watch or related to anupamaa or kavya if she was compared to medusa? maybe only a certain privileged population would.

But there have been so many stories about other things like lucifer the series (where they called GOD a bad father and we were made to empathize with the devil), or percy jackson based on greek myths too, and so many more that I may not be aware of (writers just choose what they are familiar with or interested in i guess)

None in Indian context - itv- bollywood anywhere. None.

They don’t dare. They know the outcome.

Imagine hinting Gautam as ‘bad father’ or Dhara as something else….
just for the hack if justifying bravado of taking liberties w/ sanatan stories- try making next show with other religious metaphor!!!
Will any PH / writers / movie makers try this? Ever!?

For me the social media track ended after Raavi succeeded in her ner venture and Shiva while heartedly supported her..also Suman was shown supporting Raavi..such a pleasant and progressive move has been hampered by the return of bhabhi from her Singapore vacay! The scenes followed after that seemed forced! However manifesting ShiVi to learn from their mistakes and grow as individuals and as a unit 💗 They are flawed and they will accept their mistakes once they realise and proceed forward unlike others who play victim cards!

Mythology is Nasty term normalized by Bollywood & itv.

Why not use word Religious stories? Cultural stories? (Neha Sargam , who plays Yashomati said this & I completely agree)

Like how all other religions granths , stories are termed as!

We give up easy! Submit easy ‘jaane do, fiction hai, unka interpretation hai…. ‘And in turn just letting go of identity starts

Many Hindu, Buddhist, jain organizations in US are recently fighting seemingly small but significant battle of claiming back out sacred symbols, decriminalizing it from US penal codes: Swastik!
Many of us don’t use swastik in Diwali at our doorsteps, some avoid using even in Puja. Because it is widely recognized & termed as hate symbol. Even when perpetrators of it used word HakenKruz. They NEVER used Swastik.
how it translated to swastika & became hate symbol is something we all should learn.

Try this on Google:

German to English translation:

Type Haken - comes crooked

Type Kreuz - comes cross

Type HakenKreuz & English translation is Swastik. (!!!!??)

Good amount of organizations are working on this small thing, with good cultural significance. If anyone is interested:
Look up recently released: the silence of Swastika.
https://youtu.be/HspDwwVv1Fk

Chhoti chhoti baatein hain, but our ‘jaane do’ doesn’t work always!!

thank you for bringing this up - growing up we were taught the importance of the swastika & om symbol but on Diwali we would only draw the om symbol on the wall beside our doorstep & not the swastika

when I asked my dad about it, he had explained that some people would take it in the wrong way

I didn’t understand what he meant until the world wars unit in my history class

suffice to say, as a Hindu born & brought up in the US, I was upset when I learnt of it

would you mind giving me an example of other religious metaphors? coz i cant think of any as famous or well know as hinduism atleast in india

I mean again I am just as open and interested in all of them.

also I do think PS makers started with an Idea which was interesting enough (truly A for that initial effort) and then it fell apart for number of reasons, including the daily episode format that makes it difficult to maintain consistancy, the creative conflicts and hogging of the storyline by certain.... you know

IB was another show that started with the context of the ramayan retelling of sorts and then the story went haywire and later it was too late but they did end up bringing it in (ITV needs consistancy in their story but things interfer with it, audience's reactions, race for trp, creativity)

I often wonder if it wasnt itv and just a shiva raavi story would the writers have wrote it in a better way

Also about the gautam dhara thing, I have noticed this consistent narrative they have in place, where elders even if wrong are never called out, like rishita is always called out in context to her behavior with dhara but never to raavi (it's honestly a very weird but realistic narrative of "elders must be respected") relatable too

Just like the narrative of gods can never be wrong or flawed, elders cant be, elders are as good as god for you. So many weirdly relatable narratives.
