Anupamaa actor Adrija Roy on shooting during Diwali

As the festive season approaches, actress Adrija Roy shared her thoughts on balancing work and celebrations during Diwali. With a busy shooting schedule, she is unsure whether she will have the day off. “I honestly have no idea yet if I’ll be shooting on Diwali or not. If I do have a shoot, then I’ll definitely make some plans for the evening once I’m done. But if I get the day off, I would love to celebrate the entire night with my friends and family — that’s what Diwali is all about for me,” she said.

Celebrating on Set

Adrija revealed that even when working during festival days, the team tries to maintain a festive atmosphere. “During festivals, even when we’re shooting, we make it a point to celebrate on set — the vibe is always festive! Many actors take time off during festivals, just like I did during Durga Pujo since I celebrate it in Kolkata. It would be great if we get an off on Diwali too (haha), but even if we don’t, the team spirit makes it feel special anyway,” she explained.

The actress highlighted that shooting during festivals can be challenging due to tight schedules. “Usually, we don’t always get an off right after Diwali because sometimes we don’t have enough episodes banked, so we have to continue shooting. There are times when we’ve had to shoot even during festivals because of tight schedules, and I genuinely feel that artists also need to understand that they have to give their bit — it becomes quite pressurising for the production team otherwise.”

Managing Festive Challenges

Diwali shoots bring specific challenges, such as managing evening schedules with the noise of fireworks. Adrija said, “The evening shoots around Diwali can be tough with the noise of crackers, but we all try to cooperate. A slightly late call time definitely helps — it’s a win-win for everyone!” She emphasized that understanding and teamwork make shooting during festivals manageable for the entire crew.

Plans Depend on Work

Adrija’s personal Diwali plans will depend entirely on her shooting schedule. “I do have a few Diwali party invites, and I’d love to attend if I manage to get a day off. But with the pressure of shoot schedules, it’s really difficult to plan anything in advance — it all depends on how the week unfolds,” she said.

Despite uncertainties, she remains positive about celebrating the festival, whether on set or at home with family and friends. The actress’s experience reflects how festival celebrations on television sets often combine work, teamwork, and traditional festivities.
